  • Lets just get married tomorrow and I can help you get some cool ideas after that. I don't have any but I would do my best for you. Tee hee

You have a great imagination and sense of humor, I think everything you make would be worth posting on here and all your subscribers & other people would enjoy them just as much as the ones you've posted. I understand if you're meticulous and a perfectionist, I just think you're really talented and you should take it easy on yourself.

  • You're still my favorite. You were the ... 2nd or 3rd... I bookmarked (then sub'd to when it "mattered" ie partnership stuff), after Cory&Charles... and I watched every blogTV that wasn't during a work shift, etc. and miss having live interaction--now the vlogs for Charles/Shay have totally made interaction pretty impossible, which sucks. They are funny responding to us, but then, I'm glad they're doing well, too, even if not in radio or TV tryouts. I want you to make a series POPS style.

  • @122172639 POPS?

  • @garblemuffin Platoon of Power Squadron--with wheezywaiter... the director (and page) is pineappleboyfilms, and while it's a CRAZY load of work for one man (OBBBBviously a lesser man than you) to script/edit/etc you have superb talent that are far more loyal than Bea-cast member to be. He does the episodes in segments. Parts=more views=more moolah & not especially annoying. It's light comedy, superpowery. We'd all (save Denton Starbucklers)rather you get 30k for filming than 30k for barista-ing!

  • I don't like that YouTube is turning into.... television. =\ The fact that YouTube was different than TV in the sense that it showcased the average Joe Blow's creative abilities (and not some fancy, smancy hollywood theatrics) was cool to me. In your case, its different because on your channel we have watched you transform from "just a guy with a camera" to this incredibly talented film maker who creates some of the most beautiful cinematic art I've ever seen. ;) THIS is what it should be about.

  • I'm so tired of "everyone" deciding to do daily vlogs. Enough already! I mean, you're great. I've enjoyed your videos ever since I followed a ShayCarl video here, but I don't think I could watch even you just talk just every single day.

It just sucks that the main channels (Shaycarl, Charles Trippy, and probably others I don't even watch) have become feeble little secondary channels that are lucky to get a monthly upload, because the 2nd "vlog" channel has taken over.

  • @CardinalSin74 (Needed to append this) The fact that your vlogs don't reach 15-20 minutes does help a lot.

Didn't want you to get the wrong idea, since you do occasionally have this "limited run" daily thing for a month.

  • you're still my favorite blogger and you have been since...well, pretty much since i made my account. you actually vlog. instead of talking about stupid celebrities no one cares about.

  • Brent, you and your channels will still always be my favorites. I first heard about you when Phil mentioned you in a video from waaay back, back when you used "Fade Out" at the end of your videos. Now, I have unsubscribed from Phil and his channels for a number of reasons. You will find your "thing" soon, but I think what you have going for you right now that we all love is that you seem a lot more "real" than the "Youtube Giants." You haven't sold yourself out. You're a gem, Brent! Keep it up.

  • I think youtube is running itself the way it needs to run itself to stay afloat. Which in someways is good for some and bad for others. I think it's almost impossible for people to break into the pack, even with consistent content. I think it's turning into a popularity game where for someone as small as me to even break a small amount of subs, they need a big channel to promote them. I wish I had the time to make a video response to respond to your comments and express my feelings about youtube

  • You did make a point.

    Do what makes you happy.

    I believe in you.

  • Play that fucking game. Blow all the others out of the fucking water.

  • its really interesting what you bring up in this vid. a lot of these major moguls nowadays on youtube don't ever encourage people to question the progression of this site because they don't want people to question how they pay the bills. to me, the change happened when people stopped making content for fun, and started making vids to get rich. its hard to know how to feel about it, but sometimes it sickens me how some only care about money and not making legit content.

  • I think you should only play the game if you really want to play it. If your heart isn't in it and you don't like what you're putting out and you're playing just for the sake of playing we'll be able to tell, and i think that's when things go downhill. Find your 'thing' first. You're obviously onto something by getting the next up thing. So find whatever it is then maybe start playing that game :)

  • the world could love the art

    but if the artist doesn't

    it doesn't exist

  • i thought techno zombie was up there with some of your best videos...

