A bit of trivia for our English-speaking friends: Oshiruko (with the honorific "O" or "お" appended in the prefix) is a traditional New Year's dessert served in Japan. It is simply called shiruko (汁粉) when served on other occasions.
so, you take the anko beans, get them soft with the straining, sitting and boiling. then you add....some sort of flour or cornstarch?reduce it till it thickens up a bit, toast the mochi and you're done!?
if i could be sure of what you added to the anko beans i could do the instructions. looks tasty though.
"Oshiruko is red branwn sweet soup wtht rice cake." How hard is it to re-read yourself once you're done writing?

@jmwintenn Japanese recipes tend to rely soley on the sugar to thicken it up rather than use starch.
