  • In 2002 Meshuggah did Nothing

  • this isn't even math metal anyway, the whole song is in 4/4 just like pretty much all their songs.

  • @SunFlightx What's "math metal"?

  • @dujl like its for people who like metal and love math lol jk bands like Dillinger escape plan another one those crazy sub genres.

  • @KoRnownsyou Actually, "math metal" is not a correct denomination.

  • @dujl eh if people know what bands you're referring to then its a valid description in my book.

  • @dujl Everyone playing to very specific beat metrics which are 'syncopated' (ie intervals between chords/notes shortened) and overlaid to create a statistical density of sound - there is no improvization as in jazz or blues and everyone sticks tightly/mathematically to the beat. With Meshuggah, only Thordendal's solos are free of the 'math' element, arguably also Jens' vocals - but the others are mathematically repeating themselves. But is there any music without math? Discuss!

  • @strav12 What are you responding to?

  • @SunFlightx It's about the syncopation and the intersecting rhythms (not necessarily poly-rhythms but along the lines of them in essence), not about the time signature. And they're not trying to stick to a genre, they play what comes out of their HEARTZ OMG <3

  • I love how they made the album cover the same face that their fans make when listening to Nothing for the first time.

  • I hate when my computer does that at 2:49

  • how you say in america....this song is sex

  • Another masterpiece. It took me two songs but i got into meshuggah and i am very happy about that. If u dont get it .. dont be a bitch. U HEAR ME!

  • I tried again and... I definitely don't like mathcore...

  • @LukosMelanos Yeah, I hate that crap.

  • @LukosMelanos Your entitled to your own opinion, but from a guitarists perspective its a ton of fun to play and when I listen to it it just always keeps me guessing and trying to figure out the time signatures and patterns in my head. It also keeps things interesting for me.

  • @sivad290 Well I remembered I was a dickhead in Mathematics class. That's why I can't understand I think XD

  • @LukosMelanos well yeah, not all of us can listen to the same type of music right.?that should make us different, and it's logical.but if u ask me math-metal is something new and fresh, and it's alot better than upcoming types of new wave and metal-core etc...

  • @LukosMelanos listen to meshuggah then, those guys are awesome!

  • @gothikgamer Well, it is the mathematic side I don't get, in fact :-/. I try sometimes but nothing. I am not convinced...

  • @LukosMelanos i didn't like them at first to, now i do. maybe you just don't like them, there's lots of musics i don't like xD

  • This song only plays for a second.

  • @DarqTalonAzel a perpetual black one at that.

  • This song makes me want to punch anything and everything that I see.

  • just bought a ticket to see meshuggah in london. psyched!

  • @harrydrewz April 20th? I'm going too and I can't fucking wait my friend...

  • @06KingDave going to be insane!

  • pretty good song rap is for fluffy people why are we discussing this.

  • the quality and bass are goood! *headbangs* fuck yeah!

  • @chaclapa Very awesome metal at that.

  • @chaclapa Everything about this is metal

  • @chaclapa Men please stop trolling to meshuggah videos!!!Find something else to do...

  • @chaclapa No. It's Mexican polka.

  • @chaclapa Go take cock in the face faggot

  • @chaclapa tell me what is metal to you and perhaps I can help you.

  • @chaclapa YES. It's beautiful metal.

  • @chaclapa there are over a hundred different type's of metal :)

  • @psychopathtoine Meh, but Meshuggah is Heavy Metal.

  • this band iz so ghey only pozuers lisen to this shyt

  • @chaclapa you are so dumb. stop trolling go listen to your rap crap and no you are the pouser

  • I love this and the previous version, and you wanna know why? THIS IS MESHUGGAH. Enough.

  • Vocals got ruined in the rerelease :( I loved the rawness of the original vocals. It was totally in your face and it was just wonderful...

  • eargasm

  • i felt like an army of bees stung me after 3:15

  • Polymeters ftw...

  • end is just badass. love this song..not this genre THIS SONG hmo

  • I've been a huge metal music fan since i was 12 and Meshuggah (to me at least) still seems one of the only bands in the extreme metal genre that can excite me. i don't like most bands anymore as i grow older...

  • It's a shame that their vocalist has to suck so much

  • @OurLucidDream519 Jens is one of the best singers in metal IMO. He leaves it all out there and really brings all the music together.