  • I think you should play the game. I get how many feel like if they play it like the "big guys" then they're selling out and blah blah blah... It's a job like any else you do what you need to do to make it work as a living, and yes ofcourse we want to see more content and on a more regular basis and if playing the game helps content creators do that, then that is good! I don't mind thumbing up or favouriting if it means we get more content... So basically, play the game :)

  • I think it's gone from single users towards groups of channel content creators that I'd liken to studios. Even PhillyD doesn't truly make his own videos anymore. He's got an assistant making one type of his videos, and another makes another kind. It's like he's lost his autonomy. The Station and maker studios was definitely part of that step to get to this point though.

  • Go Mavs AND Go Heat!

  • You did make a good point! I missed you and your awesome facial hair. In my opinion, you should go back to doing those amazing blogtv shows. They made my life! NONETHELESS, I think what you do is awesome and when you do put up skits, or vlogs, they are always some of the best videos I watch on youtube. I thank you for that! <3

  • Don't do it. Don't play the game.

  • Comment removed

  • Just keep at it man, everything you've done has just gotten better and better. You have already found your "thing" and it rocks!

  • i still <3 you my texas homie. ... remember that night we made you eat mashed potato mix.

  • You play to win the game, you don't play to just play.

  • From your first video on ItsBrent onwards, your short films have got increasingly better in quality in terms of the story, how it's shot, the look, the sound, just everything. You've improved a lot as a filmmaker so being careful about what you post is to be expected. Your obvious passion for film is what makes you different from other youtubers and that's why we subscribe to you. And I enjoy the vids with you & your friends too - it's good to see who's behind the project. :)

  • I like that you don't have a set upload schedule. Randomly seeing a video from you is kind of like having a special little surprise in my subscriptions because it is so unexpected. :)

  • A couple of things.

    1. You're cute stop being so vain. do you.

    2. Since Youtube was born, like any other fast evolving social entertainment device, it needs to go through stages of development that include: conception, contagion, and whatever the medium it goes through, it has to appeal to people's senses of intellectual desire or capability. Whatever comes out of youtube will be great, and you'll be in it I just know it. I'm excited too!

  • Screw the game! I don't want to 'Like and favourite to win a t-shirt'!

Find your rhythm, make content more often... Just don't let us forget you.

  • everything on youtube these days are pretty much movie/tv quality content and makes it hard for the underdogs to get anywhere these days

  • I totally agree with you. I don't have the tools to make super quality videos and I have a lot of video ideas that are varied, so I don't have a super dedicated audience. It makes it tough to compete against ego driven people... playing the game, haha. But you're devoted to making good videos! Take pride in that. =]

  • Yeah I stopped using youtube about 1.5 years ago when 100 000 subscribers was the best and now that im back all the people i used to watch besides smosh and sxephil have just been forgotten about because youtube doesnt focus on the little people anymore

  • I spit on your grave hat? Christ... I watched that last night. I fell asleep during one of the rape scenes and woke up in the middle of another. I was way too confused. Also yes, YouTube has changed a lot in the passed few years.

  • I can honestly say i am subbed to both "kinds" of youtubes if that makes sense. I love sXePhil, Shay and Charles but then i am also subbed to both your channels and andrew bravener and 'vloggers' and make up gurus and everything.

I think youtube is much harder for people to 'crack into' nowadays.. i for one am trying to get into youtube on the creation side.. i have been a viewer for like 6 years but now i want to make videos, but all i have is a handycam and i dont think that cuts it anymore?

  • ok so THIS VIDEO is why i stayed subbed to you on both garblemuffin and ItsBrent all this time . you recognized what a lot of us who have watched the youtube culture change drastically have began to see. i don't know if you should play "the game", Brent. i don't think its worth it. i seriously love all your vids/vlogs and those should seriously speak for themselves <3

  • so effin cute!!

  • oh and why cant you be my neighbour walking around in your garden talking to your cellphone :D

  • i miss the good old its brent times but no worries were cool! <3 i still love you!

  • you totally sound like me in regards to art school.

  • im just glad i get to see your cute face

  • We love you Brent, no matter how often you post or what you do :D

  • You seem to be a natural in front of the camera and behind the camera. I have always enjoyed watching ItsBrent and your vlogs. You seem very at ease and I think you are entertaining. If you want to try and make money at Youtube then play the game. If you just want to relax and have fun then it is your channel. That is the great thing about youtube. You can do whatever you want on your channel. Experiment and play around. Maybe then you will find your thing.

  • of my all time top 10 youtube videos, you've created probably 3 or 4 of them. your high standards are what has kept you around this long. keep it up... people will keep watching.

  • Get your paper and make it rain. Word to the mother, get down and funky and stuff.

