guys the tune for the song all depends on the speed in which the car is traveling. Im sure that it may in fact be "in tune" but the car might have been traveling at a changing mph. or it could be the other way around idk. but what i do know is that this is pretty amazing and @pupnewkirk y dont u give it a try? im SURE that u can make the most crisp, in tune, orchestra style musing in the world -_-*
Who CARES if it's out of tune? Please. I'm a musician too, but I find this commerical completely endearing. It's fascinating that they managed to do this at all; it's a road. Don't hate on the tone quality. It's adorable.
@Sapphiresque It is in tune (or as close as can be expected) but the intervals between the notes are incorrect. For instance the first leap should be F-Bb-C-D (Do Fa Sol La) but they created F-A-Bb-C (Do Mi Fa Sol).
I still love the concept and passion that went into it though.
this is a cool idea! i've actually driven on it a few times since my hometown is rather close to Lancaster =). and to those who think its a waste of money at least it incorporates music, and thus the arts! We need more music, in our world, especially classical, which was chosen for this commercial. And you must admit that it IS very creative.
I didn't even know it was the William Tell Overture until I came here and looked. In terms of them emulating that song it failed. But I think it sounds like a pretty cool beat in itself...
I see where they are going with the idea but FAIL ... note accuracy and note values are not correct .... go ahead flame me, but I'm a crazy musician who hates when they debouch great music like that
This is the most ridiculous waste of money and resources I have seen in my entire life. I wish I had a contact address for honda civic, if this commercial is for real, because there are so many problems in the world today and that kind of money and time could be redirected toward, oh, I don't know.. renewable sources of fuel, wells in third world countries, AIDS research...
wow. way to kill the fun. fun-hater. so you know, this commercial is for real, and with the declining economy i would say this is, if not a 100% awesome use of resources, than an okay use of resources to raise the morale of the flailing companies and employees.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Oh, I apologize if I killed your fun. Just go right ahead and stick your head back in the sand.
I think raising morale of flailing companies and employees might be better achieved by some positive sign in the economy
I (+100 others) just got laid off from my job at Kimball Electronics factory in Indiana. I can't pay my bills with the meager sum offered me by unemployment. I can't find a job within fifty miles of where I live. People like you need a distraction, but I need a life preserver.
It's a lame comercial. IThey don't even show what exactly they are measuring and why. It doesn't even sense to someone who doesn't understand music or cars. I had no idea what the point was until I googled it
how can you spend all that time planning and calculating how to cut the grooves to specific pitches and lengths, but not get the melody right? this commercial sucks, i cringe and search for the mute button every time it comes on my tv.
@pipnewkirk Stfu it was cool. There isn't exactly a book on how to make songs with grooves, and maybe they did it on purpose so they could avoid copyright infringement even though that is probabaly public domain
@pipnewkirk it's called math. what, you didn't study and pass it? ooooohhhh. you're mama must be very proud of how dumb you are. I guess no one would like you if you hated music that way. it's a catchy tune. what do you watch instead anyway. Rebecca Black?
Although they were able to make tones with the grooves, it's apparent that no one consulted someone who knows MUSIC. They got the melody wrong! And the rhythm at the ending is also wrong.
So, jump for joy that you made some tones... but it was certainly NOT the "William Tell Overture." Next time, do your homework.
You're an idiot. Time and money constraints hold everything back to it's full potential. Also, how many tones can YOU get out of a tire? You are obviously going nowhere in life with your type of outlook. Good luck, you'll need it. I think these honda guys did a good job, it obviously got you to watch the video on you tube and comment on it. That's business, just get a buzz going. They did their job. They are not musicians, OBVIOUSLY!!!!
my dad lives right next to the road (they took it out) but they put it back in somewhere else in lancaster (I haven't figured out where) there is only 2 in the world, ones in japan the other one is in lancaster.
Nope. Honda Ridgeline

regardless of whether the tone and melody aren't spot on, it still sounds pretty cool :)

also remember it's all based on a constant speed, if they go faster or slower the pitch changes.

Just a lackluster commercial all the way around.
I actually kind of felt bad for them when they got so excited and started clapping at the end.

I am hardly an idiot. At least I know how to spell.
To your question, "how many tones can YOU get out of a tire?" the answer is infinite, depending on the speed of the vehicle.
Of course they're not musicians. Take it easy. You sound like your hostility might get the better of you.
Good luck.

They did take the original musical road out because of complaints from nearby residents.
The new one is located on Avenue G between 30th and 40th. (:
