You really can't judge this movie unless you watch the entire thing. 3 hours long and it still seemed too short. It's incredibly difficult to fully develop around 10 main characters over the course of the movie but PTA did it. It's really a smart movie, I've seen it 3 times now and I walk away feeling different every time.

great film,I watched it about 5 times, but he is right about the music in it , it gets very hard to hear what the characters say beacause of the constant background music.

This movie was good, but it was so saturated with completely irrelevant blabber that watching it all the way was quite hard. And the whole first hour or so there was some random classic music in the back, it nearly ripped my nerves.

This movie had one of the greatest screenplays I've ever seen. I don't think anything during the 3+ hours was irrelevant.

There was so much going on in terms of the message the writer/director wanted to convey...just because he didn't come out and blatently say it every time a character spoke doesn't mean it's irrelevant.

Hmm yeah I tend to agree. I think there's almost nothing you could take out and have the movie still be as powerful. Maybe the beginning scenes with the narrator, but even that has a sort of tie to the rest of the film and gives us this narrative bridge that sets up the world we're going to enter.
