@WASSUPnikka You strum the same. The trick is to use fingers on nearby strings to lightly touch the strings that have an x. When you are strumming, instead of ringing out, these notes should have a dead sound. To understand the basic concept, take a finger on your left hand and rest it lightly against any open string, without pushing it down towards the fingerboard. Now pluck the string. Notice the dead sound? That is what your fingers should be doing to the strings marked 'x' in a chord.
awesome chords, awesome instructional video. that 5x567x chord is a type of A13 maybe? and the 7x788x could be B7#5 if that even exists- dont quote me. Great job tho dudeson!
You're a guitarist and you don't know this scale? That's pretty bad, you need to learn this right away.
He plays the E minor pentatonic scale, but starts on the b7, which is D, and then goes all the way up to a G, which is the b3 in E minor penta, but G is also the "one" chord, so it fits really nice. Stevie does this alot.
What you need to practise is the singing. The guitar parts are very easy in comparison.
What does being blind have to do with this? Are you saying that Stevie didn't know which chords he was playing? The fact that he can't SEE them doesn't mean he can't recognize chords or scales.
But to answer your question, no you don't need to know them. People who cover Stevie Wonder songs usually have some clue about musical theory, and I count recognizing an Em penta scale as something you can do after your first day of practising guitar.
But knowing chords is definitely an advantage, since you can memorize them and learn other songs faster. Playing without chords is like building a skyscraper without blueprints :)
I think he sang it very well, but I'm saying that people who want to learn this song should focus more on the vocal parts if you want this to sound good. It's no use only knowing how to play it, you gotta sing it well too =) Maybe get a friend to sing or play if you cant do both.
@lastho hey bud thats a G major scale at the 10th fret, not an Em pentatonic. Which explains why he played a G chord right before playing a G major scale... music theory much?
@guitardc59 Hey buddy, since the scale he's playing does not contain the 4th or the maj7th of a G major scale, the logical conclusion is that this ISN'T a G major SCALE.
You are however correct in that the song is in the KEY OF G MAJOR, which is what made you think that this is a G major scale. If you know your circle of fifths, you can tell me what the paralell key of Gmajor is, and why that was a Em pentatonic scale.
OMG..I watched your original video about 50 times to pick apart those chords! I was pleased to find out I had the chords right but missed the scale by a couple notes. Still trying to get the strum and voicing down..tough one! Thanks for the tunes and good luck in vet school! My dog has had one TPLO surgery and needs the other leg done this winter! Yikes.

[x7578x, 5x567x, 575755(not sure), 3x443x, 7x788x]
those are the chords for the first part he plays.
After the Gm7 (3x443x) he plays 320001 for a G7 and then to a Cm7 (335453) back to the 7x788x and then to a x7577x.
That should be enough to help you guys who aren't getting it yet. Please, correct me if i'm wrong.
MrAcoustick 2 years ago 40
575755 is supposed to be 557575 :D
lil94c 2 years ago
you're right, except they are all major 7s (maj7) not minor (m7) 7 chords. The D is your typical dominant 7 with fifth string root: x57575
odenatorador 2 years ago
@MrAcoustick the not sure part is 557555/ 557575
dardevera 1 year ago 11
@dardevera i think he hammers on the 7 on the b string
WithMyAcoustic 1 year ago
@MrAcoustick it's not Gm7. it's Gmaj7 and then it's not a Cm7 but it's a Cmaj7