  • Go Mavs!!!

  • play the game bitch. take youtube seriously

  • UGH! Brent, I love you! I've been watching for a while now and I've noticed that you haven't been uploading many videos lately. Honestly, do whatever you want. You're going to get great feedback no matter what because you're freaking awesome as hell. :)

  • brent, lemme just be honest and say, that out of my many subscriptions, you're one of the few channels that always manages to get me excited whenever you put a new video up. most channels have their initial spark, but then i almost ignore whenever a new video comes up and it's only a matter of time until i unsubscribe. but with your channel, for the past 2 years i've been subscribed, i just love the videos you put up! you're like my favorite youtuber :D

  • Brent just keep making stuff, u know what i dont see? an honest film maker like you making short films. so make some! ill watch!

  • Omg, so refreshing to hear this from you. I've been feeling this for a while now. YouTube has gotten so formulaic. Videos from Shay and Charles, for example, are hardly as enjoyable now because I think it's hardly as enjoyable and experimental for them, too. It's not the same vibe, and I think that can be extrapolated and applied to the rest of YouTube. It's not the adorable virgin anymore. It's a high maintenance slut.

  • Play play play! :D (the game)

C'maan Brent, don't be so self conscious you have a strong fan base who just wants YOU.

Grab your nuts and run with it man

  • oh no brent! i just lost THE GAME.

  • Hey Brent just wanted to thank you for being real and sharing your life with us, I was indecisive for years on career plans and ended up applying for film school because of your vlogs last year. I just got accepted and I'm so excited! Keep doing whatever it is YOU want to do, because you are the inspiration!

  • Your fans definitely love you and your videos, Brent.. I've been watchin you for a few years now and have loved all of your videos, both vlogs and sketches. People will continue to watch your videos if you decide not to play the youtube game. You're fans will help spead the word of your videos and I'm sure the big youtubers that you're friends with will give your videos deserving shout-outs. Ultimately, you should do what you love regardless of what you think the viewers opinions will be.

  • If you play the game AT ALL. Do it for your films. BBTV is pumping out films i have seen some of your stuff and it's great. Fuck anyone else and just remember WHY you did it in the first place. We make videos becuase we love it.

  • Brent. Letme be real witchu! I've watched your videos for a long time. It made me sad to see that you were posting things less and less over time. You have a lot of really great things going. You're good at what you do and you have the character to go along with it. Your personality sells your material. I've always loved your comedic horror/thriller style. I love that about what you create, and noone really does horror comedy. You have an amazing opportunity to showcase yourself here. Go for it!

  • @garblemuffin part of me wants to say play the game because youtube misses you. i've watched your videos religiously for several years (however few and far between they may be) BUT another part of me says fuck youtube. you DID NOT go to film school for 4 and a half years to become a youtube star. go out there and do something big. youtube stardom doesnt mean shit to the great filmakers out there. when you make it big, you can laugh at people like sxephil and nigahiga and shanedawson.

  • @paganprincess07 i totally agree, Im torn too!

  • I am really glad that you made this video. It really helped me get to know you and your head better. I've always enjoyed watching your videos and think you have a great personality to make it big.

  • You went to film school for 4 and a half years... and you're talking to an iPhone... Wow. Get out there and make a fucking movie, get out of this hellhole while you still can!!

  • Panda + Bear = WILL MURDER YOU is the best video you've ever made. i have watched it literally 100 times or so and i still die laughing.

  • i love you :]

  • Brent, you are a true youtuber and probably knows more about the game than the people that actually go to those youtube meetings/events. You are well known and respected within the community, so you got this!

  • the way youtube has changed is bitter sweet. its good because its evolving and its getting more attention because of that but then it sux because i miss the days where it was just someone sitting infront of a camera then THEY edit it and everything else. Now with the station and defranco studios and totally sketch they all have someone else doing all that for them and to me i feel less of a connection to the youtuber.

  • I really enjoy your vlogs about nothing, and your important vlogs like this one. I just like hearing you talk and seeing your life, becuase that is what is interesting to me. On your main channel you should put up things you are proud of because as a film maket people will look back on that once you are nominated for an oscar. but in the meanwhile make daily vlogs for the money and so keep up remembering that we love you!

  • The most annoying thing to me is when users choose their content for the PURPOSE of getting more views. Like "what will people look up on youtube? Let's make a video about THAT!" or completely misleading titles or thumbnails is another one. I just enjoy raw, organic, honest entertainment that isn't based off view count. Keep it smooth, Brent. P.S. - are those 0 gauge?

