Great video. I just started working with Doug Moore and he has said that he would love to return to Singapore. I think we missed out on the opportunity at Woodlands, but we will be keeping our eyes open for future openings.
I was at the shah alam stadium with my brother and dad, watching the final. I remember that half of that stadium was filled with Singaporeans and to go there to grab a win was truly fantastic. Miss those good ole days.
i remembered hearing the news that someone in malaysia died of heart attack (may he RIP) when singapore scored the 1st goal. that was how intense the game was those days !!
Arliana was 14?? Well, I thought she was 12. I was in P6. She was in P6 of Beng Wan Primary in 1994. Was not in the same primary school with her but we were all waiting for our PSLE results when the accident happened. I went to her funeral with other heartbroken friends. We were just 12...Will never forget 1994 for so many reasons. :(
I was 14 back then. The final at Merdeka stadium against kedah was bad memory that I turned down my dad's offer to go to shah alam. But nevertheless, this clip will always bring joyful tears..
I was 6 n I still rmb watching the mleague on tv :) miss the die hard lions days I even had poster of them on my wall . Nowadays I only see girls who go gaga over some player have the team poster ... Bring back the roar
Those were the times when we can relate to each players in our team.....Heck we even knew most of the Malaysian states players....Hopefully the return of the lions to the Malaysia Cup will rekindle my passion again for the Lions. This is good so the younger generations can at least feel the experience a bit of what had been missing in Singapore soccer.
i mayb 23 yrs old. but i managed to attend 1 match during the mleague days. singapore vs kedah. was v young back then but rmembrd seeing fandi scored. yeah those past glory days of singapore football will definitely b missed
If only they never grew old. Fast forward 17 years and what we have is a sad bunch of underpaid, zero commitment, zero teamwork, honourless players who called themselves national players. how I wish we had this team now.
5 star performance. I was at Shah Alam for the final & I can still feel the cheers, jubilation till today the eruption of S'pore fans when the goals were scored. Man, nothing beats the triumph of 1994 M'sia League & Cup final.
We malaysian also miss the old Malaysian League, ya know, Kallang Roar. Gosh, missing the good old days...Fandi Ahmad, the late Borhan Abu Samah, David Lee.....the best ever!!!
With the recent 'school boys' showmanship by the Lions at the Suzuki Cup 2010 and the unbelievable result of the Young Lions losing to India in the Asian Games, Singapore soccer is in deep shit. Sad to say but it seems that way.
this is when our players played for the nation's pride n honor.... dats why they were so good...... now our players go for the glamour only..... even wif the foreign players, they can nvr be as good as our 1994 team......

