mr sqip. Esma is a good friend of mine, I met her a few years ago while I was translating the movie Gypsy Caravan. I also went on tour with her for 1 week as a translator for her I got to know her and her history pretty well. 1. Esma and her father where born in Macedonia in the city of Skopje in the Romani ghetto of Topana. EsmaONLY identifies herself as a Macedonian Rom. The translation in English is 'My Dilber' (Мой дилбере). Transliteration: Moj Dilbere ;-) Dilbere is rudimental vocative case - Dilber (e). The word 'dilber' means beautiful and it is really borrowed from the Ottoman Turkish. This word was very often used in Bulgaria untill the 30s of XX c. including in songs, poems etc. As for Esma - yes, she is Roma (horohane) but not Albanian. Substaintial part of her songs are related to traditional (folklore) Macedonian/Bulgarian songs.

Moj Dilbere is Bulgarian song. But as Macedonians derivate from Bulgarians you're right. And for Albanian - the self-identification is more important. That's why I respect the choice of Macedonians. But they should create their own identity and not to steal Bulgarian history and art.