  • If you made a full length song out of that Thumbs Up song but with different lyrics, it would probably get a lot of hits ^_^

  • @garblemuffin Funfact: Toby's been posting videos on youtube since mid 2006

  • NEVER be one of those obnoxious youtubers who constantly go on about how they have a facebook, and twitter, and a second channel, and a tumblr and whatever other social networks there are. it gets old and annoying fast. and PLEASE for the LOVE OF GOD never use fake thumbnails

  • savage.....

we post great videos whether they are stupid stuff like techno zombie to you crying about alba to friggin winning frightmare. go to LA. be famous. love you brother.

  • @JustVinnay by we i mean you... hah

  • Brent. I will be your thing.

  • Get ready for this cheesy line...

Do what your heart tells you!!

You'll do amazing at whatever you do, Brent. Without a doubt! Good luck with everything! <3

  • Dammit, I lost.

  • Toby Turner is what I think about current Youtube culture. He makes daily vids about how awesome he is, plays video games and talks about how funny he is and makes literal trailers about how more awesome he can make something. Its very ego driven nowadays but we eat it up like its icecream :)

  • @mnmmoose14 i only REALLY found out about Toby around 2 weeks ago. the dude's personality is contagious. whatever "it" is.. he's got it in spades.

  • @mnmmoose14 so true!

  • Are you looking forward to any certain independent films coming out this year? Obviously I don't know, but I really think you'll love Bellflower and Red White and blue. And, are you working on any feature scripts? I always find it awesome to find out what other film makers plans are.

  • I'm subscribed to a lot of people: Shay, Charles, Phil, ...the "big guys". I don't really watch their videos anymore. I don't really care for their videos anymore. Brent, you are one of the few youtubers that still makes what they want to make. The others just feel like they are doing it for the money.

  • Dude, you just about the only person on this site who i watch ever video of, people like charestrippy have just got plain old boring. "Back in the day" he had sketch videos, all kind of stuff and now its just some trashy vlog like so reality show or some shit. Keep doing what your doing man, id prefer 1 video a year from you than 600 vlogs

  • I think you should just do what Charles does. Personally, I could sit here and listen to you talk for half an hour and not get bored. Pretty much no matter what you do, you seem to find a way to make it entertaining without some kind of gimmick behind it. So, I think you should put vlogs up on here more often to pay the bills and whatnot so that way you can have all the time in the world to make your main videos but still stay connected with your viewers.

  • @RyanYDG honestly the way YouTube assigns their CPMs for advertising (which is something I don't really understand still, I just sort of go with it) isn't significant enough for me to actually make a living posting videos online, even with both my channels combined. i think there's a big myth that people buy into, which is that EVERYONE in the partner program is raking in the big bucks. not true. i don't have a 9-5 job..i would LOVE to make YouTube my full time profession... it's just not enough

  • @garblemuffin Yea, that's true, but I still think putting up more vlogs would be better for your YouTube relevance. Like you said, even if you're not making ass loads of money, they're easy enough to make and they would keep your face in people's Subscriptions. Maybe have one or two a week instead of everyday though, 'cause sometimes they do tend to get annoying. btw, congrats on nextup. I shared the shit out of Overload. All of my friends died at the awesome pants skit.

  • This video kind of explains perfectly why I don't bother putting up new shit on YouTube anymore. In my case the perfect days on YouTube were 06 'till the end of '08. Too much competition now, too hard, blehh. Oh well.

Don't play the game Brent, just put out some shit when you feel like it. We'll gladly watch it :]

  • @ResoIve saw your foil short, pretty damned impressive!

  • @garblemuffin You.. watched my video.. o_o

Wow, that's pretty cool. And thanks! :]

  • Andrew Bravener did a similar blog to this and how youtube has changed. I had a bunch to say about the subject, but I can't seem to express it

Your creative process is how you work and to be honest I feel like it's more entertaining content then people who are just trying to push out a video every week.

  • @sweetartfreak i saw andrew's video.. couldn't get it out of my head. great stuff.

  • Brent you are a very entertaining person in general your classic vids in ItsBrent were literally you just spiting out your thoughts on stuff and adding in a few cool cuts, lol i think the only difference between this channel and itsbrent is that you are moving around with the cam. just be what you always where, you.

