This album was incredible !! For me Tom Did every song on it ( bar It's a Mans Mans world) better than the originals. For me He had more fire and soul than most of the soul stars. Even they recognised his vast talent. TOM JONES is a true legend !!!
Great voice. But he just doesn't have the soul. To me, Eric Burden's version is better ≠ Burden doesn't have anywhere near Jones's voice, but he sings with such depth and soul.
Tom Jones have power voice than Eric; hi use different voice level and styles in songs. But I think that Tom got compliment that he is unique white singer who can sing soul blues as black singer's, after his great covers version : I can't stop loving you, Hard to handle, Hold on I coming, Sitin' on the dock, Get Ready, Tired Of Being Alone .. and many more
I agree that there are many variant of soul, blues and rock. I think cover versions performed by Tom Jones are generally faster to emphasize the rhythm and his style of singing. I still think that this is not pop, but a combination of soul, blues and rock, like most of his cover versions. Compare that his version of the Chills and fever is different than the one from Ronni Love and practically with minimal modifications.. regards
Soul music is the expression of ones mind will and emotions, most singers soul have a relationship with God and in the church they learned how to sing and touch the human spirit, hence the birth of many great soul singers from the church. Tom also has a great faith in God and his voice is BLESSED it touches peoples souls. he was the only white guy from the uk that the black soul singers said had soul, i agree with them not you, no offense , hug
@mrmaph Just because you disagree with me doesn't give you the right to decide that I don't know what soul is. I have been a working blues musician for more than 30 years. You may not agree with me, that is your right. But that doesn't mean that your definition of soul is the only right one. I know where soul came from and to me, Tom is not the most soulful white singer from the UK. And let's leave God out of this, please. I like Tom, as a pop artist with soulful overtones. No offense taken. Hug

I loved his TV show. What was that Welsh phrase he always said at the end?

@edko426 I got info from T.J. official forum.....:
"Gwyn eich byd a dymynaf i chwi lawenydd bob amser!" It means, May you always be well and be happy.
