  • todays its guns and bombs and tanks this is of no good in war but keeping tradition is good

  • i heard him say battou jutsu

  • A dying art, fantastic to see people still practicing it :)

  • I just thought that you might want to reevaluate your understanding of the word.

An overhead cut is just as much a technique as a horizontal cut, an underhand cut, a throw, or a disarm etc..

Simply because a technique can be countered doesn't mean that it should not or can not be used in combat.

I simply find your expectations of what is obviously, a very basic tutorial, totally unrealistic. But it was self indulgent for me to instigate this argument in the first place. BAH!

  • I really don't see the point of Japanese sword-technique. Like their Nihonmo technique, its basically like a over-head slash.....how is that a technique? don't you have to take any of the other stuff into account...like THE POSSIBLE chance of your opponent COUNTERING IT?!?!?!?!

  • @akira357 Technique: A practical method, skill, or art applied to a particular task.

  • @TheFrostedLlama Thank you for defining the word, now do you have anything that contribute for discussion?

  • sumimasen. watashi wa (boku wa/ore wa....wat eberu xD) watashi wa .... nihonjin denwa arimasen.

    dakara boku wa wakarimasen ne......

...........eeehhh!!?????!!!!??? xD LOL i would enjoy watching your master, if only I understand what he says~

(I can't even speak Japanese in good grammar)

  • As a practicer of standard Kendo and Iaido this at first looked very strange to me (almost like a "bob sensei" fake video) but after looking a few more times I have to say I'm intrigued. His movements, if a bit unorthadox, are perfectly controlled and very remnant of Iai and it shows that he has practiced some Kendo/Iaido in the "correct" way previously

Anyone calling this a fake should go practice some standard Kendo/Iaido for a while and you'll learn to recognize a "bob sensei" when you see it

  • @MrMazrim No way is right or wrong as long as it gets the job done,i for one enjoyed his style of lets just say no style,he has steped out of the box of traditional.I have seen many styles and i could pick apart any style, now does that make me right?I mean no offense to what you said, what i do or what you do we should respect and always be willing to learn something other than traditional and i very much respect the old way lol that was the birth of tradition. From a simple man

  • this bullshit doesn't have effect when your oppenent shoot you! xD

  • @sasukeuchiwa12 a true maRTIAL artist use hands to fight hands, words to fight words, blade to fight blade...and gun to fight gun; no TRUE martial art really negate the use of guns

  • so this would be iaido?

  • Also learn shinkendo which is another samurai sword art.

  • @lulzbot yeah but sometimes i see Ronin use 2 sword at the same times so he is not in the swordman ship?

  • 1:20 Cool!

  • @lulzbot seriously? :o

  • I DONT UNDERSTAND JAPANESE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Samurai...One of the Most respected Martial Arts to Me (Next to MMA).

  • @lulzbot

if you study miyamoto musashi's school of thought you must wield a sword in each hand otherwise you have wasted a resource, as in your second hand which can also be holding a second weapon. Therefore you are more likely to survive multiple attackers whom are also wielding swords. also If you wind up with only one sword you would be able to wield it with either hand and use a small and deceptive shuriken or other small weapon with your second hand. this video is a one handed technique

  • @ThayCallmeJesus I think lulzbot meant that if there is a choice, the sword will always go in the right hand. If you had a katana and a wakazashi, the katana would be in the right hand. Katana and shuriken, katana still in the right hand. The right is the "dominant" hand, even if the person is left handed.

I'm in gumdo and it's the same thing. I write left handed, but my right hand is still closer to the hilt, no matter if it may feel more natural the other way.

  • @SheenaMalfoy Conventionally, the katana is set to the right hand but you don't need to follow order ethics to become great.

Martial arts and the art of the sword is about self-development.

You can't develop yourself if you aren't becoming greater in the way someone else does.

  • @unionofonion Of course you would learn the left hand too. I'm just saying if there is a choice, the sword should go in the right.

  • @ThayCallmeJesus Trolls, trolling trolls.

  • @ThayCallmeJesus good but one is more stable. unlike most movies. fighting 2 different ppl at the same time with 2 different weopins would be rediculas.

  • Looks good but in the fight he wouldn't be able to make a cut. He cuts too wide, takes too much time for each slash. IMO, no offensive. Cheers. ;)

  • @averit Being fast isn't always the best.

A fast opponent would lose against one with more precision that observes his enemy and his weaknesses.

However, slow attacks are not good against groups. Slow but precise attacks are only good in one on one fights.

  • @unionofonion no it is not. Strength is speed. you can have precise attacks, but a samurai will have the speed to dodge or block them. I'm samurai as well but believe me, speed and the length of the weapon is everything. A samurai can't win of someone with a naginata or a spear, you just can't go through them, but thats nothing to do with precision. Speed wins of precision, in a fight you don't have the time to think how to fight, you have to do it at the same time, and samurais can

  • @sanctihakita You are correct brother, speed is strength of the body and mind and in combat you react without thought, but i question the length of a blade, naginata, spear staff is everything?cuz even you know you have to get in close to defeat a longer weapon.I use two swords my samurai sword is over 3 feet in length,my wakizashi is under 2 feet,my longer weapon is for blocking or slashing,it's my wakizashi the weapon you have to look out for,but neither you or i are wrong everything is a weapon.

  • I like his movement. he looks very calm

  • calm down people, even japan has fake masters and mcdojos.

  • @Mitzrael19 No, they dont.

Their entired culture is based originally on bushido and kung fu.

    You're mistaking America for this.

  • That's a pretty good concise lesson on the basics, if footwork had been explained it would have been much much longer though XD

  • what kind of ryuu is this?

  • Damn, he is smooth.

  • I like the way he performs No to, perfect

  • clean movements ...

  • I'm just saying....In tradition....You would never be aloud inside with a sword. :F

  • @lulzbot not everyone Niten Ichi-ryū ^.^

  • Wow, his Swordsmanship is almost flawless to the point of perfect! Simply beautiful to see...

  • nice flowing movement

  • the left hand is the key of power right is is just to control ... so basically is left handed

  • Even though he is demonstrating technique, and very detailed,He still does so with great panache and passion.

lulzbot Im ambidextrous....Smething my old school did...Namely the ruler acroos the back of the hand if I wrote with the left hand.lol.

So I dont have a problem there.

    What Ryu do you study

  • Awsome
