I agree with your analysis. The West since the first ballot have given Hamid Karzai winner while aware of mass electoral fraud. Even the honest resignation of Peter Galbraith and of four of its colleagues and the renouncement of the Doctor Abdullah Abdullah to participate to the second ballot have not change the situation. What a scandal !! Even the Afghan population no longer back Hamid Karzaï and have some regrets as regard to the order and the justice of the Taleban regime.
