  • hi sensei. i realy like all the grappling in your style. i train goju ryu do you know anything about that style and if so what do you think of it? do you think its combat effective?

  • Vader, who is a legit strong man at 6' 6"

400+ lbs and a 600lbs press claimed that Takada's kicks at the time were harder Than a baseball bat. They legit hurt him. Also notice that in his MMA days he could barely walk and that his legs were heavily taped almost mummified.

  • Hmm, perhaps you should meet my old friend Maurice Smith or some of his pals, Carlos Newton, Patrick Smith, Kevin Randleman or Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou :-)

  • so does nobuhiko have legit skills because in his mma bouts he wasnt that good.

  • most of black boys don't want to get kicked in legs, and he did not like that at all!

I see most of blacks are kind of chicken out when they know that they can't win the match!

they are famous for that kind of things, and complains later about rules this and that...blah blah blah...

    they are so silly!

Takada did great job on Berbick!

  • I think by the time Takada finally entered MMA it was closer to the end of his career. Where he may have been strong in spirit his best years were behind him.

  • Mr. McCarthy, this is what I also heard from many of the Japanese pundits and fighters I stay in touch with from Japan. They believe that Takada's prime was in the mid 80s to early 90s. What's ironic is that Rickson Gracie who has meticulouly marketed himself and his Jiu Jitsu as being the best, didn't take on the caliber of fighters Takada had. So who had the bigger heart? A guy who fought cans( Rickson) or someone who fought Coleman, Kerr, Vovchachyn, and Cro Cop in their prime?

  • rickson did fight cans but takada made a show of himself in all his mma fights except for the last few seconds of his bout v coleman which looked very much like a work.

  • ive never seen any legit skills from takada at the end of his career or not.He couldnt have been as old as rickson when they fought either.

  • Berbick was told it was a pre-determined show-match like all other UWFI-matches. Takada started to shoot, and Berbick left the ring. Japanese promotions are famous for these kind of incidents, where you lure a fighter into a fight on false promises. Perhaps he would have lost anyway, but Berbick sure didn't prepare for a legitimate shoot fight.

  • Hmmm, perhaps this is true but I don't think so. Another American fighter I worked with during that time was Matthew Saad Mohammed [former WBA/WBC Lt.HW Champ] in a mixed bout that he lost against Tamura. He never complained, quite the opposite. I respected this athlete.

  • I know that Berbick signed a contract with a pre-determined agreement. He was supposed to lose, but not this way in legitimate shoot action, wich is what Takada turned it into. It's a fact, and there a few examples similar to this.

  • Did Takada intentionally shoot on Berbick or was it just a misunderstanding about the rules?

  • Takada thigh kicked Berbick's unprotected lead leg several times --- Jesus, I thought he broke his leg on the last one!

  • It was even funnier to watch in person ... he jumped over the ropes and straight back to the change room where he complained until told to fuck off and read the contract [again]!

  • Not a bad video. It's too Bad berbick was a fuckin idiot , thought kicks were against the rules and jumped out of the ring...
