great singer ahead of his time. Understood what the common man was going through. Everybody has problems some people fame comes to quick and their not prepare to deal with it.
Heard this for the first time this week and thought what a great song. I trawled through the rest of the Williams stuff (dont know which is senior or junior) and it seemed to lack the interest and variety of this song apart from Low Down Blues. Does anyone know of any other good material by this family that doesnt sound dare I say too simplistic?
@JDibden Your listening to the wrong kind of music if your looking for something fancy and edited and filtered and fake. The whole point of this music is its simplicity and relatability. If you cant relate move along.
@OutdoorsMan1775 Hank jnr blew his fathers money...........on drugs. Hank 111 is amazing, the only thing he owns of his grandfather's is a leather neck tie..................so sad!!!!!! But Hank Williams is the king of country and always will be.....................I wish you and your family a beautiful christmas........................
@Reddirtgirl55Again Reading about Hank Sr.'s life is really sad. I believe that I have quite almost of his recordings and love to listen to them continnually. He used to put a lot of sentiment on his singing! I am from Brazil, a dentist, and it could seem strange but I work listening to this king of music all day long in my office. benedictowilsonporto@gmail.com
@Reddirtgirl55Again Thanks, but he also has his grandaddy's and his father's rifles. His grandaddy's is his service rifle and his dad's was his hunting rifle. His dad's guitar is in a muesum I know that.
Reminds me of my late grandparents, growing up on the rez they'd sing a couple of Hanks tunes at family gatherings, guitars everywhere, mandolins, banjo's, fiddles and the spoons! Ahh the good ole days. Love this tune!
Some music is immortal. I'm 30 and love Hank Sr. I wish I would not have been a closed minded idiot as a kid and listened to MUSIC that is good, instead of cool.
I grew up listening to Hank Sr., my mom had 45's and 78's. I said then that I didn't like 'that kind of music', but this is where I am now. Hank's music is great when you have a hurting heart...or any other time.
Such a unique style of singing. One gets the feeling that Hank was just toying around while singing this one.
Shouting out, moaning low, tinny nasal tweeting, muffly jaw dropping howling...He's just toying with the song. And in the meantime doing this stirring classic, creating a piece that has a sort of vocal fingerprint that nobody has ever been able to fully duplicate.
@43Copenhagen My friend, variations of this comment show up under almost every great song. Inevitably if the song remains accessible someone will eventually show up to dislike it. Be it because Hank slept with their sister or stole their guitar or whatever else. Why is it so important everyone like the song? You like the song; I like the song, just enjoy the song :-)
Wow great info in the video. Been meaning to look up a bit about his life but never quite got around to it... thanks, very interesting and well done, too!
all a lone i bare this shame, im a number not a name............wow ever thing he sang was from some where deep down in side r.i.p hank and we will see on the other side
Hank was born with a defective spinal column. Just to stand up caused him severe pain. He became addicted to morphine mixed with B-12 vitimin so he could function. He also had no ability to gain weight, as his body would not store fat. He gave all he had to give and then left us. R.I.P. Hariam King Williams (Hank)
@SHADOWMAN296 Thank you for setting the record straight. Anybody who suffers fro stenosis of the spine suffers unbelievable pain. Yet, the guy kept performing, satnding unp and delivering. He's my hero.
cheers from Croatia,i'm not a huge Country&western fan...i like Nirvana...but this video is an excellent piece of beauty and i see Country's influence to a modern music.....

I was the same way in school. I listened to all the older country music. I just borrowed casette tapes from my grandparents and parents and listened to them on the school bus. Many students had no idea who the singers were that I were listening to, because they were so used to the singers from the 90's. I think the traditional country music sounds better anyway, don't you agree?
@123bluegrassgirl i definitely agree, teenagers nowadays don't know what good music is. I'm probably one of the few teenagers around who still listens to Ol' Hank
Hank was born with Spinal Bifida which caused him severe nerve pain, thus he drank to relieve it. Today, modern surgery would be performed & his pain would have easily been stopped. Sadly, he had no access to such care back then. Spinal Bifida was common in babies of poor women, who had low vitamins during early pregnancy. Today, women are told to take Folic Acid to prevent this birth defect.
@Jibbie49 , Sorry But Your Wrong About His History, He Was My Grandmother's First Cousin, He Came To Her house A Number Of times. He Drank Because He Was A Alcoholic, It Ran In The Family...
Just to let you know the fans of Hank, I played this song to a son of a friend of mine, twice, and after the second time, his eyes swelled, and he understood, that just be good, get away from criminality, and help this country, the greatest country ever created, instead of being a criminal. Yeah, he is okay now, thank God. Yes, thanks to Hank as well.
