I agree with everyone: it is what is so great about "smooth jazz." Great groove, wonderful hope behind it and the world is a place where we can live and change the things that need to changed. It reminds me, too, of the trip I won from WPIX-FM in NYC in about 1987 to Paris. What!!!!!!
Oh fantastic I've been looking for this song for the longest time! But since there are no lyrics and I had long forgotten the band/title it was basically impossible.. Persistence paid off though, it's just as lovely as I remember! <3
A beautiful song and a wonderful song. I first heard this song after I lost someone close to me. I was comforted so much by listening to this. Thanks for posting this.
Wooooooow.... this takes me back to the 80's when I was a teen chillin with my brother and watching this video on B.E.T. (YES.....!!!!! B.E.T.)... lol. Thanks for the memories..
i first heard this song in 1987, when this beautiful redhead...i'll call...christine, put on the album, pulled me into her bed and rocked my world. thanks chris...wherever you are!
WOW what a great song I found this song because of a Dave Morgan link he wrote this in 1969 it dose have lyrics also. I love ELO and Dave toured with them on ELO''S 1986 Balance Of Power cd.
Im glad i was able to find this song. I have found a couple of their cds in a discount bin for like a buck and thought " how could anyone sell their Hiroshima collection to have the shop reduce it but i am fortunate to have found them and they will stay with me forever. I love their sound. :)
As it turns out, One Wish is a crossover hit (back in 85') for Hiroshima, who was a big hit for fusion/smooth jazz fans. They were always jazz american loyalists but never intended to reach for crossover status, (it just sort of happened by force) and regular jazz and easy-listening made them a mainstay in the process. When your sound is so relaxing, it's really hard to pinpoint where you should be labled and because of that, no one even tries. Hiroshima is unique in sound.
When I first hear this song I knew right away that it was inspirational music to touch the heart of everybody who loves Smooth Jazz. It doesn't reach the entire world because the entire world does'' love JAZZ. Now, let me say this and I'm outta here, for those who never heard JAZZ and want to appreciate it, drink a bottle of Wine all to yourself and play this song at 1,000 Watts RMS pure power through 4 15" Speakers and 4 Tweaters from Pioneer and you will know JAZZ
@alrozz - I agree; I first heard this when I had the radio on at work to smooth jazz. I thought music was haunting, soothing, wistful and light all at the same time. I have to get their 'best of' CD;I I;ve heard it's very good.
Hiroshima, is AMERICAN JAZZ, with an asian (Japanese) influence. They are all American born and raised musicians, other than June who may have been born in Japan. I think the name was used because that's the place in Japan their grandparents originated from before migrating to the US. I am so glad they are still producing beautiful sounds, to have the longevity since their start in the 60's for over 40yrs!!
This is one of their better tracks. One of the first to use an electric koto, distinctive sound. They played at neighborhood community center gigs, weddings, social gatherings dances late 60s, 70s. Turned down an offer to play on the Johnny Carson show, cuz they didn't want to be treated as a "novelty" act. they were and are serious artist.
Beautiful music that meant so much to me when i moved near the pacific ocean and when I went to Hawaii, it gave it so much more meaning....Thank you Hiroshima
Absolutely! Nothing like it, seeing them at The Greek and smooth sailing through the new age of 80's when they were classified as Japanese Jazz on 94.7 ...The Wave. Not sure how it finally came to be categorized but still love all of their music to this day!
Herad this song and all of a sudden I sat down took a deep breath and thought about balancing my checkbook, starting a tomato garden, coming to complete stops at stop signs, eating more organically grown foods, learning the art of listening, lighting more candles in the house instead of flicking a light switch, walking on a beach barefoot instead of with socks, and getting massages from reputable places instead of the dirty nasty places I normally go.
@hiroshimamusic no thank you....also a huge fan of your music you've done for Ming Tsai and his old food network show East meets West....great music, thank you!!
I have been looking for this for years now and I heard it on a television music channel and I just had to find it so I could download it and now I can go to the jazz level of 25 years ago when my life was "one wish" at a time- tks for having this great song and taking me back to a more simple time!
I have been looking for this for years now and I heard it on a television music channel and I just had to find it so I could download it and now I can go to the jazz level of 25 years ago when my life was "one wish" at a time- tks for having this great song!
I LOVE the koto! And June makes it sound as beautiful as it ever could be! I've always really liked this song and probably always will. :) I like the feeling it gives me.
Will any musician out there please tell me if bass players still play with that string- tapping method similiar like the guy in this video? It was popular back in the 80s. Thanks.
My best memory of this song is when I won 2 front-row center seats from the local radio station.
I think it was about 2003 My date stood me up and I as I stood there and waited, the band had completed a few songs. Then ,out of nowhere, as this song was playing came "Barbara". I offered her a free seat. She said " are they good seats?" I was very pleased with her company and my One Wish for the evening had come true.
@igfromthe323 : it's a song that's been playing ever since I can remember! Though that radio stations selections never change, they still have good music that doesn't die out.
I need some info! Does anyone know if this was a single release? If so, when? Also, I know the "Another Place" album was released in 1985 but in exactly what month? Thanx!
A sweet piece of composition and arrangement. June is absolute magic with the koto. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting her or Dan, but I've met Danny Yamamoto and Johnny Mori. Great musicians and two nice guys besides. BTW, I think that the fan dancer may be a member of the L.A.-based KOTOBUKI-KAI, a society of traditional Japanese dance enthusiasts.
