  • Delicious.

  • thats nice!!!!!!!

  • This is awesome!

Your webpage wont load however :-(

Really wanted to check out the Stepmania Player so I could use it while building my light set.

  • I'm glad you like it!

Sorry about that - my server is kind of unreliable.

I tested it just now and it wouldn't even load for me (on the same LAN =p). I've restarted it and it appears to be up and running again.

  • FULL SCREEN!! :D

  • Thank you for getting me into Stepmania :)

  • That was nice. Make more!!

  • You surely know how to make Step Mania more epic than it already is huh? I want to do it but I don't know how to set up the whole stuff.

  • Totally awesome XD

  • So you're the one who woke me up in the middle of the night

  • MY EYEEEESS!!!

    xDDD

  • So much flashy lights going off and on xD~! 5/5

  • Some people are gonna get seizures.

  • Quit complaining.

  • cool,is soooooo cool。

    what dolles?

  • This was awsome!

  • Cool I need those lights, Tell me how to do those or where to buy it D:

  • oooh I love this tune, and I love the flashes o_o *stares*

  • Ow my eyes ;___;

    Do Nuclear Fusion next? :D

  • What the fuck this is awesome.

  • Dude this is awesome!!! i wish i thought of this! you gained like 20 cool points!

    xD

  • Nice. Now put this on while playing Touhou and you'll end up in the hospital with paralysis/seizure/coma. JK

How much did it (everything included) cost?

I bet your local DJ will gladly buy it from you (no wait, it's priceless!)

Try getting a patent for this. lol

(Also, I would hate to be your neighbor)

  • It was around 38 pounds in total. I'm working on a tutorial video which shows you how to make these yourself (controlled by the parallel port), but it's taking longer than expected... =/

  • What is 38 pounds in US dollars? We're having a little financial crisis going on here so maybe when you reply the pounds to dollars scale will need to be updated...

    I'll check anyways.

  • Heh, it's not only you in the crisis. ;P

Sorry, I would normally have converted - I forgot.

At this minute, 38 GBP = 56.24 USD.

I recommend using XE (YouTube's blocking any hint of URLs in comments now, so please just do a Google search for it) (XE updates its conversion tables every minute or so).

  • Oh wow. $56.00? You used your money efficiently. Strobe lights are about $10.00 at the cheapest and they can go up to the hundreds so I would say you have pretty good money management.

  • Well, they're LED-based lights, but yes, I found a person on eBay who sells new ones for very little (4 GBP, 5.90 USD). Some places wanted 8 GBP (11.80 USD) for one... =/

  • Nice. Got it.

  • lol, cool room :)

  • Crazy light Show

  • Neighbors: WTH?! CALL 911! THERE'S A FIRE OR SOMETHING!

  • NO! It's a frog party HOORAY! >ヮ<ノ

  • uh, just saying that would get anoyying if you played one of the dragon force songs :D lolz

  • stare at the bottom right the whole time... im seeing random dots over my screen. lol

  • Yeah... you should be careful with that. =/

Actually, if you freeze the video at the right moments, you can see my camcorder itself sees a similar thing many times - when (usually the blue or green, because they're brightest) lights are at full brightness, it sometimes gets too bright for the camcorder's CCD to recognise and so the centre of the bulb actually looks black with only a halo of light around it. Kinda makes me worry about damaging the poor thing. =/

  • ur neighbors must have been like WTF!!!!!

  • This is incredible, if you ever host a rave, let me know, I'm totlly going. With this kind of light fixings and Touhou music, it'll be a damn great party XD

  • Shouldn't this vid have a warning against epilepsy? Just a thought.

  • Possibly, but I hoped that "StepMania Lights" and "Seizure Mode" would have been enough hints (especially after seeing my previous video about these lights before they were in a box).

  • I see how you did these XD.

  • Program works perfectly, didnt have to do anything but open it. Thx for the PM saying that the program was done. ^.^

  • Okay, the program is now released. I'm still working on a guide to building the actual lights and using the program, but I think the program's fairly easy to start to use as long as you know about step charts in StepMania.

