Mount Athos is still an autonomous monastic state within the European Union. No tax, with secret banks of the monks. A great paradise, isolated, but strictly reserved for Eastern Orthodox Christians. Forbidden for Catholics normally. But they did receive German Army officers. And the Athos monks from Russia (Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia) had an icon of Adolf Hitler in their gallery. Interesting. It seems Hitler was welcomed as an Anti-Communist by these Russian monks.
These scenes with the portrait of Hiltler are from the Holy Monastery of Saint Panteliemon, the Russian monastery. The 40's were only a couple years after the repose of Saint Silouan who died in 1938.
