why would we want the government in control of what is taught to our children? especially on topics such as history and government courses. we all know the government lies and will do whatever it takes to rewrite history to cover their own ass. having a monopolistic control over what is and isnt taught is not freedom.
We need to get rid of the DOE. The DOE made education level on the USA standards lower than any other countries. Before the DOE, our education standards was the highest. Now since the DOE was created, it's lower. it's a waste of taxpayers money. We also provide too much defense on Europe and all parts of the world so they could spend on their social safety net. That's why needs to be fixed from the Federal budget.
No Child left behind passed in 2001 didn't damn help either.
The US Department of education is a government agency that helps put different regulations in place to make sure that the children kn the world receive the proper education. This agency makes sure that teachers are qualified to teach and if you are having a problem with a school there are regional offices across the world that will help you the best way they can according to the regulations that are in their jurisdiçtion.
For all of you ignorant people who would even consider listening to this bull shit shows your level of knowledge of the US DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION. This Federal agency is not only here for the people but they are also here to ensure that your childeren are prepared for life outside of school. Before you even decide to bash ED you need to do your research on this agency and not on this dumb ass video taped by this ignorant ass non educated man using big words to try to make himself sound smart.
i dont get why i should have to pay for some random kids education. i mean come on! how is this going to make my life any better. it a complete waste of my money and it affects me in no way what so ever. Think of all the tax cuts we could get if there wasn't education. kids should have to pay for school themselves, not us hardworking adults!
Education should be administered on the state & local level only. Keep state money in the state. The Dept. of Education 2010 budget is $63.7 billion. How much of this actually makes its way back to the schools?
Most non-private universities and colleges are state-run ('state', as in, CA, NJ, etc). The federal Department of Education was formed in 1979, and since then has mainly been a middleman for redistributing funds and funding its own organizational structure (it has something like 25 sub-agencies). What I mean is that since education is administered on the state level, abolishing the federal Dept. of Education would mean less money for bureaucrats, and more money for schools & students.
Being accepted to Yale and Harvard means you'd have to have money and political rank. Law School is evil. No school is to deny a student based on their families income. That is evil corruption. America was built on Former Politicians and Supreme Court Justices asking an innocent state employee to accept their child for a small imbursement. No school is to accept a student based on their families rank (politician). Using your political power to put fear in State employees is evil.
@JerezJulio Education in America is getting destroyed by this department. They mandate schools to do stuff that is not always needed for a good education and than the mandates make it so schools can't afford it. When if you let local government they would teach always about how to get a job. And let a voucher system go to improve the public schools and give parents and students a choice to get something that meets there needs better.
@JerezJulio Well may I say you did a great job at actually defending the Department of Education rather than just calling me a crack head. This Department has done nothing besides make schools go bankrupt and focus on things that they wont need to know in life. If you have local government run it they can simple train them for the jobs open in there community. And if you don't like that and you want your kid to do something more you can afford under a voucher system to give him more.
The Department of Education is a useless institution; it's a criminal syndicate with no accountability and little to no oversight. I know this from personal experience. All they do is waste tax payer money. In fact, the whole student loan industry is a cancerous racket meant not to help kids go to school, but to make outrageous profits while putting everyone into debt.
Canada is more socalized then the US is, and yet in Canada we do not have a Department of Education at the federal level, so y does there need to be one in the states? It's a waste of 10's of billions of dollars a year.
Bomber alert. $630,000 until we hit $12,000,000 Lets all donate $5, $10, $20 today. Lets reach $12,000,000 on Friday, before the tea party, more free publicity SPREAD THE WORD.
the only subject or curriculum that the federal government MIGHT have authority in determining is US history and government classes. I only bring this up because I feel its important that there's a guarantee that all students in all the states learn the same history about founding fathers, the constitution, the civil war, etc etc
but other than that, let the Masters of Academia and the Parents determine what math and sciences are worthy of being taught in schools

the more money thrown at the dept of education, the more grades and standards go down. there really seems to be a direct connection.

what if we are taught lies?, should we all be taught those lies, should we allow such a monopoly on the truth?
charliehorse12345 3 years ago
Good point.
The state is necessarily propagandist. It is the last organization that should be given charge of history and government related education.
