actually, i think he sounds pretty good for his age. his voice isnt going to sound like hes 25 forever, jeez people. and it doesnt seem like theres a lack of people going to his concerts :)
Desde el 79 que he visto a Jethro Tull, unas 15 veces en diferentes lugares de USA y siempre Ian a mostrado algo diferente en sus precentaciones. No me canso REnunca...PO!
GREAT..... . Great... Any time you see Ian and the band perform its a real Treat...Ian is the worlds Greatest performer of all time... His singing and flute playing is Superb.. Long Live Ian........
to peter noooooooooooooooooooo he should not retire,or ever i could watch them( him) when in a wheel chair at 100 years old. i think ian is still so very talented and very sexy. he makes me melt like butter. his eyes hmmm his tight jeans hmm. thats the trouble with time the older you get the faster it goes.. dont ya wish there was a way to slow it down huh.
Sweetsusan, I am afraid that Peter Pindar is absolutely right. Even with nice eyes and tight jeans Ian Anderson is clearly past it from a touring point of view. It's like the Emporer's New Clothes, everyone says he still sounds great but in reality we are witnessing a very painful and long drawn out decline of a once brilliant rock star. Here's hoping for retirement soon!!
God help us! This is just too dreadful to watch. In his day Ian Anderson was simply the greatest and most original performer on the planet. Now look at him. I feel that he should have retired soon after his voice went back in 1984 and saved us from so much regret and heartache as we witness his ongoing sad decline.
I saw Tull about 10 years ago, and Ians vocals were pretty rough. But, it was tull, I was 20, and it was great. Plus, I got to meet Ian and the boys, I got their autographs. It was a memorable day afterall.
So this is Jethro Tull 2007 style. How extremely sad to see how dismal they have become. It would have been better if Ian Anderson had retired or died in around 1983. Then we would have been spared this slow and embarrassing lingering death of a once fabulous band. A New day readers will lap this performance up but the true Jethro Tull fans of this world know it's shit.
You make some good points John but to wish that Ian had died in 1983 is a disgraceful comment to make. Your comments are usually intelligent and interesting, but I can't endorse what you're saying here.
I'm sorry about the dying bit canley1. At the time I'd been listening to some particularly bad bits of Under Wraps and it sent me into a sort of rage. Next thing I knew I'd written that comment. If only I could turn back time.
nt - I agree with you (partly!). JT is one of the greatest rock bands ever. I have all their early albums, and saw them several times in the early 70's. I worshipped this group! Unfortunately, it's these same great memories that make this clip so pathetic. They appear to be mere ghosts of what they were, obviously hanging on to make a few bucks. They are indeed "too old to rock n' roll"!
By the way, I checked some of your videos. They are quite good. Keep it up!
Yes you saw them several times in 70's and those who didn't, cause they were not even born by that time, have a chance to see them now.. They are living legends, and it's a bless to see their live now, even if some think that they are too old for rock n roll!
Fair enough. I realize there are many fans who are very familiar with JT and consider them legends and are happy they're still playing. However, for those who are just learning about them, and want to be excited about their music, I would steer them far away from this clip.
I am afraid niqeqt that whisky2roxy is telling the absolute truth. I would bet that he knows his Jethro Tull extremely well as indeed I do. Ian Anderson is in my opinion making an absolute fool of himself by still carrying on performing when his voice is so obviously beyond saving. Everyone thinks he sounds dreadful but very few people dare to admit it. Thank you Ian for all your fabulous earlier albums but please please call it a day before you start to look and sound even worse.
whisky2roxy, so good to hear someone telling the truth for a change. I consider myself a professional Jethro Tull fan but since as far back as 1984 I've realised that things just haven't been right with Ian's voice and some of the un-Tull type musicians he has worked with. We suffer these days with a very polite music press. It's time they got tougher and rightly slated Ian's latest performances.
I must admit it is difficult being a long-time rock fan. It's disheartening seeing some of the great bands, once creative and relevant, now relegated to "oldies" concerts. However, with other bands that hang on like the Stones and Zeppelin, as terrible as they are now compared to their prime, at least they aren't the shameless embarrassment that Tull has become.
You're both right. Ian has got more talent in his thumb than the rest of us,but, he is well past his sell by date now as far as fronting Tull goes; it's time he took a break from touring: maybe if he cut down the number of gigs to help his voice?
Good heavens Jethro Tull are absolutely crap these days! This is a great example of how to look and sound an idiot as a result of carrying a band on too long. Hang up your flute and concentrate on your Salmon Ian!
Hey, shut your mouth. If you don't have a good comment then don't put it. No one cares about your worthless opinions, They sound great. You are expecting to see loud and tasteless music then go see a newer band.
This is a totally unflattering recording. It's true that his voice has lost a lot of its former strength, but check out the Live at Montreux 2003 DVD and I think you'll agree that they are still quite an amazing band. Also, the best concert I've ever been to was of them in 2004.
They are obviously older now, get over it you twits. What do you expect? Him to act like Britney Spears? You fools, he is still pushing on and sounds musically as good as he ever did.
Ian also scores some hot chicks to play with him. Not only are they beautiful, they can play beautifully as well. Its great, and anyone who says any different is a jackass.
Why should he retire if people still enjoy seeing him perform? I was at a their concert last year and it was awesome. He puts on a great show, he gives a 100% of himself and the energy of his performance really comes through. Ian Anderson is still very entertaining.
Spare us your worthless critique. He sounds great for his age and what he has been through and musically he is at his best as well as the band. I saw then live last year, they were great. And you don't know jackshit, so shut up please. Know one cares what you have to say at all.
You care what I say as you would appear to be in a rage. Now let's get this straight, Jethro Tull have lost the plot and this is their worst ever line up and Ian's voice is in its worst ever condition. Here endeth the lesson.
This is just dreadful! It's like the 'Emperor's New Clothes'. When will people stop kidding themselves and accept that Ian Anderson's voice is so shot to pieces that he should no longer be performing in public. Wake up and smell the coffee!!!!
They just dont have the same go as they have done , maybe they are living in the past themselves and maybe should call it a day, as lets face it they aint made a great album that really rocks, i mean proper rocks in years.
I went to see them when they revisited the aqualung album, went to see it in London, and Dont get me wrong it was a great gig, But the tunes didnt have the conviction and the religious spite of the original
Ian has been struggling off and on with his voice since he had the throat problem that made him stop for a couple of years back in the mid 80s. I was on the front row of the Sprinfield, IL show and noticed Ian struggling some, but this night was the last of several nights in a row. Struggling voice or not, I see Tull everytime they come around and have never been disappointed.

That's fair enough John, and big of you to say so. Listening to 'Under Wraps' has had that effect on many Tull fans!!
But your comment about Ian retiring I agree with, Dave Pegg said exactly the same thing about Ian when he quit Tull in 1995.
Ian should sit back and enjoy his legacy as one of Britain's greatest Rock musicians.
