Excellent!! I have the DW744X table saw and was wondering about a workbench to work with it. You've just solved my problem. Great work and great workbench.

I keep saying soon. I need good weather and the truck at home all at once. I did attempt to recored it a few times, but didn't like the results. SOON!
what about if the site is all uneven ground without a concrete drive or such? Limited to the "portable" aspect for general contracters but I believe excellent for the "finish" carpenter at that stage of a build. Excellent table, my hats off to you!

150 homes since '90 is an average of over 7 homes per year, plus numerous remodels and additions? I'm just curious, how many employees do you have? You seem more like the type who likes to do the work yourself.
Great looking work table...Very functional and the portability and ease of set up sets it apart from others. Just out of curiosity, what type of materials is it made of and approx how much did it cost material wise? GREAT JOB !!
Very nice. I don't need the portability so much but love the design with its stroage and the ability to break it down easily on the occasion that I would need to do so. I hope you don't mind if I creat something similar but tweaked for my own shop. If you have plans your willing to share, great. Other wise it looks pretty straight forward. Which in the end is the beauty of the thing!
Too many woodworkers concentrate on power and hand tools and fail to consider a workbench as being a tool. A good workbench can be as important as any hand held or stationary tool. This design obviously recognizes that. It looks like a very good portable design, and would beat hands down any combination of saw horses and sheet goods. As a permanent work surface, the only thing I would miss would be the stability of weight. I'd also miss the lack of any kind of traditional vice.
It does work well for my needs as a contractor, finish carpenter, and cabinet maker. I could fit a traditional vise, but since I have made it 25 years without one......

Very, very nice Ron. I recently re-entered (tools bags on) the general contracting business with a finish carpentry after 18 years in project management and have been seeing the need for time saving ideas that not only provide a premium product but ultimately are safer by design. The noobs and hacks that I run into today seem to feel working on the ground without saw stands and work tables amaze me. 5 minutes for a safer premium working area?! its a no brain-er. Well done!

I have been in the field for over 30 years. I can see this sitting on my job sites. If there was a way to buy the bench or even buy the plans this would be an investment I would make. I think you have something here....
You are not kidding about bragging. My whole inspiration for the original video was my clients, everyone of them, men and women taking notice of the the bench. I would be building them something in their home and their focus was the bench. I like the bench very much and it does make my life easier, but the clients taking notice was amazing to me.
When I compare this innovation by a table saw Man to my personal work memories, the name DJ Christoforo comes to mind. I was delighted with all the little hints and utility pieces he designed and shared with us. This is a great great piece for the aspiring wood worker to build, use and brag about.
Well done man you are the last of the great carpenters i am going to my workshop in the morning and going to build one? It is bloody brilliant i will show it off in my home town in Ireland and tell about you on YouTube lots of Irish luck Tay you
I love it. I can really empathize with you just by watching how you explained your creation. I'm sure there was much more you wanted to say, but also trying to keep it short and to the point. I like watching others use their brain and just MAKE what they need, rather than buy something that forces you to compromise all your needs for less quality. Wish more people were like this. Good job.
props to you sir I have never seen such a neat clean setup before. this is definitely a reflection to your attention to detail. you should get a patent on this outstanding table design..........cheers
I don't know if this was discussed or considered but if you had the option of separating the two top pieces so you have a gap between you could run a table saw down it without worrying about sacrificial stock when breaking down large plywood. It may not work perfectly because no one would be able to reach all the way across so you would have to cut from both ends.
If i saw this setup on a job site I'd be very impressed. I'm a flooring contractor and when I see organized setups like this its almost always a good mark of their workmanship.
Nice job Ron Im thinking of building just a top to sit on my fold up benches. I wonder how shallow the top can be made and still be stiff enough. Im thinking 50mm (2") using the torsion box method. That way it will take up less room in my van while transporting.
You could use 1/2" or even 3/8" on top for holes and1/4" on the bottom. Build an egg crate assembly in between with 1 1/2" rips of 1/2" ply. Glue and staple the unit together for a very flat stable top. If you do not plan on the clamp holes, you could use 1/4" top and bottom. Basically, you are building a big hollow core door. When I had a cabinet shop, I had a number of these stacked against the wall used when we were assembling cabinets.
VERY NICE BENCH, LOVE THE TABLE SAW IDEA !....AND THE TOOL STORAGE IS GENIUS......A MITER SAW ATTACHMENT WOULD MAKE IT THE ULTIMATE WORK AREA......GREAT JOB !!!
Great work bench!!!! I never heard of your company but if I had to guess I'll bet you build a great house too. Any man that gives that much thought into doing the job puts allot of thought in the job itself as well.
I laid out a grid 4" in both directions, then used festool rail with router attachment. The rail kept the router inline on one axis and I eyeballed the crossing lines and plunged in with 19mm up-cut spiral bit.
I am glad you are find some ideas that will work in your situation. Plywood is the core material I used for everything. I am not sure I would know how to build without it.
Hi Ron. I have enjoyed watching your videos for both the project ideas as well as your methods of construction. I am also a home builder but in Australia. Started my company one year after yours. We are not as plywood orientated as you guys appear to be but I am fast becoming accustomed to the idea!
I am still using a trailer but will refit using your adjustable partitions idea. Thanks again for your generosity.
@toodlepipoldchap - what do you guys use in place of plywood? Particle board (aka - chip board)? Is wood more scarce and more expensive there? I imagine so going off the stereotypical visions of that country we have.
@catothewiser Just about all of our kitchen cabinets are made from 16mm HMR melamine. Plywood is relatively expensive here, but there you go, we live on an island and USA is a long way from here, boats aren't cheap.
Thanks, Ron, several really good work flow accommodations and features I will use for fixed benches in the garage-shop of my current live-in remodel. Interesting, in another video, to see that you have Track Racks on your truck as I do. Some of the same thinking.
Just watched all your videos. Miter Saw, Trailer, New Truck, and Miter Saw. I think you have so great ideas. Makes me want to redo my workbench. I have the same table saw and I've been wanting to find a way to easily adapt it to my home workbench. I'll need to scale the bench down a little so it will fit in my truck and garage. Maybe a 5 X 5 design. Also your sawhorses are a great idea.
I really like your table, it has a very clever and practical design. The only improvement I can think of is if there was a way to attach a triangle to the festool track to make square cuts- that could also have a measuring tape on it that indexed to a point on the table- So you could put a full sheet on the table and have it touch indexing pegs- then slide the track to the measurement you need. Not sure if i'm explaining it right- think cnc router.
I am currently writing and article on the UPCWB for "This is Carpentry" with photos and details. Not sure when it will be published, first I have to finish it.
Nice job!

