Ford Prefect - The Pangalactic Hobo. Ford Prefect is not a Hobo, he is a reporter for Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy--the company that produces Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. It is that Ford Prefect had a falling out with the company, and went and rigged their financial computer (cannot be fired), and still gets paid; the company is still trying to get their credit card back; and he still writes for freebies, such as beer, room, lodging, get your little thing published in the Guide.
Ah Douglas adams, his works lifted me from a deep dark depression "life don't talk to me about life" and gave me such great escape from the utter bilge water of dull that is Woking and gave me my first taste of the random and pointless quest, the impetus to get excited about doctor who and most crucially the name "farsh-nuke" which was my name on h2g2
new adventures... in style !!! future's Chaplin who's an alien. its Fantastic desolate hole !!! brand new tales and journeys... maybe tomorrow... until tomorrow... =) =) =)
it means after this, things can only get better... hopefully... probability? ask Marvin, but you wouldn't like the answer...
@APsScrapandSalvage Yes, Ford chose that name hoping to be inconspicuous after not doing enough research about earth. In the recent movie it said he had mistaken cars as the dominant life form.
When I read the books, this is who I think of as Ford in my head. Even when I'm listening to the radio series (where he's played by Geoffrey McGivern, the original Ford) I still imagine David Dixon there, just with a different voice.
Honestly David Dixon IS Ford Prefect. Btw I love this son and it was a perfect choice to use for this vid. When I finally get to do a Ford costume I will definately have this song playing somewhere somehow.
i was dubious about mos def but really i ended up likeing the new movie as much as the old series. I thought it was cool to see adam's books brought to life with the ultramodern effects, but going back theres something way more otherworldly about the sets and aliens of the series.
They came out with the sixth book because they found ideas for it on douglas' computer and Erin colfer wrote it. It's called " And Another Thing" I know your thinking, but everybody died! Well mabey they didn't, find out in And Another Thing By Erin Colfer. :D "Brain the size of a planet..." and plenty more Norse gods wanting to root out Zaphod Beeblebrox, our young adventure
Oh dear, I suppose I should really finish the 5th of the trilogy... if someone is actually creating the final segment to make it a double trilogy... Oh, but that was sweet. (the actual video I mean.) I miss Prefect...
Don't know - even at I think 60 or just over, he still looks great for his age and could play a good Doctor if he wanted to play the role.
Unfortunately, I think his height and age are a factor in the current version of the series - they seem to want good looking guys post the rougher looking (but yes, even handsome) Eccleston. :(
Not saying i dont mind Mcgann as the 8th Doctor, but in terms if that movie hadnt happened and the series continued with the bbc, he would have been perfect.
they have to come back...if they don't it'd be a whole 'nother series, not to mention that if there's more than one trillian there has to be another arthur, it is a plural Z section of the galaxy you know...i wonder if fenchurch comes back?
they all do. But the sixth book is coming out in october. Eoin Colfer is writing for Douglas Adams. Adams never got to finish the series before he died. So Colfer is finishing it for him, and from what is known so far, all the characters are coming back.
so we can only assume that they escaped from 'Stavromula Beta' ;o seriously though it must suck for people who haven't read the books to hear all of these spoilers. nonetheless, yay new book. Now we can call it the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy... double trilogy, or something
hey, idea, revamping the old text-based hitchhikers game into a point and click, in celebration of the 6th book o:
Gosh does everyone think mos def was really that horrible as Ford Prefect? I liked the movie version and yes Ive read the book. I mean it was still the same zany universe that we all love even if the movie wasnt the exact same as the book
I think Def was OK for the movie version (He's better than some ideas I had in his place when the movie was announced) - but he just seemed to make Ford more cowardly instead of the mix of debonair with the smile of a shark that puts you at unease and totally out of his mind on a pan-galactic gargleblaster. I know that's the writing, but he just fell a little flat for me compared to Dixon and McGivern (audio).
Ford is my second favorite character in the books. I was quite upset at how little his character mattered in the movie but it was pretty much an abortion of the series and ruined every character.
Douglas Adams worked on the film until he died the story was for the most part as he intended it to be. beside every reiteration of the series was given a changed plot by Douglas Adams himself.
Perfect title for this homage to the actor who brought the character to life. This production should have been the only one that was ever be made. Thanks for the tribute to the first pangalactic hobo! 5*
Oh man, David Dixon as Ford Prefect is such a cutie! I love everything about his portrayal. His excitable energy, his crazy blue eyes, and awesome wardrobe. I love the bit when he gets lifted off the ground by the body guard.

Have just watched the whole series, absolutely fantastic! And i have you to thank because as i said this video made me want to watch it. Thankyou, so much! This vid is wicked!
The remake has nothing on the original BBC production! I have it on vhs, need to get it on dvd! The only thing I liked about the remake was the cameo appearance of the original BBC Marvin the paranoid android.
Wow! Thats made me want to watch the series now, because up until now i have only seen the new film! Thanks for this! Does anyone know who played Ford Prefect in this series?
Ford was played by David Dixon. scifigroup has the series up on youtube. If you watch it look for Peter Davidson (The Fifth Doctor) he plays "the meal of the day" in one episode lol. And his wife (Sandra Dickinson) plays Trillian.
This is great.