goodness! Abbas and Fandi are the reason why i started to kick balls around. still remember the times when my families decided to hop on the big lorry together with my neighbours and watched the dream team at kallang! tore old newspapers into small pieces and toss them in the air whenever Singapore scored a goal.. Those were the days.......
the year Spore football really flourish...no nonsense football unlike now..the players back then aren't attitude as they are now...how I wish we still have these gentle giants in our Spore squad again...
Creation of S league is more of a gain for S'pore Pools. It only entice gamblers instead...It's like my Blk vs your Blk...What is so interesting in that...
COme on guys....dun be like that...while Yes i do admit that the current national squad is full of foreigners...but....the under 23 squad and the YOG squad...the future of Singapore National Team...is all true blue Singaporean(apart from that Agu Casmir who shd be dropped!)....I've seen them(under 23) in action when they met Burnley last week....and yup...they did played well...although lost to an EPL team...but they did played well....SO...there maybe a slight hope for Singapore Football...
I was there at SHAH ALAM ! Was the best final. Especially when the goals start coming. We didn't even have time to SIT... jumping and cheering all the way !
My uncle beside me who had heart problems had his pills at his hands just in case th excitement got too much !
we only had 1 team in the msia league but boy was it a good team. look at the sleague? its full of rubbish half baked foreign imports that 99% of our nation doesnt care about, unlike abbas n jangjung who played their butts of for us. We qualified for the 2nd round of the WCQ cos of a change in format not cos we improved.
maybe someone should bring back Malaysia Cup again.. I was in my early teens during these time.. I remember taking bus no. 30 from Jurong.. to Kallang Stadium!! The good all days!
Its somewhat strange for me though......Singapore Finally won and it was also the end of the Malaysia Cup competition in Singapore......and most painful for me - V Sundramoorthy was dropped from the National Squad........hmmmmmm
Well..Singapore finally won and then Malaysia Cup series was over too - for good. And of course most painful for me was when Soccer Star V Sundramoorthy was dropped from the team.
For Me, the Late Mokhtar Dahari of Selangor & Singapore's V Sundramoorthy are the 2 best players of all times......same in the leagues of Dollah Kassim & Quah Kim Song.....
anybody still remembers the song "come on everybody, feel the power, and feel the steam of the dream team...." the song came out in 1993 sung by our lions
I have and always believe that with just our local lads and with a good and experienced coach to guide us we can play among the big boys of the world we simply do it the sambal way.
I was there at Shah Alam, Pahang was a letdown, wish it was Kedah in d final b'coz it will be good fight & a chance for us 2 make up 4 e loss we had in e 2 finals we played them.
Kedah fans were simply marvellous when we played them, friendly, sporting & vociferous, I know coz I sat with them along with some die hard singapore fans.
not even the gov (or any other current local sport) can ever rally such die-hard support, loyalty, commitment and importantly, unity from its citizens. we were truly as one united people regardless of race, language and/or religion! bring back the glory!
I'm a Malaysian and i agree with you, I used to watch, alister edwards, fandi and etc before.. it was rally nice seeing singapore playing here.. Darmnn i miss those days.. The crowd was like awsome.. who know one day we might Join teams again..
How i wish singapore could be in the mleague again. It's the rivalry between singapore and the malaysian states that brought all the excitement. Look at s league... boring man. not much rivalry, no crowd atmosphere., And i hate ppl telling me that im still living in the past. Perhaps these ppl just dun understand or didnt get to experience the soccer fever of the past.
@bazook77 And it's not just that, the quality of football was higher than it is now. I get chills thinking about it because we had a group of players who were brilliant. My teacher said that he saw Fandi and Sundramurthy in the flesh and they were easily european class players.
@bazook77 i think only those who had experienced the MLeague and the atmosphere of kallang wud noe that the atmosphere of sleague is nothing compared to the mleague.....the rivalry is so clear....
fuck tup Sleague..No use man making Sleague..Ya usefull for gamblers i think..Really..Singapore is going hay wire now..Too much foreigner even in national team!!..Wtf..Might as well dnt call singapore a cultural country..maybe in 10 yrs down the road..You'll see hmm 5 china players..5 pinoys..5 ang moh..5 niggers..and 1 singaporean..dielah dielah..
Fucking Hassan Miskam(2:18)!!! I blame him for our loss against the todaks in the 94 semis at shah alam... I think Alistair played better for us than for the todaks... nevertheless,ALISTAIR EDWARDS IS A LEGEND!!!! be it for johor, singapore or Selangor...
i miss the 90s- singapore then was populated by singaporeans - malay chinese indian eurasian all brothers together
now singapore got so many fucking cheena bastards and banglas - fucking hell i am considering migrating - singapore is prostituting herself to China thanks to our fucking PAP betrayers
those were the days.... how come the players then look so much better? they played with their hearts out and were not so fanciful as what we have now...
Hey you do know anything abt Fandi Ahmad. So Fuck Off. He is legend you know and even big clubs like AC Milan wants to bought him during that time. Read the history u idiot FUCK.
@malaikou Fandi was the best....and for yr info..he played for Inter Milan(scored the winning goal for them in a Champion's League Final...im not sure what year....he also played for FC Gronigen...and even Ajax and Barcelona wanted to buy him at that time...but being a homely guy...he choose to play in Indonesia coz its closer to home.....He's the Best...the 1st ASIAN player to ever played in Europe....
weirdly, only during this golden period that i felt we are united as a nation, as Singaporeans. with the separation of singapore from the M'sia league serves as the biggest disappointment to the Singaporeans. Bring back the glory. Shd we start a petition to get Spore back into the league?
i was just like 6 and rmb the match laa, betwen Singapore and Pahang..wahaha.we roxx.. and pple please reply in english Singapore multi-racial .. hahaha
sick n tired of 'malaysia better than spore, spore better than malaysia' shoutouts. enuff of tht sh*t. we r proud no matter who succeed. having said tht, i miss the m'sia league/cup days. remembered tht our natural rivals were johor n i miss going to the singapore/johor derby matches. altho selangor n sarawak were our bitter rivals too..esp during the m'sia cup. fav opponents? brunei of coz..they were the whipping boys of the league. we always get 6points every season!
liga malaysia mungkin bertambah meriah kalau singapore joint semula dalam liga malaysia , mungkin masa tu ada 4 pasukan menjadi pasukan terhebat , singapore , kedah , selangor & perak. saaingan sengit ni
Why Singapore is no more in the Malaysian League or Cup? ... Anyway I thought the Young Lions was in Malaysia FA Cup and in Merdeka tournament, how many attended? ... I suggest Malaysian clubs play in S-League like the foreign clubs now, what are they Albriex Nigata? Sinchi?
I was here..seriously as a Malaysian i would love to have Singapore in the M-League.Selangor-Singapore is like Liverpool vs Manchester United.Ironically last time more than 60000 came to Shah Alam was Spore vs Selangor.
I like for Singapore to come back into the M'sia cup. I grew up in the 80s & 90s those were the golden days of M'sia cup. I remember the great rivalry especially the Singapore vs Selangor one, just like the Arsenal vs MU, pack stadium. Forget about the poor S-League, it lacks rich history of M'sia Cup.
I think.....if FAS and FAM agree to reinstate Spore back into the MCup and MLeague...Spore should send the team that beat Selangor in the Sultan Selangor Cup to represent Spore...not its national team...I think tat team alone can whack all the teams in the Mleague/Cup....HAHA..Selangor lost 3-1 to Singapore Selection....
import la player argntina, brzil, bole menang world cup..harap import..Cheehh,malu la,member thailand& indon aku pn ckp..tiada guna kalau separuh team org luar, negara lain import sorg je,bkn smpai enam! aku cabar la main 100% singaporean, xbole blah punye!!
The touching sight of Douglas Moore crying on the bench when we clinched the Double is still etched in my mind so many years later. Now that's passion for you. Not like the douchebag Ken Worden who abandoned the team early in the season believing (ironically) this team would never win anything.
Go to FC Gronigen website and see the history line-up list and there he is..Fandi Ahmad among the european names...weird but damn cool..his name was on the score sheet against Inter..woohoo..
having import players shows something..it shows that at least they dun haf to worry about getting ROBBED or MUGGED whenever they step onto singapore soil that much in comparison to going into malaysia where they could risk even getting killed? tsktsk..anyway at least in singapore is higher than malaysia in the fifa ranking..=D
I hate Singaporean football just as much as I hate satan. thats only because of the rivalry my father has brought me up to live.... but i still do want to see singapore back in the malaysian league. more fun. and for the last fucking time i pray they dont bloody match fix. ps: i have nothing against singapore- i love the girls
This match had a lot of Singaporeans booing the Malaysian team. Why are they all racist? A certain side's supporters booing another team shows complete immaturity. Look back at the 2002 world cup, look at the Korea's progress to the Semifinals. Their fans showed not even the slightest bit of respect for anyone not Korean.
Fandi Ahmad is one of the best in the world in his time. He had subliminal skills, and many of goals he scored are sheer class and beauty. Watching him play is like watching Michael Jordan in basketball. Everytime he had the ball under his feet, you would anticipate something magical was going to happen... I wish someone could upload soccer clips of Fandi Ahmad here for all to enjoy and to remember.

