  • Some writers do it really well; some fail hard-core. Just like every POV, I guess. But it really is amazing when it works and when a real wit is in control of the narrative.

  • When someone asks if you're a god... SAY YES.

Lovely description of it. (I really hate writing it.)

  • I thought you'd appreciate that. ;)

I actually don't think I've ever written anything in Omniscient. I mean, I might have on accident in fourth grade or something, but not since I've been conscious of the effort to write a story and tell it well. I think that's because so much of stories for me have to do with the interior. And while I know that that can certainly be done in Omniscient, it just always seemed awkward to me.

  • I greatly prefer the character insight that comes from 3rd person limited. I love how there's so much character building just off how the character describes something. It's just... economical. I like my writing to be efficient.

  • Ha. I just got the sudden image of having James describe the good doctor's house and not Derek. ;)

  • ... James would be wondering what everything is and biting his tongue to keep from asking lest Derek glare at him.

But that's the exact reason I love 3rd person limited. So. Much. Character building! \o/

  • Douglas Adams = God. How can that be a more perfect statement? :)

I think it's a constant struggle for writers to omit information. Or at least to tailor down the tangents that come up. I have a hard time with this, hence I don't write in 3P Omniscient.

  • I love Douglas Adams!

I know it's a constant struggle for ME to omit information. I constantly have to ask myself if I'm giving a detail that matters. I get caught up in details very easily.
