i hate it when people say that "that looks gross" as long as it tastes good it doesn't matter. It doesn't have to look purfect. I would try that. You, SimpleCookingChannel, are a great cook. You always make me hungry :)
I don't really know how that constitutes layers, I mean, It looks like you just threw a tonne of shit into a bowl. Id probably be ill if i was served that, also theres no cream on top. Epic fail in my book.
it looks really funny! i think this video is super cute.. i can imagine my boyfriend making something like that x) and you are right, we don't eat with the eyes, but it's always nicer when what we eat not only tastes good but also looks good. maybe if you use little small bowls/glasses since the beginning and do the whole preparation in them instead of mixing it in a big one and serve from it.. it would improve a lot the presentation ;)
@SimpleCookingChannel Never heard of sensory perception and the effects it has on your appetite then. Your first mechanism indicating hunger is sense of smell followed by visionary aids. These triggers set your tastebuds going and cause your mouth to water. This in turn makes your stomach growl because it thinks its being fed when it isnt. Then you get hungry. So yes, you do eat with your eyes and that pile of pig swill would put anyone off their food
@Cordi666 Until you have sat in front of my food & smelled it you can't have this opinion. Not sure why you care so much & feel you need to be right. What's your need for validation?
What a lie, I clicked on this video to see the trifle on the thumbnail of this video!! Instead I see something that looks something totally different. In a bad way.
still keeping it simple, one can tweak this. Making your own custard will taste much better; I use custard powder to make custard. Divide jellies and set 1/2 in the fridge. (I use 3 flavours) Use the liquid portion to pour over the sponge with the sherry so it soaks in, marbling the jelly. Sprinkle a little dessicated coconut over, then pour on the custard. Continue layering to the top. Once jelly is set, chop up and drop it on top like colourful jewels. Fruit can be added if you like. :)
I think he has made an awesome job really for a bloke. BTW, I am sure it tastes lovely, but my point is, I use jam swiss rolls, line the sides of a trifle dish, so it doesn't look so messy, and on top you use custard, why don't you try some whipped fresh cream and strawberries to decorate, and I also make fresh custard, tastes better than bought ready made. Just sharing what I do, but mate, I am sure yours tastes good too. Merry Christmas!
@pigentoroma What do you mean leave the guy alone!! He made a mess and I'm just airing my point. That's the whole point of being able to leave comments, whether or not they're positive or negative.
Banana Seals keep food fresh - especially during the Holidays! Even Brown Sugar stays soft and fresh for months! Oh yea, and the Banana Seals make great stocking stuffers! Check it out on the web at: SaveTheBananaSeal
Like the idea of the diff coloured jelly's but think I'll be stinking to the old British recipe my Gran used for the rest. Slice up a jam roll and soak in sherry overnight, do layers as in this but also adding drained tinned fruit, add the jelly last while still a liquid, once set top with whipped cream & hundreds & thousands - most important use maybe half the bottle of sherry & drink the rest whilst eating it :)
It may not look appealing to some of you guys who are calling it gross. But looks can be deceiving! Don't judge until you taste it. -__- Some of you guys are just rude.

he didn't mention that you should crack the egg into a separate bowl. And the egg and milk should be room temperature. And the cake looks burned on the top -- i baked my 10 minutes less and got a more golden color on the cake.
If you want to crack an egg with one hand without getting shells in your food try cracking it against a flat surface, like the countertop, instead of a sharp edge.
I really liked it!
