@Beforeyouandme Yeah, they've certainly changed a lot. But, The Cure changed a lot too, didn't they? I really the fact that they're trying new sounds, it shows how much they've grown as a band.
Yeah....I like this. It's good. Singer looks like Ian McCulloch out of Echo and Bunnymen. British music is best anyway. Way better than Aussie music. How can you write deep and meaningful songs under a palm tree on a beach. Rain and gloom mean you're inside rehearsing and writing. I mean, the Smiths could never have come from fucking Sydney, could they?
@DMORLEY96 lol, latitude... try going to a decent festival... like T in the Park, where these guys are hardly worth mentioning. No disrespect to the band tho... they are fantastic :D and I will most certainly be seeing them at TITP 2012!
@tisjeboyaelwyn people like to make connections because if there is no relation to anything else it takes a lot more for people to accept them as good, but if they can relate them to something they like its easier for them to like, human psyche and all
@SuperQweertyuiop i'm sorry maybe it's just my ears but MGMT sound absolutely nothing like arcade fire. MGMT sounds similar to foster the people, M83 (a bit), crystal castles, phoenix, passion pit, the naked and famous.. they all have a synthy feel. arcade fire sounds way more organic.
@midnitehghway My point still stands - There just isn't enough creativity in Indie music these days. It's grown stale. It's less about 'what you sound like' and more about 'what you look like'; just bands following trends about how to look and how to sound.
great song very cool band . does anyone know how to get a hold of the band i want to use this song for a film i am making .. let me know. if u know them ..
Based on the British Music Press's 5 star extravaganza for this record, I was expecting a musical revolution. This sounds a lot like Psychedelic Furs. Chalk this up to press overhype. It's a fine tune, but not the second coming of rock and roll.

Hello everybody we are Hope For Happiness a Pop/Rock/Cold wave band from France and fan of The Horrors, who'd like to share his passion and music. If someone would have the heart just to give this a thumbs up and spend all of 30 seconds watching a vid it would mean the world. Thank you all.
I was talking to Mr Horror on the phone earlier and I mentioned this to him. He was silent for a bit and then just hung up. I don't know what that means, but I know what it sounds like.
@jewsarenotcool You can, it's just impressive. Anyway back to your original comment that I'm not worth my salt: Can you explain how a degree in sound engineering qualifies you as a musician worth his salt?
@petetheweet I didn't have a gap year. My comment was using your words to show my opinion of you being wrong. The End has no structure. The Horrors are hipsters so any effect they have on their video is because they wanted to make it look vintage, rather than like agent orange in Apocalypse Now. I cant hear the harmonic similarities at all. Nether can my father. The vocals sound similar.
@jewsarenotcool This is where a masters in music might come in handy for you. Try not to think of my statement about the harmonic similarities in a broad sense, rather more like infrequent interactions between the chords and vocals that loosely resemble those of The End. You know when you hear Don't Look Back In Anger and think "that sounds like Pachabel's Canon"? Kind of like that, only not to do with chords.
@petetheweet Sound Engineering*. I don't hear any infrequent chords in Still life at all. Seriously, its as if you have not even heard The End. The vocals sound similar. The dynamics are different and the duration is very different. Two pieces of serialism are more alike then these two songs. And serialism is random but just has rules applied to it. And I don't think what you thing with Cannon either.
@LeBuav What an interesting opinion from an 18 year old who can drive and makes the odd movie now and then. My comment has 55 thumbs up, so statistically that isolates you. My advice, young one, is to open your ears to possibilities instead of instantly debasing them at the whim of your raging, pubescent hormones. Now piss off.
@LeBuav it's called interpretation; understanding what something means to you, so of course it's not going to be the same as someone else's opinion. Art is subjective - it means different things to different people - clearly the references listed by @petethetweet mean something to 55 people
@petetheweet How can you say such an outrageous thing? The singer sounds nothing like Morrison, and the guitar riff sounds nothing! like the end. If Jim were still here, he'd actually punch you.
@JackWMS14 That's the hard part. LOL. The only reason I found this song is because I follow Gwyneth Paltrow's site goop.com and they make playlists every month. If you have any suggestions I'd love to know them! :-)
@TheLRC23 Mainly the genres Shoegaze and Dream-pop cover this style, although they are often more chilled out than the Horrors, they have a more punk influence to their stuff than most of these bands but I can suggest: My Bloody Valentine (Loveless), Ride, Spiritualized, Slowdive, Atlas Sound, Boards of Canada, Jesus & Mary Chain, Pail Saints, Lush and some stuff by The Verve even.
@JackWMS14 "Bittersweet Symphony" is one of my favorites. The music in that song is like a drug to me. I've never heard of most of those bands you named but I will definitely give them a listen. I'm always on the hunt for new music since I don't listen to the radio. Thank you!!!! :-)
@TheLRC23 Yeah, that's their big track of their big album (which is fantastic I must say), but some of their other stuff is quite psychedelic and dream like. I realise that list a gave you might be a bit daunting so I'll suggest 3 albums that are really worth listening to:
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless.
Spiritualized - Lazer Guided Melodies
Boards of Canada - Campfire headpahse (more electronic but very chilled.)
Those three records are a must for a fan of beautiful music, they are all lovely!
80s are coming back and that is so effing cool :) Just listen to what alternative bands are doing lately, it has new wave and post-punk written all over.
@abbotskerswellpostie So what if it sounds like other bands? It's still a good song. And why does something have to be original to be good? It's probably impossible to write something now without it being influenced by someone else.

Singer sounds like Jim Morrison of The Doors
The glitchy guitar riff resembles "The End" by The Doors.
"The End" was used in the film Apocalypse Now.
The introductory footage of the sun in this video closely resembles the cover of the Apocalypse Now DVD.
Any musician worth his salt should recognise the harmonic similarities between this song and The End.
The last line in Apocalypse Now was "The horror... The horror..."
This song is the culmination of one band's tribute to their favourite film.
