@glgale92 Not even that, m8...it's all electronics & samples....and -- (c) rapping...UGH!
On a happier note, didja know that the producers of this were DENNIS COFFEY & MIKE THEODORE? (They collaborated on the guitar heavy funk jam 'SCORPIO')
Ha Ha ! I just broke into dancing to this great song with the great beat .......Can't tell you what the dance was called back then .....But I still have it in my old bones !! Thanks for posting !
Yes, he sounds a little like Neil. So what? Terry Stafford also sounded a little like Elvis. When I first heard this song, I figured the steel player was Sneaky Pete. Later on, I found out it was Paul Franklin's first recording. ( Paul played awhile with Dire Straits, but now he's the #1 session steel player in Nashville.)
I do not think Jim gold sounds like Neil Diamond's studio recordings. Gold's voice is softer, more mellow, a with a little touch of raspiness. Neil Diamond has a more deep, robust, full rich voice in his studio recordings, but Diamond is worse in his live performances where he may be slightly more similar to Jim gold in this song. This song is ok but its melody is a little weak compared to other light rock songs I like.
i can remember my sister and cousin playing the heck out of this song on a 45 record back when we were kid's. they were older then me by a few year's so sometimes they woul'nt let me in my sister's room so i would have to stand outside the door listing!!! they were mean to me lol !!!
Oh yes, I remember My aunt and uncle were so proud the day they came to stay for the weekend. we had a neighborhood party, playing all their songs into the evening..cozy memory
@TheASmyth Hey! Don't sell them short! They had more than one hit. They hit the top 40 with "I Believe In Music" which was not one they wrote (Mac Davis). They also made the Top 40 with "Big City Miss Ruth Ann(e)". I also believe they did a version of Buddy Holly's "Maybe Baby" but I'm not sure if if made it into the Top 40. I'd have to do some research to get more specific. Great little steel guitar solo. We must be the same age as I was 11 in '72 and am now a kiddish 49.
why do people keep giving the thumbs down to comments on here that say they think he sounds like Neil Diamond? It isn't a poor comment, so why give it a thumbs down? I love this song and I love Neil Diamond songs, and I think he sounds like Neil also. The first time I ever heard this song, I thought it was Neil. People need to save the negative votes for actual poor comments!
It's fun thinking back, I was a dating teenager when this song was released, brings back some awesome memories related to me and my friends........Thanks for the song. "Oh It's so nice to hear it again" lol.
i really injoy this song why doesnt anyone have video my cousin Danny was the drummer i still cant get him to play the drums he refuses i dont know why anyway he is in his 60s and man he looks great id say he looks 40 something thin a great looking still a cool guy for sure
I was hoping and praying that Vietnam was coming to a close about this time . 1972 to 1975 was insane for me . I joined the Air Force in 77 . Thank God Vietnam was over .
@bboice02 I was with the 101st 1970-1971 I wish you were right but Vietnam is NOT over for many... Even today but I'm glad that you were lucky enough to miss it. Peace................
I have daughters who are 25 and 14.They like this.I'm glad. But I still give them crap how their generations got ripped off music wise.Just trying to be a good dad.
I love this song! I remember from way back.. I would tag along with my cousin to her friend's house where they would listen to records. I had to sit and be quiet while they played records and talked about boys! Ah.. youth!
@dmiller60 They don't play this anymore. The on-air oldie stations are as bad as Top 40 stations, same playlist everyday. With all the music available, they should be able to go a week without repeats.
Jim Gold was the singer and wrote the song. He was a welder in MI. when after the success of the song quit the welding job and went with the band full time. I was lucky to see the band live in Green Bay WI in the 70s
Great and uplifting song. I was 3 when this came out. It's one of the first songs I can ever remember, along with "Burning Love", "Black and White", and others at that time. It's amazing how young someone can be and still know a hit song. I didn't know it like I do now, but I remember this one well. When I was young, I thought this was Neil Diamond, like a lot of people did.
I always thought this was a South African artist.Nevermind, will always remind me of Durban, RSA and Radio Port Natal. Wow!!!those were the days...I wish they'd never end!
I was also 12 or 13 when this came out, I heard it on the radio about a year ago and started thinking about junior high. I would have swore this was Neal Diamond all these years,
I was 12 years old when this 1972 hit came out. I played it over and over and over so much my mother took it away when I was at School one day, only found out years later. I've forgiven her since.
I believe it came out in 1972 when I was about 13 or 14 and it received heavy AM radio airplay for about a year or more. Gallery was the first cassette tape I ever owned and I pretty much played it into the ground. There wasn't a bad song on it. A few years later my brother borrowed it along with several other of my tapes and then failed to lock his car doors and thus they were all stolen. The tape I miss the most was Gallery. Luckily I was able to find both the 8-track and LP on Ebay.
I always thought this was Neil Diamond, and I couldn't ever find this on the internet cuz of that. I heard this on the radio how many times but I never found out it wasn't Neil Diamond!
