I tried to read the Qur'an - but it was even worse than the Bible.

Even at the beginning when the second verse was called "the cow" and seemed to be about how you should not question the text. And though this was spelled out in so many ways I did not find it at all convincing. And I had the feeling that "the cow" would be me if I read any more of it.

If the text had been divinely inspired I think it would have been better written - I felt more enlightened when reading Lucretius

Well - I tried. But after only a few surahs I gave up. It is seriously poorly written :(

The first few chapters is just repetition after repetition of how this is divine text.

And then the chapter named "the cow" in the beginning also threw me off.

I didn't get very far before I had to give up - perhaps someday I'll try again.

But I can't help but think that a divinely inspired book should be more sensical and easier to read.

I did enjoy Omar Khayyam's The Rubaiyat though.

The first chapter is the way Allah teaches us "what" to ask and "How" to ask. The rest of Quran is the answer to this pray. Now don't go too far. In the starting of second chapter "The cow", Quran talks about 7 characteristic of a pious man. Have you tested yourself to this very basic scale and see if you have these 7 characteristic yet?

Don't believe me? Get out of your comfort zone and do a comparitive religion study. Learn the bible from a Christian, Learn Judaism from a Rabbi, Learn Gita from a hindu AND THEN learn Quran from a Muslim. Hopefully your knowledge will be increased. :)

What is "good" and what is "bad" ? This is exactly where crux of the problem is. Human beings will NEVER unanimously agree on what is "good" and what is "bad". What is good for "you" may not be good for "me". What is bad for "me" may not be bad for "you". And this is EXACTLY where you need divine intervention. Once u start believing that ONLY God decides whats "good" n "bad", ur heart will enter into peace.

If God exist his moral is only opinion like mine. He has no right to impose his moral standards on to me without my asking. He has no right to judge me. He is not selected by the people - at least I did not vote for him. I am so to speak outside his jurisdiction and if he breaks my human rights he is doing crimes against humanity like any dictator or mass murderer.

This is the moral standard that I and most humans who are not psychopaths follow:

There are actions that you do to people against their will (non-consentual) and other actions that they ask you to do to you (consentual).

And there are actions that hurts (harmful) or helps (helpful).

Non-consentual action done to a human that is also harmful IS immoral.

Consentual action that is helpful is moral.

The rest is grey area to be discussed.

And that goes for your god as well

If you create a sentient being is that being your slave? Or do you loose ownership of it as soon as it thinks its first coherent thought? Do you get to decide what purpose it has in life? Do you earn the right to torture it?

I find the line of thought to be deeply immoral. You your god is not moral enough to realize that he does not own us he is not mature enough that he should make us in the first place.

Philhellenes may well own the ants in his ant farm. He cares for them, he looks after them, feeds them and makes their existence possible. But the notion of him torturing them seems overly cruel and we find him to be more than a little bit disturbed in the head. Nope. Your very idea of assuming that God is like a man is incorrect. EVERY human being is in a test by God. Some are tested by God with billions of dollars in their accounts, others r tested by hunger, poverty, fire etc. EVERYONE is in a test with the situation he has been put by God. And be it luxury or misery, it HAS to end with DEATH. And the answer key to everyone's test (regardless of his test situation) is defined in Qur'an. It's up to u whether u wanna use the key or not.