  • @OurLucidDream519 He's actually REALLY good. He picks each tone very carefully -- he's not just screaming. In a very subtle way, he actually carries a pitch. This particular song doesn't do a great job exemplifying this, but in certain other songs, like Corridor of Chameleons, you can really tell he's "singing" his screams.

  • @OurLucidDream519 i'll be honest, i thought the same at first. but once you get used to him he blends in so unbelievably well and adds so much to the sound. and he is actually extremely talented.

  • @OurLucidDream519 Strange, I can't think of a better one.

  • @OurLucidDream519 hahahah fuck you

  • @OurLucidDream519 its funny cause if you hear Jens' clean un growled vocals its like an opera singer

  • FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK YES

  • @dearpsychonaut truuuueee dat man. seen alive? all about le bass. its handy that he's also unreal.

  • 1:55 epic

  • i think the picture is moving

  • @DjentFoxProductions I do too. Trippy man \m/ :D

  • each song i listen to is groovier than the last

  • @Lugrashio

when i first got into Meshuggah I looked forward into hearing new songs because it was all fuckin amazing. sadly i've heard em all now but they're working on a new album which should be released no later then next year. should be sick as hell!

  • any bands like this one? Really liking the style

  • @Kingddd333 I've looked for bands that are like this, and I honestly can't find any that I like overall, there's a few bands with great riffs, but the vocals (alternative, screamo, or grunts) ruin the song. You might like exivious it isn't the same style, but it is awesome none the less.

  • Meshuggah= best technical metal band ever to walk the earth, totaly love the remastered version of this song too, also sounds amazing on Alive :) damn 'Shuggs, you scary!

  • i get this whole grove now, if you count the drummer crash as 1/4 notes then the guitar is playing a 7/8 riff. actually im probably wrong.

  • @ConsumedByDrums actuly its all 4/4 and the guitar are playing accents and sometimes the drum plays polyrythms(never spell that word properly) anyway that is my understanding of it and going on and off the beat say for instance you have 1234 1234 1234 1234 then change it by going 12 1234 123 1234 and resting in the off beats genrally from listening the kicks tend to follow the guitars and the crash and the snare plays the the 4/4 part.

  • @guitaristman23 knew i heard some 12

  • @Kingddd333 12? and if you like bands like this then you may like monuments, fellsilent, tesseract, periphery if you haven't already found them

  • @guitaristman23 12 1234 that style

  • @guitaristman23 The drums play polyrhythms throughout the song. The intro is a polyrhythm of 4/4 and 7/8. the kick drum exclusively follows the guitars as in most Meshuggah tracks

  • @DillingerEscapeMan try telling meshuggah that lol i remember listening to the metalkult lesson where they were talking about this and they always played along to a 4/4 beat and just changed where certain things landed on the beat. But thats what they said im not there when they are writing i can only go on what they have said them selves which seems logical. they even say that when they write its not really planned so to describe what there doing seems irrelvant nor to even worry about

  • @DillingerEscapeMan although to study there music may be interesting from a song writing point of view so as to use it in your own applications.

  • why in the fuck is beiber in the suggetsions??? this song is killer btw.

  • Be sure to listen in 480p!

  • Since 1987 this is how the swedish have defibrillated patients who fall into cardiac arrest. Statistically, it has been proven that since the rise of meshuggah, abnormalities in heart arrhythmia worldwide have risen dramatically.

  • this one doesn't work so well for me remastered. i feel like the floppy, rattly sound of the detuned 7-strings that made that riff at 0:27 sound so unnerving and huge got kind of smoothed out. still, if this were the first version i'd heard, i'd still love that riff

  • @VonJost The bass is so much bigger here, and IMO the bass is what makes the song.

  • @dujl I think a lot of the added bass is a result of how high the guitars are in the mix, which is another point that I don't like as much because it makes it harder to hear the drums, which are a really essential element for my appreciation of this band

  • @VonJost others are always welcome to hear things differently. I'm not trying to argue at all, just commenting.

  • Can someone put up the remastered closed eye visuals?

  • Thank you!!

  • yay from the remastered verson too!!! i like the remastered one cuz the groovy guitars are more crisp, love it! thanks bro
