well done, gave me a couple of ideas to play around with. The other covers Ive seen on here looked incredibly.... emotionless; have no idea how that can happen when covering this song... but .... on the other hand: top stuff man
@Deadinagrave you're right. a lot of recordings are like that. overdubbing is king. since it's just a man and his guitar, it's important to have the core sound of the entire song happening.
this lesson is about playing the song and not just the guitar "part"
Haha, I was improvising this song one time! We play it almost exactly the same.. Cool! I notice that you also play the bass tabs, like at 1:19, which is maybe the greatest parts in the song.
Not bad, but there's ONE wrong note that's bugging me. The 16th note of the intro (which you play at the end) should be an F, but I believe you play an open E. Unfortunately, that changes everything since you need another finger there. Just thought I'd let you know. Thanks for the video.
@BortPlate can you pinpoint the timestamp because i don't know what you mean by 16th note of the intro ? like 1,2,3,4,....th note of the intro chords (Dm/F6/E7/Bb7/A7)??
@jazzermonk Sorry, I'm not very good at explaining music theory. I was referring to the last note @ 5:47. I've been bridging the first three strings with the index finger to make it work.
@realderekbrothers i don't know what "to move on" means is your sentence but the faces thing is just how some people play. either you're a stoneface or a "make faces" guy. When i play my brain is basically off so i don't control what faces i make ... they usually reflect what i'm playing but it doesn't have to do with being hard.
you should change your title to (she's so heavy) by the Eric Gales band, because your version alot more like his!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (which I prefer over the beatles)sounds good!
i like my way of playing it a little better. i start the first "i want you's" with a clean twangy sound and phrase around a little. i also lay off on the 4ths for that part. then when you switch to the next verse at :59, i switch my amp to the dirty channel, and then start adding 4ths to the "you" part. then switch to the first channel when it goes back to the first verse. it makes it sound WAY more blues styled. you should try it. mix it up a bit. good job btw :)
what kind of distortion box... i'm using the gain on my little practice amp
.... to get that sound i would put all the eq flat (on 5 or middle) and start with the gain knob all the way down.... turn up the volume on you're guitar to the max and get a good level volume wise on your amp. Then start inching up the gain/distortion knob . That way it'll sound more like you're overdriving the amp rather than going through a pedal.
@jazzermonk so true! i have heard people play really good but they still sucked because they didnt play what they feel.its all about feeling and soul.
tabs are a crutch that are usually wrong anyway... use your ears (they don't lie) ... start by hearing the lowest note and figuring out the chord movement ... you've got a youtube advantage (even if the eyes can play tricks on you)
@iluvtwi you have to use your ear for this ... but its just on the G D and A string slide into the D string on the 7th fret .... then you use your first and third finger in alternating patterns ... its more confusing to explain it than it is to sound it out. Start where i just said then go from there... it goes higher than lower.
I've been wanting to learn how to play this song for a very long time but just couldn't get it right, even after checking out countless tabs. I've by no means mastered it, but this video has been a huge help. Thanks man, that's a beautiful guitar too :)
3:05 you move up the 4th- wouldnt it be easier to play that melody starting on the 3rd string and not move up and used CAGED to find that equivanet chord there?

This was very helpful thanks.. A few questons..
3:05 you move up the 4th- wouldnt it be easier to play that melody starting on the 3rd string and not move up and used CAGED to find that equivanet chord there?
3:25 what would those 3 passing chords be? I think that would sound cool..
3:33 what chord IS "this chord"? I cant see the position/ Dm add 9? I just play Dm on the nut there, but yours sounds better..
5:20 that doesnt look like an E7 Im lost here
5:30 lost me here
Thanks dude !
malabarspyder 2 years ago
thanks... the move up to the 4th is necessary because i'm using the 3rd and 2nd string for the melody (i didn't play it at 3:05 because i was demonstrating the melody note and not the melody/harmony part) at 3:25 i'm sure if you were to make those 3 notes power chords it would sound fuller ... but i usually just play the note
3:33 is an E7b9 chord ... on the 5,4,3,2 strings ... it would be the 7,6,7,6th fret
jazzermonk 2 years ago
at 5:20 its an E7 chord without the bottom 2 strings ... so on the 4,3,2,1 strings it would be 2,1,3,0 fret
at 5:30 it's just a Bb7 to an A7 chord ... notice how i keep my fingers in the same position but just move it down a half step. hope that helps
