Never seen this before... i mean with this intro ;-) A great video and song! Gary Numan was so creative between 79 to 83 then he lost his way... like Bowie did from the early 80's. Oh and I just wonder does anyone know if it is the same bass player on Music for Chameleons as this song? I love the basslines on both and they sound similar...
...nope....its not mick karn...its pino palladino....thought you would have known that...very distinct sound difference between a musicman bass and a wal....considering your obvious "ear" for music....disappointing.
@mrmarcus68 - correct... While both Pino Pallidino and Mick Karn are amazing bass players... Mick only worked on Numan's "Dance" LP... also I don't remember him ever "popping" the the strings as on this track...
... and, yes, Mick played bass during this period of Numan's activity. So, that reaches even deeper in Numan's Sylvian reflection, I guess. This sounds more like a leftover from Giorgio Moroder-produced 'Life In Tokyo' era...
This is pretty much a desperate attempt to sound like David Sylvian during his Japan era or something. Numan is the hitmaker but with every album he seemed more like jumping the bandwagon of sorts...
great rythem in song. deb was his then girlfriend who he had an affair with. she was at the time with his record company. shame she had to blab to the press about living with him. cow!
love the dance in that video. i think he dances quite well. dispite what some pepole have commented. i also like that bit where the shaft of light focuses on his eyes brings them up lovely.
vhs deteriorates and quality is lost, so transfer to cd if possible.there is a device i know of that help improve quality though when transfering .. its called "copy this!" from Sima. mine is about 2 or so years old but there may be something new outthere so check.
I have this on an old bootleg video. It's called Newman/Numan...or Numan/Newman, I forget which, but it's an old compilation from 1982, which was also released on vinyl. Cool song. I love Pino Palladino's bass playing.
Deadliner do you think he might release it on DVD? I have the same video too and Micromusic plus the Touring Principle but the tapes are ageing now and I think this VHS format needs replacing
oops... you left the first note to Complex at the end... :P but seriously great video here.... :)

The face-overlay thing with the projector reminds me a lot of parts of the "Burning Down the House" video.
Oh, and Numan has one of those awesome round chairs! Sweet! Just makes him all the more awesome...
Man, I love Gary Numan.
