it bring tears 2 my eyes everytime i watch this!. N i was so glad n proud 2 b part of the 10 thousand pple who showed up as 2 support a freedom 2 love! Its true, that the organizer need 2 find more bigger venue next year! N do find the location as more easy accessible, as I am not SGrean N i b.et there were lots of non SGrean who came on that historic day! But it was good sign of better future 2 come as many Singaporean are becoming open minded nowadays.N it will be my not to miss yearly event
i was there. much like the campaign video, the event was really nice. i was really touched by the support of friends and speakers alike. their words were very uplifting and reassuring, to say the least. i love them all, just like how they love me for who i am.(':
Don't forget to be nice to each other, gay people! If we can't be open-minded and inclusive ourselves, if we continue persecuting others for not fitting in with our ideas of what being gay is about, if we continue to treat minorities within the gay community as second-class citizens, then acceptance by the straight mainstream is a poor consolation! Peace! :o)
This is really touching. Thank you Singaporeans. We have hope for a better future for every single person regardless of sexual orientation, race and religion <3
It is a joy to be part of something bigger than ourselves. Thank you to my bosom friends who were there with me to make it an even more memorable occasion. What certainly made the event very Singaporean is the very relaxed atmosphere and the quiet efficiency of the event.... i think that the way it is makes it more given to introspection, which is the way to go, the better to make the message sink in.
This video's focusing on the Malay Makcik is no different from PAP photo ops where they like to include a Makcik included in the lineup of supporters. It's a very sorry attempt at tokenism. : (
The LGBT community does not have the same amount of leeway and tools when it comes to imposing propaganda on the masses in Singapore, so I find your comment quite confusing and presumptive.
377A is still around. To the foreigners here, it's the law in Singapore's penal code that makes anal or oral sex (i.e., unnatural sex) between those of the same gender a crime. That is punishable by either a jail sentence or a fine.
What is the point of your reminder? Everybody knows Pink Dot was set up as a result of the govt's refusal to repeal 377A. It is a constant reminder to the govt that things are changing in Singapore and that this change is happening at an exponential rate. So really, explain what is your point here?
living in the US, this video is amazing.. i wish more families were like this.. i teared up while watching many of your videos.. It brings hope to my heart that we all can one day live together without people looking down on us!! THANK YOU!!
The significance of being a part of a movement to support the freedom of love didn't hit me (i was too tired after serving too many drinks that day) until i watched the video here. I'm so proud and glad that i've been able to attend this event.
"love between any 2 people is a wonderful thing!" well said! <3 wish more Singaporean can accept the LGBT community. hope more families can support their loved ones. i know as Asian country and Asian families is hard, but hey! nothing is impossible! just need one person to do it, and the rest will follow! i know said is easier than done! but no harm trying! (:
The malay mother is really really supportive of her son.! Not all malay moms are that supportive. <3 And i think next year, u might wanna move to a bigger venue perhaps.?? hahahah... It's like no longer becoming a dot.. :S
I'm actually amazed that they did this. It actually gives me hope as I've always thought of singapore as a homophobic society. (Ignorance on my behalf, pardon me.)
The makcik (Malay aunty) was cute. Clearly even her daughter was impressed by her encouraging words, and hopefully she is but one of many equally open minded, supportive and loving parents.
It was such a beautiful day with beautiful people. It felt like family, even though it was with complete strangers, there was just so much overwhelming support, love and acceptance that I didn't feel anywhere else.
I wanna cry watching this. How can I ever let my family understand who I am and accept me for what I am? I have been to all pink dot but never able to bring them along because they still have prejudice against the lgbt people. I was touched by the families who were there to support, and I hope next year, mine would too. ):
was an amazing saturday ... really amazed at the number of people who came. i was expecting 6,000 - 8,000 people so 10,000 is a SUPER turnout!! completely agree that i feel more Singaporean at PinkDot than on national day
Thank you very, very much for the moving speech, Pam Oei! *hugs *
Wish that all parents (and all humanity) are like Ken and you....
Congrats to both of you on the arrival of your baby boy. He is indeed very fortunate to have such enlightened and open-minded people for his daddy and mummy! : )
As a gay foreigner who just moved here on an assignment a month ago, I have so far been happily surprised so far by the seemingly gentle ambience here toward homosexuality.
@heyyoupeanut - Thanks for the kind words. I love the charm of the country, the well-behaved and kind friendly multi-cultural society. The heat can be a bit much at times, but overall a great climate. The food tends to be excellent, although property (rent) rather expensive. So far, only the taxi system is a disappointment (why do they purposely not pick you up just to try to earn a few more dollars by pick-period or call appt?). Very nice country :-)