weirdly, only during this golden period that i felt we are united as a nation, as Singaporeans. with the separation of singapore from the M'sia league serves as the biggest disappointment to the Singaporeans. Bring back the glory. Shd we start a petition to get Spore back into the league?

sick n tired of 'malaysia better than spore, spore better than malaysia' shoutouts. enuff of tht sh*t. we r proud no matter who succeed. having said tht, i miss the m'sia league/cup days. remembered tht our natural rivals were johor n i miss going to the singapore/johor derby matches. altho selangor n sarawak were our bitter rivals too..esp during the m'sia cup. fav opponents? brunei of coz..they were the whipping boys of the league. we always get 6points every season!

Sinchi?

I was here..seriously as a Malaysian i would love to have Singapore in the M-League.Selangor-Singapore is like Liverpool vs Manchester United.Ironically last time more than 60000 came to Shah Alam was Spore vs Selangor.

during 70's to 80's player have passion for soccer now days singaporean player only plays half hearted no talents just kicking balls
lion4451 4 years ago 3
the standard of s league is much higher than that of the malaysia cup. It's just tat S-league is being played in a much smaller stadium.
bidbird 4 years ago
I like for Singapore to come back into the M'sia cup. I grew up in the 80s & 90s those were the golden days of M'sia cup. I remember the great rivalry especially the Singapore vs Selangor one, just like the Arsenal vs MU, pack stadium. Forget about the poor S-League, it lacks rich history of M'sia Cup.
azlanys 4 years ago
I think.....if FAS and FAM agree to reinstate Spore back into the MCup and MLeague...Spore should send the team that beat Selangor in the Sultan Selangor Cup to represent Spore...not its national team...I think tat team alone can whack all the teams in the Mleague/Cup....HAHA..Selangor lost 3-1 to Singapore Selection....

The touching sight of Douglas Moore crying on the bench when we clinched the Double is still etched in my mind so many years later. Now that's passion for you. Not like the douchebag Ken Worden who abandoned the team early in the season believing (ironically) this team would never win anything.

having import players shows something..it shows that at least they dun haf to worry about getting ROBBED or MUGGED whenever they step onto singapore soil that much in comparison to going into malaysia where they could risk even getting killed? tsktsk..anyway at least in singapore is higher than malaysia in the fifa ranking..=D
