Well, it slows it down. And it's like "Tradition", the refs mistakes are supposedly part of the game, but really. I think, like in american football, you should be able to challenge a call at least once a game. ONCE a game per team, that would be like 4 minutes total. That's nothing. And yeah, it's bullshit. When we have refs like this in the world fucking cup (The one who disallowed Lampard's goal too), something needs to be done.

The point of view of the ref is different from the camera; He makes his decisions on the spot in a split second, not based on slowmotion rewinds. He might have looked at the judgment of the assistref, but he made an perceptual error as well. Maybe the ref's view was blocked for a split second. And yes, the ref made a wrong decision. That happens every day on the road in caraccidents. Those drivers are not retarded.

It wasn't strictly speaking an offside goal, since the goal keeper touched the ball before Tevez catched it: it equals a ball pass by the goal keeper to someone who was behind him. Hadn't the goal keeper touched it, it would have been an offside goal.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have been told, that an offside position is judged only when there is one person between the attacker and the goal at the time of the ball being passed.Usually it's the goalkeeper, who is the "one person", but in rare cases offside can be judged with a defending player being between the goal and the attacker (e.g. seen in a corner earlier in this World Cup). When Tevez was passed the ball, there was NO PLAYER between him and the goal, therefore he was not offside.

There's meant to be TWO players between the attacker and the goal line when the ball is passed. If the keeper (for some reason) ran way up the pitch the attacking player would have to stay in front of two defenders, not just one.

So yes, the keeper comes into it... but having just the keeper between attacker and goal when the ball is passed is definitely offside. Change your definition to "two people" and you're there.
