This is an exceptional effort at painting a semblance of luminance over the life of an exceedingly important woman. She brought the idealism of the 19th Century into the 20th in a way that many women could not. I am so deeply enamored of her fortitude, compassion and philosophical resiliency at a difficult moment in human history. How I adore her! The filmmakers have used the best tools they could afford to do magic. I gleaned a lot. Thank you.
Simone de Beauvoir has given me one important thing : "One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman", and i struggle already for some years against all world.
so it's just "society" which makes girls play dress up more than boys? You can raise kids in a feminist atomsphere and gender will still reassert itself cause it is real and you should embrace your feminity and the power inherent in being a women. The biggest lie of feminism was that women were powerless victims (and have only now become otherwise). As Samuel Johnson wrote, "Nature has given women so much power that the law has very wisely given them little.”
I respect your views. However, the word gender should not be synonymous to sex. Gender is socially constructed, we perform our masculinity or femininity. Sex is our biological structure that determines whether we are male/female. How were they powerful? They had no social, political and economic power. You can debate that nature has given Women power, however the world that we live in subjugates women, that's why we have feminist reforms. Peace.

The late Czesław Miłosz described Simone de Beauvoir well: 'A stupid bitch'.

Nitpicky detail, undoubtedly, but is the name "Beauvoir" not actually pronounced as "Boov-wah?"

@jaimehatchet No it´s not, Pronounciation in this vid is far from perfect but indeed closer then "boov-vah" would be. Cheers.
