  • daww... my baby victor used to do that, I love it when they nuzzle your finger when you tickle their heads :D also ratties have a weak spot just under the side of the cheek, they just love a scratch under the jaw <3

  • lol that rat is mad on yo...

  • from 0:04 to 0:18 i thought he as dead

  • Dude if i put my rat on her back she would not like it....i want a rat like that

  • i think its most baby rats are calm like that my mom said whenshe was out getting jelly bean she was laying like that and the other rats were running on her tummy

  • she is loving the tickles as she falls asleep

    very cute

  • that rat looks absolutly pertified!

feel sorry for the lil dude/dudette

  • if you think she's frightened of you, it's probably not in your best interest to keep flicking her. Especially on the face.

  • i miss taht so much!

  • Oh that is so cute! My rat, ironicly named Bloo Cheez, doesn't like it when I hold him like that, but he'll let me do just about any thing to him, aslong as its got food involved. He, oddly enough doesn't like other rats though. Can't stand them. The only rat he's ever liked was my friends rat, who saddly past away.

  • I had a wonderful pet rat who used to sleep like this one. She would climb into my lap, curl into a ball, and fall asleep. Then, I could pick her up and hold her like in the video while stroking her belly. She was the sweetest critter ever.

  • she doesnt look super calm...

  • i have 2 rats misty n maisy. I love them 2 bits but h8 what people say about them at school. it does my nut in! n guess what! they are all HAMSTER OWNERS! i think the r jealous that my rat can do trix but their hamsters cant X) i love you rat! what's he/she called! my rats hate lying on their backs but now really like baths! it's hillarious! (i only give them baths once a month) Love your rat!

    chow!

  • same, at school everyone it like WHY would you want a DISGUSTING rat. But the jokes on them coz whenever anyone comes to my house they all ways ask to see the rats and they are transformed from rat haters to rat lovers(or not really minders)

  • people at school say Oh i dont mind them i just HATEe there tails!, i love there tails there awesome :D :D :D

  • they are so trusting and affectionate from day one and far friendlier than hamsters and mice who just run and hide. they are like little dogs.xxx I LOVE rats!!

  • I have always tried to keep a pair of males together, and I usually have more then two. Some I have had to keep apart, but most of them tolerate each other execept for the occasional bite on each other. Never a bad bite, just an occasional nip or a minor bite that might break the skin. I've only had a few that did not tolerate anohter one in the cgae.

  • I dont understand why people always say its better to have two =S Ive had rats from a very young age, both in pairs and singles and the best pets have always been singles. The last pair I had fought and had to get seperated anyway.

  • Because they're social animals, like us, and keeping them alone is like keeping a human in solitary confinement, or with only a chimp for company for your whole life.

Social animals need interaction with their own species, just as we do.

Its cruel to keep a rat alone just because you want it to be more bonded to you.

Besdies which, I have 20 rats, and they are all absolutely in love with me. Its a total myth that a lone rat makes a better pet. A lone rat makes a depressed, frustrated pet.

  • 20 rats wow, thats got to be fun lol. Still, Whiskers and Oz (the rats Ive had alone) was/is a wonderful pet and never seem/ed depressed or frustrated. Basil and Rattagan, my first rats ever where more intereseted in playing with eachother then anyone else and Cocoa and Whisper used to fight when they where together so I had to split them up. Wonderful pets but hated eachother.

  • well of course the wouldn't seem depressed to you. If you only had 1 friend in the whole world. and you only saw then once a day for an hour(if your lucky) You would be really happy when your around them. But as soon of their gone you would be sad coz your all alone.

    Its just cruel and unnecessary

  • The only reason I didnt get 2 this time is because last tiem I had rats I did get a pair and I ended up splittling them up anyway because they fought, and they where brothers, been together since they where born.

  • well in that case (to fallenangelbex) they were probably only play fighting like normal rats do. there is no excuse for rats not to be kept in at least pairs unless there is severe aggression involved with alot of blood

  • It definately wasnt play fighting, Cocoa always had deep bite marks around his throat and when I caught them fighting Whispa was latched onto his throat until Cocoa retaliated. Pretty traumatic to a 13 year old. Oz (my current rat) I considered getting a partner for (he was the only one there when I bought him) but I was nervous theyd fight. Hes far to old for me to get him a friend now anyway.

