  • Three years loving you - have you done the chicken dance sing yet?

  • We sang this to my poor mother at her surprise 50th birthday party. She was an excellent sport and nearly choked from laughing so hard. Now a few years later, she still refers to it as the "best party ever!"

  • This song sounds so familiar, as if I sang it as a child at school. However, I'm British, so it cannot be.

  • He's singing about Madonna and her Super Bowl HalfTime Show!

  • The Simpsons invented this song

  • Believe it or not this is my school fight song! Go Racers!!

  • And now the Crazy Old Man Singers.

  • Happy new year from Buenos Aires!!! We're listening to your music!!!

  • @diegobattini I love Argentina. My cousin lives in Buenos Aires. I was in Buenos Aires in 2006… a wonderful city. Happy New Year to you!

  • Thanks for making this! Combined with Simpsons nostalgia it made my night!

  • The 2nd verse as I learned it was The Old Gray Mare, she went down the Delaware, looking for her underwear, couldn't find them anywhere." I'm surprised there aren't more verses kicking around.

  • My grandfather had a spud farm in tasmania many long years ago, now i have grown up and i find myself singing this song to myself, and even out loud. It makes me think they were the good old days. Thankyou for posting this clip, and the best.

    Good luck

  • If this is sung to a guy, it should be, "The old gray stud he ain't what he used to be," which I've heard sung before.

  • Oh my god! I love it! :D

  • i think this is old mate outta the simpsons :P

  • i love this.

my great grandma use to sing to me when i was young.

    it made me teary-eyed.

  • It dont get much better than this! The Kazoo sounds great! These old folk songs are still the best!

  • Love this! best version on the Tubes!

  • This is how you sing a folk song. It's beauty lies in it's simplicity. Hell, this is how you supposed to sing ANY song, not like those losers with their horrid improvisation in American Idol.

  • I have this on my channel when the man sings it with his trousers down in the simpsons lol

  • can anyone tell me whats the name of the original song

  • fantastic! thanks!

  • poor deadmau5.

  • This is a good song to sing after Happy Birthday for a female who is turning 40 or 50.

  • @milantaus Yeah. My mom turned 61 on her last birthday, and I sang that to her. All I got out of her was, "Hey, now, maybe I am better than I used to be many long years ago." This was in church when I sang it, mind you, and she turned to my aunt and said, "You know what she started singing as soon as I sat down?" When my mom told her, my aunt started laughing.

  • @dustbunee2007 Lovely story... all the best

  • Deadmau5 brought me here.

  • i think deadmau5 is trying to tell us he feels OLD. :O

  • Like if you can imagine deadmau5 listening to this before every live performance.

and maybe just as a tip... if you'd actually play this as an intro at one of your shows. The crowd would go nuts and sing along! Believe me !

  • banjo kelele kazooooooooooo

  • My dad used to play this on his harmonice

  • i slightly peed myself. not in a bad way.

  • just saw Jim Carrey singing this on an old episode of "In Living Color"

  • Hello! I share this song with the 2nd graders. There is a song in the literature book about the facts of USA using this tune. The students like your version very much, especially the kazoo part... they think it sounds like elephant.

  • @maestrawan No wonder kids can't write a grammatically correct paragraph when they get to high school!

  • Banjo ftw

  • this gets me pumped for murray state basketball

  • The best birthday song EVER!!!!

  • @krios66a Yeah, when your parents get old, that's what you should sing to them. I did that to my mom on her last birthday, and she said, "Hey, now, maybe I am better than I used to be many long years ago." Who knows? She might get revenge and sing it to me on my next birthday.

  • When he started with the kazoo I started giggling.

  • this is a song the simpsons taught me.

  • This is by far the best version on youtube.......Only reason i found out about this song is i was watching baseball braves vs phillies.. And chipper jones 38 years old Hit his first homerun from left side of the plate this year and our announcer said the old grey mare aint what she used ot be

  • @atlbraves1025 I guess baseball has a purpose after all :o)

  • Thank you for posting my mother used to sing this to us on our birthday. It brings back nice memories of her :)

  • @boegerm Instead of her singing it to you on your birthday, you should've sung it to her on her birthday. My mom's birthday is coming up soon (61), and instead of "Happy Birthday", that's what I'm going to sing to her.