P.s. you are the only youtuber i know who can make a vblog without any edits, NOW thats talent

  • @thehalfcapsofficial nah, no talent. i'm just okay at talking.

  • @garblemuffin ok now your just trying to be modest, be proud Brent you knw you want to be

  • I haven't played the game, but since I really don't know what my 'thing' is, it's kinda pointless. There has been quite a bit of discussion about the evolution of YouTube lately and I can only point to the partner program as the point when things started rolling. People are putting out mediocre crap daily, in order to make money instead of putting good content every once in a while for fun. I guess it comes to show how much people love money.

    Also, go Mavs!

  • @theastrovanman i'll be at game 3 tonight. nervous.

  • I actually find your comedy funnier than most of the other sketch comedies I see on youtube but I have a weird sick sense of humor. I also like the fact that you don't post as regularly as others. A lot of the people that you mentioned I enjoyed at first but became bored with them quickly when they're posting daily or multiple videos a week.

  • @DuckyPorkchop having a weird sense of humor has been my strongest asset. haha

  • I Agree with you Brent! My issue with youtube is that I find it difficult to find people I want to watch, if you know what I mean. My though is this: If I can't find things I want to watch easily, how are other people supposed to find, say, my channel? (if I produce content that people want to watch that is) I love sxephil and raywj and all that jazz, but I feel like the smalltimers (like myself - 8 subscribers, what am I even doing here, lol) are being overshadowed. Gaah it's just frustrating.

  • @Linncredible the little people get buried. and now being "little" is having less than 50,000-100,000 subscribers. it's a tough world.

  • @garblemuffin exactly! Youtube should be kinda like Amazon. "other people who watched this also watched this and this". Arghhh

  • @Linncredible that's actually not a bad idea. and i think that was the original intent for 'related videos' or what ever it was called before when you finished watching a video and YouTube popped up three more like the one you just finished. but, that's gone now. so, y'know, whatevs.

  • @garblemuffin they do have the recommendations, but they're always shitty. so. yeah. arghh

  • Brent you've made a huge point. YouTube was about bad quality and a tight community where the highest subbed had 30,000 tops. Now its HD, and top quality sketches and expectations are so high. The little guys can't find their way. Its horrible to see. Everything was so better pre-2008. Nostalgia was great.

But before I go, Brent, look up a recent video by AndrewBravener's 'An Open Letter To YouTube'. Everything in it is so, so true, & it kind of breaks my heart. Must watch video. Take care :-D

  • @Bazzer239 andrew's video was an instant classic in my mind.

  • wow this epic drama had me on the edge of my seat, especially at 0:19. i think the camera angles gave away a bit of the theatrical engineering, but the ending was outstanding, i hope to see a part 2 of this trilogy.

  • i agree with what you said !

  • hey. hey you. still love you. no worries we cool.

  • 3:52 dinosaur burp! "mm baby" Hahaha! Good luck with finding your "thing", Brent! :)

  • I agree with everything. I've been on youtube for 4 years, and it use to be fun, it use to be just people making videos because they wanted to and loved it, now it's all about a big production and money, and I mean, that can be fine, but that's the only thing that works anymore. and consistency is something i did horrible as well. I was early an subscriber of yours and I've changes, but we all change. it really is hard to be big on this and for it to be worth something

  • My dog wont fetch a stick...

Still many congrats and I agree with you.... I have no thing... oops ah well that explains EVERYTHING hahaha...

  • @millymollymandy16 hahahah indeed.

  • @garblemuffin that said... I just did a makeup tutorial of a lady gaga thing... I look like the black haired version of her. FML

    Maybe thats my thing?

  • Brent you are a prophet. Your feelings are the same ones that power everything I do.

  • @Iluvtogekiss a prophet? hm, how so? if you care to elaborate...? :)

  • @garblemuffin Prophets are often known for expounding wisdom, often wisdom concerning lifestyle and the motvation behind actions too. Life.

While Im not going to try and compare this vlog to some ancient text like the Tao te Ching, and of course the the comment was meant to be semi humorous, I believe that your words expressed true and valid wisdom, that many could learn from.

  • You sir are hilarious and we love you so take your time, we understand.

  • Comment removed

  • psn is down, which is why you made this lol

  • Am I the only one who said... "yes?"... when you asked if you wanted the stick?

  • <3

  • Is that an energy drink ( again) ? PS I LOVE B!

  • first!

  • FIRST

  • @joshuadclarkwith1u congrats.

  • @garblemuffin thank you, nice vid