  • HOW do you get your rats to do that? my rats HATE being on their backs :(

  • same here

  • Some rats get certain genes in their family that make them have funny quirks like that. All my rats love lying on their backs. They all also makes use of rat wheels, which not many rats do (Of course that doesn't mean they don't get to run around outside of their cages. The wheel just keeps them busy at night.). :)

  • She's alone??? You should have at least 2 of them!!!

  • if the other dies, after my expirience, its best not to get another

  • My two rats are never calm They always move around so much.

  • Hey!! what are you doing with her feet??!! I bet she don't like that...

  • Keep handling her and she won't be so afraid. Rats are very easy to tame. They love us. What a sweetie!

  • yes they do!

  • Whoah, I wish my rats would be as calm as that little one is :)

  • My new rat still isn't all that used to people and squeals and clicks her teeth when I try to pet her. Poor dear.

  • dont worry hun she is just getting used to you! when she sqeakes she probs dont want picking up my rat called mouse used to be fussy like that! but she will get used to you! just keep holding her! if she still effends it u have to forse picking her up!

  • Hi noticed you said you had a rat called mouse. me too.

  • i have a mouse branded logitech :p

  • thats not a baby! but hell it's cute :D

  • O to be a rattie-------!!! One of my little boys, Darrel, would lay like a blob & let me scritch him silly.

  • all my rats (boys) seem to panick when i hold them this way. How'd you do it?

  • this is probs u havent handled then enough or they will arnt used to you! dont worry they will in time

  • looks like its dead at 0:37 and ur trying to wake it

  • lolol

  • Rat make excellent pets!

  • help!

how do i convince my parents into buying rats???

reply to my comment if u have ideas

    thanks

    from rat lover

  • HI MATE

There are several websites with facts about rats, but i would advice you to get the "it's already in the house" tecnique, adopted by us pet lovers arround the world who still lives with our mom's and dad's

you go and buy a pet baby rat, it's about the size of a small hamster, tell them that it's an hamster or a gerbil, they will get affectionate to the rat, and when he grows up you just say "ohhh it was a rat after all"

  • That rat is []D [] []\/[] []D [] []\[]

  • Dude, your rat is freaking adorable man! I don't know how to say that without sounding gay, but whatever. Your rat's dope. I'm sure you take really good care of her for her to be so chill. Good job!

  • Are you sure it's not a stuffed rat? ;o)

  • Haha

  • Aww! That is so cute and funny how she is just laying in your hand, with a happy grin on her face and closed eyes!! Cute! :)

  • Well if you didn't wait a week to take her out of her cage she will be more timid in her life, So I read. In the books it says to wait a week to take a rat out of its cage because they should learn they're surroundings in the cage.

  • Nah, thats not true. It depends on the rat. Most rats, particularly those from good breeders or from rescue centers, which are the only places people should be getting them, are begging to come out and play as soon as they've been in the cage more than 10 minutes!

Rats are extremely intelligent. They are curious and eager to explore. They don't need to be stuck in a cage for a week. In fact, a rat needs an hour at least of out of cage time every day, so keeping them confined for a week aint good

  • Such a lovely baby, reminds me of my dog QQ

  • I can tell thats a female

  • How can people hate rats. they are the most adorable living creatures on this earth...i think our days people are worse vermin than rats are

  • Man.... will you marry me?

  • sure thing dude, consider yourself married with me , eh eh eh

  • LOL WTF, why did i say this??? I don't even remember saying "will you marry me?" !!!

  • possibly drunk :)

  • is she pregnant? I was just wonering b/ of the protruding belly

  • Cute video... that rat is definately very loved

  • "AAaaahhhhhhhhh,......!" what a pleased looking sweetie

  • gosh. it looks like you're hurting her. rats do lay o thier back and rest. but the way that she looks almost paralyzed and how her legs are sticking upso stiff shows that she's scared and VERY uncomfortable.

  • Yes the was a bit scared at the begining..., but the fact is that the came to my hands as an adult. Right now she's very playable and comes to search for food in my hands but she doesnt like to be hold up

  • Ok. I'm glad to hear that:]

  • I had a rat who did this. He was anything BUT scared. He was just a big, lazy, relaxed rat. Some rats are like this. A terrified rat, or one in pain, tends to bare its teeth, push its whiskers forward, its limbs go rigid. This rat is floppy, her eyes aren't wide and scared, she is perfectly relaxed. Stop over reacting.