  • Thank you for posting this!! It brings back good memories of my mom, she used to sing this to us on our birthday :)

  • LMFAOOOOOO

im sry the musician is quite talented but when the old jewish man in the simpsons was dancing with his pants down singing this it made me not take the song seriously

  • Most welcome...

  • Cheers, mate. The star I'm looking at has your name on it. I sincerely, mean that , my friend - mind you, it's getting frign'n dark. All the best, whatever that means.

  • an old horse. an old grey (as in grey hair, I recon) mare/horse

  • And how she is no longer what she used to be.

  • many long years ago

  • your mom

  • My dad always sang a verse you didn't have:

"The old gray mare floatin' down the Delaware, in her summer underwear, lookin' for a winter pair, the old gray mare floatin' down the Delaware, many long years ago."

He didn't have all the verses you had, though.

  • Thank you soo much! I've been trying to remember that verse for such a long time. My grandpa used to sing this to me when I was a youngin'.

    Thanks again! =)

  • My grandpa used to use that version too but along with lewdite's. i miss him.

  • haaahha hha ahah ha hahhaah ha hahh ha hahhhxD xD xD

  • Super

  • This is a classic American folk song. Love it.

  • You just change 'ain't what she used to be' to 'kicked on the whiffletree' for the second verse.

  • What happened to the verse about kicking down the whiffletree?

  • I don't know that verse...

    send it to me

  • Best comment ever.

  • Previous comment directed at 'cegriffin' :-)

    Have a nice day.

  • Ha! Thank you. Clearly, I'm very concerned about lyrical accuracy in my old folk songs.

  • My Grandpa always sang so many songs.... this was one of them... its nice to hear and remember him Thanks!!

  • great! can´t get enough of that song ;D

    good job lewdite

  • my grandmother always sings this song and she calls her self "the old grey mare" so i finally looked up the song and its great!

  • OH GRAY MARE, SHE AINT WHAT SHE USED TO BE. Infact, in the 1880's my gray mare got old and she aint what she used to be. So this song is so fitting to my life, and effected me in such a big way, i cried at the bit you brought the kazooie in. It reminded me when i ate sausages in my Mare, Thats right, IN my mare. My mare was called lego, and lived in a house. Infact there he is now, say hello mare. HELLO! hes a nice mare isn't he. NO IM NOT. oi stop it mare. anyway gotta fly to africa.

  • that is the single most greatest thing i have ever heard. i am actually not joking.

  • you are right. it is the single biggest pisser that i have ever had the fortunate pleasure of stumbling across

  • Ahh..memories of Krusty the Clown and the Simpsons...wonderful

  • Old Jewish Man sings it with his pants down!!

  • I can't find that video on here D: I was looking for it before.

  • Thanks for posting. Mom my. before her passing this past Dec used to say this phrase and also say this ditty....thanks for the memories, also a good song.

  • This guy is great.

  • this is genius

  • WONDERFUL song!

  • The reason I came to see this song/video, is because I am reading a blog, about an Arabian breeder. She saw someones GORGEOUS gray mares, with fantastic pedigrees (their registration papers) and came and saw them several years later, and they were still as great as when she saw them the first time. So the Arabian breeder said, the person who wrote that song, wasn't talking about those horses.

  • i realize this comment was written a month or so a go, but i have to reply. I believe the song writer is referring to the mare's stamina and physical ability, rather than its appearance. I've had young and old mares, and though the old ones dont look bad, they do tend to see a marked decline in physical ability in their late years. Nearly all animals do, its only natural.

  • I came to look up this song, and clicked on this video.

  • Like it ;)

  • As a Youth of America, I would like to thank you for giving me the opporotunity to hear such master pieces.

  • Love your music,my father use to play them on the bango, and mouth organ.

  • Kentucky Mommy here...I just showed my 4 year old daughter "The Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly" and then she clicked on your rendition of "The Old Grey Mare." She wants to know what tht instrument you play with your mouth is called. I think you have a new fan!! ;o) -Kentucky Mommy

  • It is called a kazoo. I bought it in 2001 from a musical instrument maker in Bristol Tennessee after I had been to the Merlefest in North Carolina.
