  • . I drive through it every day. The forest service is doing a better job at Stewardship and it shows. This guy is representing this as if the Giant Sequoias are being logged and that is UNTRUE it is pine & Cedar that is being cut, The Washington Tree, A Giant Sequoia was KILLED by a "prescribed burn" a few years back but he FAILS to Mention that HMMMM

  • Thanks for destroying a tree that's been there for more than 1,500 years and giving us fresh air.

  • You mean tell me they are still logging the gaint sequoias. I think this video is bs. The first part of the video looked like it was from the 60's. Look at the woman pic at 5:45. Come on! Go back to the North Pole, Santa!

  • It's just with everything else on this planet - it's all about FUCKING MONEY!!!

  • Thanx for the vid... although its kinda sad. Most people are like virus on this planet... So much destruction and polution just for profit.... we will destroy ourselves through our environment like this.....

  • MOST people??? Less than 1% run and own all these corporations that rape the planet and you blame MOST PEOPLE???

  • @gunthaarz Well I was talking about peoples approach to the nature in general. And if only 1per cent of people are responsible for this, why do the other 99 per cent do nothing about it?

  • @ramusling Because the 1% owns and control 99% of all resources, money, and control all means and levers of power, including and not limited to the entire legal system, the law enforcement agencies, the entire "security" apparatus, the press, the military and manipulate any and most all forms of public large NGO's as well as the education system and the "entertainment industry".

  • @ramusling i agree people ARE a virus...

  • That first part was Awesome !

  • We sipmly cannot and do not have the right to destroy that whats been there for centuries. How can we caal ourselves intelligent if we destroy that what takes centuries in the making, where's the RESPECT for life and the ancient !

  • Mark

You have done a great service in behalf of these the tallest and biggest trees on earth, I myself conduct talks in behalf of the ancient trees of Britain (Oak, Ash, Yew etc) to our wildlife organisations, so I understand your concerns and I also know how future generations will despise us if these wonderful trees are not protected for them to enjoy also.

God Bless you in your work.

    George

  • good riddens Georgie Porgie. don't the door hit you in the ass you stupid piece of shit

  • Arizona Highways just did a spread about Litton in the Nov 2008 issue. Apparentley he's the oldest of Grand Canyon's river runners, but I knew him first as an activist for saving Sequioa trees.

  • Sad, thank you for bringing this to our attention!

  • when i hear the sound my tears run out

  • Nice little airplane. Wonder what it is?

  • My parents just came back from a trip to the Sequoia parks, and the vicinity, and I am now in the middle of translating a book about the parks from English into Russian. Thank you for the video. It's such an interesting documentary.

  • i cant believe what Im seeing. I had no idea this was happening.

  • martin litton is my great uncle!

  • Cool! Martin is one of my heros. He's taken me flying in his Cessna 180 over the Sequoias.

  • awesome!

    he is my grandpa's brother!

if you ever see him again, ask him if he knows danny litton's daughter (me)

  • Ah, yes! Typical of the ecotheists to remove dissenting opinions! Thanks for removing my FACTUAL response, you coward!

  • I don't recall removing any factual response. Please repost. I encourage dissenting opinions.

  • @renevoss

Do you know how many are left?

  • We are importing timber at a low cost from Canada only because of the bark beetle that has killed millions of acres of trees that are currently being salvaged. If you see what climate change is doing to our forests you would be shocked.

  • Martin Litton should be ashamed and apologize for his comments on hazard trees. A biologist was killed in that same forest from a hazard tree and a firefighter from a hotshot crew in the park too. Diseased trees can fall anytime and they do not have to be dead, and those clearings are mostly fire scars not clear cuts.

  • which timber company do you work for?

  • Because the sierra club makes it so difficult to extract a renewable resource such as timber the United States imports wood from Japan, Russia and mainly Candada. In those areas the forests are being destroyed much more rapidly than in the U.S.

Wake up and see the indirect consequences of the Sierra Club. High timber costs = higher housing costs

Conservation is the key, not preservation of a crop that can be managed in a way to be grown renewably.

    Wake up.

  • It is critical that people contact their representatives in the US Senate and House of Representatives and continue pressure to help preserve our National Forests.

This video is a great example of what needs to be heard by ever representative to understand the bad policies that have been put in place by the current administration. These need to be reversed and preservation and protection must return to our National Forest system.

  • what year is this documentary from?

  • It was released in 2006. Some of the pictures are older, but the narrative and interviews are from the last two years. Some logging continues in the Monument, although 4 of 5 of the timber sales were recently stopped by Sierra Club, John Muir Project, and Sequoia Forest Keeper through an injunction in Federal Court.
