This play should be edited at least to make justice with the actors of the play that made this story famous. Director Howard Davies, actors Alan Rickman, Lindsay Duncan, Juliet Stevenson and the whole cast were playing this though story for 3 years but those Hollywood money-makers stole the money making a movie with the trending actors of that time. That was so unfair for all those British stage actors. Someone should recognize them their hard word doing this play.

It's ridiculous how Alan was turned down on the part of Valmont in the movie, so instead they gave it to Malkovich. I consider myself as one of the most unlucky persons on Earth as I haven't sen the play (I wasn't even borned then) but as I saw this short clip I was already drinking his every word that dropped from his lips and I couldn't miss any of his movements. Such a shame...John isn't even close enough..

I always thought Rickman would be perfect for the role of Valmont, I had no idea he actually played it. Here in Holland there was an excellent stage production of 'Liasons Dangereuses' last year. The actor who played Valmont (Gijs Scholten van Aschat) was also superb: altough the movie is one of my favourites, he was way better and much more charismatic than John Malkovich.

Thanks so much for the opportunity to at least see some excerpts. Too bad they wanted an actor better known at the time for the movie. But at least this performance got AR the role in "Die Hard", which made him a star. I saw AR in the play "Private Lives" in London, also with LD. Unforgettable.

You know, I have a sneaking suspicion that most if not all theatres record the plays that are put on there for their own records and also to show to theatre students/staff. I'm sure that the theatre where this was shown will have an official copy, should they wish to let us watch it. We should start a postal campaign!

Malkovich is brilliant, and I thought he did a fantastic job in the film, but Rickman owns it! He plays seductive and evil soooo well, it's ridiculous.

I agree! Young Alan Rickman was a master in seducing women on screen (I am just thinking about his character Slope in the Barchester Chronicles trying to seduce both Neroni and Eleanor) To me personally John Malkovich is as attractive as a carrot or a chair. I would run away. John also lacks the seducing voice of Alan.

Even though LLD received an Oscar I still regard it as one of the biggest casting failures in Hollywood, next to casting Costner as Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves maybe...

No, I think we have to do it with the few video uploads on You Tube about the play. Alan has been in hundreds of plays and we want to see them so badly. But it seems nearly impossible to get a copy of a play, mostly because in the late 70ies and early 80ies people weren't abale to take with them small recording devices which they can hide! :)

The official review for this said that it Rickman´s acting was amazing, that when people were leaving the theatre, "everybody wanted sex and most of the wanted it with Alan Rickman." Explains a lot. LOL
