The indigenously designed and developed Kaveri Engine was successfully flight tested on an IL76 by DRDO yesterday during the Flying Test Bed (FTB) Trials at Gromov Flight Research Institute (GFRI), Moscow, Russia.

K9 version of Kaveri engine was tested from take-off to landing and flew for a period of over one hour up to at an altitude of 6000m at a speed of 0.6 mach on its maiden flight. The engine control, engine performance and engine health during the flight were found to be excellent

Tejas Mk1 Initial operational clearance by early 2011

Indian air force has ordered 40 Tejas Mark 1 and Indian Navy some more Tejas mark 1.

We are also looking at 100 Tejas Mark 2 for Indian air force and at least 50 Tejas Mark 2 for Indian Navy

In total, we are looking at least 200 to 250 Tejas for both Indian air force and Navy for both mark1 and mark 2 versions.

Next step is AMCA (Advanced medium combat stealth aircraft). I hope kaveri gets ready for this twin engined beast.

I think india should train the afghan air force and supply them with Tejas. Also, India should construct air bases in Afghanistan for both the Afghan air force and IAF bases too.

So we can encircle Pakistan.

Attack Pakistan from: Afghanistan in the west, Tajikistan(Farkhor air base) in the north and India from the east.

I would not consider that as a prudent step. Even though Afghanistan has excellent ties with us regarding Pakistan problem, I highly doubt that they would be pleased to find us in their country. USA tried it and now it is in a deep soup. The thing about Afghanistan its fragile political fabric. Because of that, there can be suddenly a govt that would turn against us and that is something we won't want in the midst of a war. Supplying them with Tejas is another thing I won't advise. Not now.

I am not sure about the duration of this documentary. May be it is a short documentary. LCA has already completed 898 test flights as of june 2008 !!

dude Medium combat aircraft is different, it's not the PAK-FA, MCA is a totally indegenous 5th generation stealth air superiority aircraft whereas the PAK-FA is developed in collaberation with russia. Infact PAK-FA is developed by russia and it's 2 seater verison is going to be developed/built by India.

yes, you are right !! Indian air force is changing their requirements every year !! Now they are asking for a powerful engine and the worst part is IAF saying that french and russian engine makers don't meet their requirements completely to develop kaveri engine. I think IAF wants some engine maker from the planet Mars or something !! All these foreign lobby groups are filling up the swiss bank accounts of senior IAF officers !! IAF just don't want support the indigenous programs !!