Nice job Ron Im thinking of building just a top to sit on my fold up benches. I wonder how shallow the top can be made and still be stiff enough. Im thinking 50mm (2") using the torsion box method. That way it will take up less room in my van while transporting.

@Biggsy1970
When I had a cabinet shop, I had a number of these stacked against the wall used when we were assembling cabinets.

genius may be a stretch, but a carpenter who is having fun while looking for an easier way would be accurate.
Thanks

Great work bench!!!! I never heard of your company but if I had to guess I'll bet you build a great house too. Any man that gives that much thought into doing the job puts allot of thought in the job itself as well.
THANKS for the post.

I laid out a grid 4" in both directions, then used festool rail with router attachment. The rail kept the router inline on one axis and I eyeballed the crossing lines and plunged in with 19mm up-cut spiral bit.

Hi Mr Paulk, Nice bench.
How did you drill the holes at 4" space? Did you use the Festool LR system or some other kind of jig?

Very clever design. Obviously a lot of thought went into it.
I especially like the 3/4" holes for clamping through the top.

Dave,
I am glad you are find some ideas that will work in your situation. Plywood is the core material I used for everything. I am not sure I would know how to build without it.
Australia is one place on my bucket list.
Thanks,
Ron Paulk

@crpaulk Give me a shout when you come over Ron and you can use my studio in the Blue Mountains as a base.
davestanton2779 4 months ago
Dave.
toodlepipoldchap 4 months ago
@toodlepipoldchap - what do you guys use in place of plywood? Particle board (aka - chip board)? Is wood more scarce and more expensive there? I imagine so going off the stereotypical visions of that country we have.
catothewiser 3 months ago
@catothewiser Just about all of our kitchen cabinets are made from 16mm HMR melamine. Plywood is relatively expensive here, but there you go, we live on an island and USA is a long way from here, boats aren't cheap.

Very nice table i want to build one

Just another thought your table is just a little tall unless your 8’ tall to cut all the way across a 4’ cut for control of the saw.

Also your sawhorses are a great idea.

very good concept. thanks.

Very nice and efficient design!
What sheet stock did you make this from?
Any sort of finish on it to keep clean and glue from sticking?
A few other things, did you ever consider:
- A few internal baffles to create a "torsion box" to keep the boxes flat?
- Putting in a metal outlet box with 4 or 6 120 outlets, tucked into one end or side?
- Holes in the bottom to help sift out some of the sawdust?