  • when rats are on thier backs like this with thier eyes close is means they are extemely terrified and submissive! espesially with u squezing ehr so hard and tpping her so roughly like that its cruel! let her gain ur trust, dont force it on her!

  • Hi, i wasnt squeazing her, i was holding her, it may look like i'm "squeeeezing" tight but i am not :)

  • Yeah um try "super terrified baby rat"

  • Hehehe, yeah she was scared...

  • Shes sooo cute!!!

  • What a sweet and relaxed rat! One of a kind, I might say. Have you consider breeding her? She's reaaaaly trusting you which is awesome.

  • what a beautiful baby :))

  • my rat is so gentle and calm had a sister who we couldnt handle very much cos she was very viscous it the viscous one died b4 she was 1 of diabeities. and she seems happier without her. is it still cruel 4 her 2 b on hr own?

  • Well..., i think yes it is, Rats are one of the most sociable creatures in the world... they live in PACKS :) so i guess that a lonely rat would feel, sad...

Get her a Rattie to play with :) and a big CAGE ;)

  • how do u get your rat relaxed like that?

  • i dont know

  • She is sooo cute! My rat is very ticklish but loves getting scratched behind the ears.

  • I had a lone rat that would not go back in his cage and used to sleep on my head at night. :P

  • My longest living rats were 3 and 4 years old and they were lone rats (male and females respectively). So as long as you have the time for them, lone rats can be just as happy as a pair

  • This is not true. Rats need other rats. Its like expecting us to live with only chimps for company. There are some things only your own species can understand. We can't groom the rats, be with them 24 hours a day, play with them, communicate with them etc

  • Bull

Thats like saying a human can be just as happy living with a chimpanzee for company for his entire life and never meeting or being able to talk to his own species in his own language. Solitary confinement is used as a TORTURE in some places. Rats need other rats, that was pretty solidly decided upon by everyone who knows anything about rats about 10 years ago.

Why you'd wanna ignore the advice of people who know more than you, I have no idea.

  • Ummm, yeeeeah... it NEEDS companion. It will die from lonelyness if it doesn't have a rat friend of the same sex!!!!!! Pet rats need human attention, yes, but they CANNOT live on it, they need other rats! Pleeeeease get her a friend! You'd be cruel not to!!!!!!

  • hi, at this time i already got her a male rat :) she's lonely no more.

How i got a lonely female ferret, i need to get her a male!

  • Um, the male is neutered right?

If not, you're putting your female rat through a lot having to carry the multiple litters that will come from this combination.

  • is he neutered? if not, then you're being even crueler than not getting her a friend (SAME SEX or neutered) at all. you'd also be being even crueler to all of her babies that you'd be bringing into the world. I don't know all of the facts, but I'm just giving my opinion based on your vague statement.

  • Not a good idea to put her with a male unless he's fixed... or else you'll have lots of babies... and thats not good for her health to have too many litters... if you are going to breed her be prepared, and dont breed her after 8months old, for the first time and never more then 2 times in her lifetime...

I advice you to fix the male if your keeping her with a male

  • um, rats will not die from living alone. yes they are "happier" with other rats but half of the rats i ever had were the only rats in the cage and lived for 2 1/2 years. not ALL rats need other rats to be "happy"

  • yeah, they do. why get a pet when you know nothing about it? LOL it's mindless!

  • I've had rats 10 years, I've owned over 50 in my time. I have 20 now. I have no reason to lie about this: rats need other rats.

There are the very occasional one off which absolutely won't tolerate other rats, even with extensive properly performed intros, but they really are a rarity. I've owned perhaps 1 or 2 like this in my entire life.

Would you be happy spending your entire life alone? It bugs the shit out of me that people are still ignorant about this.

  • What a cute rat i love it

  • how many rat you got?

  • two

  • You've definitely done something right raising that little one. Not a bit of fear. :)

  • hey my hamster did the same too =)

  • I loved that baby rat.. He looks like he's enjoying a snuggle. Such a cool, collective little boy! I also know they love affections too. :-) Hiya!!!!

  • hi, thanks for your comment, you are very nice :)

I Got lots of other animals too. i might add more to youtube

  • aww thank you. You are sweet too! I love your video too! I encourage you to post some more of your companions onto you tube.. take care!

  • Make sure you get her another female rat as a cagemate. Rats do much better in groups than singly.

  • i'm trying to get one yeah :)

  • nice lol he even looks like the rat in that vid

  • Totally sweet rattie! Love it!

  • He he he muito fixolas =)