Please check the video description for a link, people. ;D

  • Works great mate, cheers. Only had to download a few extra .ocx files and it fired right up. Will now just wait for your paraller tutorial or order a SSC-32. :)

  • Thanks for letting me know, and I'm glad you got it to work. The download ZIP now includes the OCX/DLL files and info on what to do with them, but that's made the file size shoot up to 1.61 MB. -_-'

  • I cant wait till you release the how to guide

  • うわ。すげ名ロビさんでもこれ犯罪じゃないですか?

  • you are the best men , i need your help xD , but later xD

  • I wonder if anyone passed by, wondering what the heck was going on in there.

  • When I hear the song and the lights flashing to the notes...

    My fingers start hurting...

    Nice ^^

  • Wow, I wish I had lights that could do that XD

And did you actually blast that music at night, or did you just put the song over the video? And if you did blast it, what did the neighbors say ?

  • Well, a tutorial video will be on the way from me soon.

No, I didn't blast the music through anything other than my headphones - the lights were doing all the blasting. ;)

  • How many cameras do you have?!

  • Well, I have a camcorder and I have a PSP camera. But here, I was only using my camcorder. I just shot them separately and synced them on my comp together.

Notice how the top-left view misses the first flash - I explain why in the video description. ;)

  • Type &fmt=18 at the end of the url and see it in full screen...Enjoy 8)

    But that's cool, now i can't see anything...xD

lol the video from outside xD

  • Well, that just lets you watch it at 480x360 resolution and at a higher bitrate. It's not the full original 800x600 resolution though.

There's also a "watch in high quality" link which does the same. ;P

  • No, When you click in the link with watch in high quality it's like &fmt=6, but &fmt=18 is better...:P

  • Oh wow, I didn't know that. =D

When they first introduced the high quality thing, I swear it just added &fmt=18... =/

  • Normal high quality link in the videos (&fmt=6) is FLV and mono audio, &fmt=18 is h.264 and AAC stereo audio in an .MP4 container. &fmt=6 has a higher video bitrate compared to &fmt=18 though (512kbps vs. 900kbps) so you might want to try that IF the sound quality doesn't matter at all for the video at hand, I only think silent videos are fit for this. It's too bad youtube doesn't let us choose fmt=18 automatically from the settings though, I always find it the better option.

  • @MrTeeh: Awesome, thanks for that detailed info!

(Sorry for previous typo of your name, corrected now xD)

  • Don't sweat it, a lot of people tend to typo it. :3

  • by the way thx for your help somthingunreal.

you really are my big example.

if i ever could do anything to help you in return, i will :D.

    i gona learn programming to,

thats the only thing i dont know about computers yet.

the rest i have learned myself.

and its still quite much :)

lol the internet helpdesk was even amazed what i all found out and not even reading any manual :D

  • o.o

  • I love it. Now you can have a rave anytime =D

  • 5 stars by the way :)

  • how did you make the lights react on stepmania?????

and how did you build that.

i want to make something like that too.

    robby plz tell :D

  • Well, the lights aren't controlled by StepMania in this video - they're controlled by a program I made. My program has each light assigned to a different arrow, whereas StepMania just flashes all lights at once for any of the arrows (which I find a bit annoying). Also, my program controls them via the serial port with a microcontroller, and StepMania controls them via the parallel port directly.

You're not the first person to want to know how I've done it - I'll make a tutorial video soon. ;D

  • What did the neighbours say?

    X3

  • Heh, unfortunately, not a single person seemed to pass by while I had the lights going. -_-

  • If I was outside the house, I would've thought your computer exploded and lights were going nuts on the monitor. Was the music audible outside the house too? Then you could see the sync. xD

  • Heh, no, it wasn't audible (it was 3:46 AM). ;)

  • that must have took ages to line the audio to the video so perfectly

  • Heh, well, I just aligned the first flash in each of the views with each other, then aligned the music with that. Then I remembered that YouTube messes up video/audio sync so I looked at a previous video of the lights I uploaded and moved the audio in this new video in the opposite direction by the same amount to try to counter-act it.

  • nice one. lol

  • Thats is sweet!

  • ahah that must confuse the hell of neighbors.

  • Heh, yeah, it looks a bit like some crazy electrical explosion at times.

  • no crap with the sezure stuff O_o

  • My eyes are blinded with awsomness!! B)
