Wow! He taps! At least Krieger improved unlike Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, sadly...Jimmy Page, and a lot more. I never liked the doors that much but I give props to Krieger for keeping up with the times.
He started off playing with his damn fingers, rhythm and lead, not many guitarists can do that. He's not the greatest guitarist to have ever walked the earth, because there is way too many, but he is definetely up there in my book with Zakk Wylde, Jerry Cantrell, and Randy Rhoads. If you want to hear a kickass live version of Crawling King Snake look up "crawling king snake live new york." Think it's my favorite solo by Robby, sounds like the earliest form of "metal."
Sure, there's better guitarist's than Robby, but in my opinion he isnt just as good as some ordinary guitarist. I think he's better today than he was back then.
Well, he has his own sound which is really hard to do. I mean his bends are kinda different, nobody does his kinda bends. People are strange is a good example. try to play that lead part. pretty different. very "out there".
Krieger isn't underrated. During his stay with the original lineup he wasn't great with solos he was just a pretty good rhythm guitarist and mediocre lead. Compared to some of the greats he is shit, but for the Doors he was a great fit. The Doors didn't need a Hendrix or anything. The Whole was much greater than the sum of the parts and together the 4 of them made the greatest live band in the world if Jim was good for that night.
i disgaree, krieger could project feelings that were of pure guitar ecstacy, and developed a blues sound no other could match,to say hes a mediocre lead is quite an ignorant statement,i assume the greats are hendrix, rhodes, may, and the ilk
Fuck you ignorant. I've listened to every studio album and just about every live album and bootleg there is, he was a mediocre lead! His improvs were good not great and primarily because Manzarek and densmore were backing him up, he was not amazing by any means, to say that no one could match him is pretty rediculous. He started to get better around '70 and now he's quite good but like I originaly said during his stint with the original lineup he wasn't that great and certainly not underrated.
@LibertyAndJustice91 I have to disagree some of his live solos like anything off of Live in Detroit (Backdoor man, Five to one, been down so long, Roadhouse blue)
are really impressive and sound great. I would put those solos right up there with hendrix and Page any day.
The Doors have Undergone SO Many changes, It's not even Funny. The Doors w/ Jim, The Doors w/out Jim, The Doors (w/ Ian), D21C, Riders on The Storm... Just to name a Few. Good God! They are THE most Legendary Group of All time, And will Always be!
I've always thought The Doors (One of my favorite groups) aren't the BEST rock group ever (Don't get me wrong, they are still an amazing group) but they are the most legendary, with the most 'lore' behind them.
it sure was a great evening! the band was tight and full of energy, it was a long set and the break in the middle was good, too. my first rots concert in the frontrow, amazing! from now on it will only be frontrow, frontrow, frontrow, lol
Lovely to see some of your stuff. We were also on the front row that night (centre) - and got a set-list, a touch of Brett Scallion's hand, (a touch of his leg too!!), a wink of recognition off Ray and a smile off Robby. We follow them all over the place and met them in Wolverhampton last January. Stayed in Jim's Room that night too (Hotel de Medicis). Well weird - and we honestly are not LSD freaks as someone posted! It was a brilliant night wasn't it?
Sadly I don't, my camera can only make movies of 40 seconds at a time :-( and by the end of the show I ran out of capacity. But what a great concert it was!!!
Robby has solo´s cds wich plays jazz-fusion stuff..people¡¡ please listen some tracks. He´s a true musician and so under-rated guitar player

He's underrated, and im pretty much a big The Doors fan but thats random tapping just that it had a pattern.
But its still awesome to see a 60 year old blues / rock legend tap!