Saw amazing Hiroshima play at the 09 Norfolk Jazz Festival and I was blown away. By far one of the best performances I've seen in my lifetime. Can't wait to have the opportunity to see them live again.
Hiroshima is one of the two Japanese cities that was bombed with a nuclear bomb to end World War Two; for these guys/gal to choose such a band title and released such a heart-warming tune is a remembrance of an era where old wounds are healed!
I dig this band was in Okinawa in the early 90's... The CD I got was great it had another Song I really liked but can not find.. "Touch and Go" Absolutely a wonderful Group... Excellent music to relax to. Thank you!..
I wonder why every generation says, "when it was good music or when music was real"?
To me all time periods have good music, I think what they mean is the music that is mainstream or music that's on the radio. The radio is poison turn it off and look for something you never heard before. Try Pandora.com, you will always finds something there.
@screwface1011 You are correct. I am on Pandora.com and agree with you. Right now, some of the music sucks. You have to find the talent and it is out there.
The last time I heard this song was when i was getting ready to fly to Texas to visit my parent for christmas. My first time in Texas. best chritmas gift ever. When i hear this song, it makes me think of that time. One of my favorite songs from Hiroshima. very impressed with the use of the koto in this song
Me too, I used to hear them on the local Jazz Station (radio) back in the Late 80's early 90's Back then my fav's were Herb Alpert, Incognito, Hiroshima. Marion Meadows. Etc. Still brings back happy memories.
@mesquiteguy1221 Funny, we liked a lot of the same music. You're lucky this played in your area. I remember having to hook the cable up to my radio to get the NYC stations that would play the better music and thats how I came across this song. Music has changed so much, and radio isnt even worth listening to anymore but these songs do bring back such great memories.
Amen about there not being very much to listen to on the radio these days. In my truck (P/U) I have only a few stations that I listen to on a regular basis Christian, Jazz, Classical, An Oldies Station, And that's about it. Even then the Jazz station is at time difficult to hear very clearly. Fortunantly I have a fairly decent Jazz C.D. Collection to rely on for down loading to my MP 3 player. BUT I don't have such goodies as Hiroshima
I first heard of Hiroshima in the 80's. They made an appearance on Soul Train and they played this song. Their music mix Japanese Koto music and Jazz stood out. They did great as a band. I like to see them have a reunion.
In the late '80s, a friend knew I liked contemporary/jazz fusion type of music and introduced me to Hiroshima.
I bought their "Another Place" CD and played it incessantly - well, the "Another Place" and "One Wish" tracks at least!
"Another Place" has a great soothing rhythmic beat to it, but "One Wish" with its ethereal synthesizer and the Japanese koto just has an "other worldly" feel to it, always an uplifting, positive, optomistic tone and mood.
I'm 45 yr. old blk. mixed asain. i dicovered hiroshima while in europe in the late 80's . i've been totally hooked ever since...grumpy if you like this check out their 2 best cd's to me "go" and "east" i still lisen to every track back to back uummm!! goood stuff.
Is there a good side 2 europe because as of right now i hate that place,,Im sorry it's just that those people out there killing those dolphins 4 no reason i don't no wy but i just don't understand it europe people are sick and evil as far as im concerned @ this time in my life..if don't believe me look up on u tube europe dolphin slaughter and you will see..it changed my outlook on this evil place we live in..
I'm a 41-year-old Asian and don't usually enjoy oriental music---with the exception to this tune...the first time I heard this tune was from KFOG in San Franscico in '93; and I thought this is from a black jazz band (if y'all can believe that.)...
I can understand. It does sound like it has that R&B sound with a asian twist. It has that magical sound if that makes any sense. I have most of their cd's and a lot of their music sounds like that. I love this group!
An easy-paced relaxing groove. Hiroshima also had some great up-tempo songs such as "No. 9" and "Golden Age". This contemporary jazz group was a big part of the music scene when contemporary jazz was at its peak in the mid-80's to early 90's.
i may be young, but i am subjected too such music.. im different then other kids.. i still listen to gerald albright, grandmaster flash and other oldies. muand i must say music now-a-days has changed.. some for the better some for the worst. i love listening to such music. must do find this an amazing blend of modern jazz and japenese koto music.
omg ..this brings me back to my highschool day ..listening to 98.7 middle of the night ...this was one of kind Memorable song ..cause u hear it and it takes you back to simpilar time in our lives ...i wish can go back ..thanx for the memories
Best moment of light jazz ever. I remember when 98.7 Kiss-FM in New York would play just about everything that wasn't rock music, and this fit into the mix just fine. Such memories! Peace.
I randomly picked up their album "Third Generation" not knowing who they were bout a month ago. The music is great! Searched and found this song here. That capped me in for good now Im a Fan! This song though is absolutely relax and captures that feel good mood.

Even then the Jazz station is at time difficult to hear very clearly. Fortunantly I have a fairly decent Jazz C.D. Collection to rely on for down loading to my MP 3 player. BUT I don't have such goodies as Hiroshima

Pretty much the only song of theirs I know, but have always like it a lot! I love the koto; it is beautiful. :)

I first heard of Hiroshima in the 80's. They made an appearance on Soul Train and they played this song. Their music mix Japanese Koto music and Jazz stood out. They did great as a band. I like to see them have a reunion.

Saw Hiroshima live in a small club settting when they were touring to support the recent release of the "Another Place" album.
The lone regret was that they only played "One Wish" as their encore and not a main centerpiece song.

I've always liked this song, but Da-Da and Lion's Song are my all-time favorites. Congrats to them for the Grammy nom (Legacy is a must have).

Best moment of light jazz ever. I remember when 98.7 Kiss-FM in New York would play just about everything that wasn't rock music, and this fit into the mix just fine. Such memories! Peace.
