how do you get it to sound that loud? i know its hollow inside but i still dont get how it you get that sound. i made my own lyre and it sounds really soft. what strings do yo uuse bu the way?
@laurensbluedragon Thanks for your comment. This lyre was made by Michael King who is a master instrument builder, so the soundboard is finely carved from high quality European maple wood and is only a couple of mm thick. On this instrument it is set up as an Irish lyre with strings of iron, brass and sterling silver wire, which makes it sound bright and loud; on English and Continental lyres it is usual to use gut, or horsehair, or modern substitutes such as nylon. Can you show us your lyre?
