  • "your son, husband or boyfriend can pick up a prostitute, then beat her to death with a baseball bat" Silly Man, i don't need a game to do that.

  • I came here for PCB!

  • Anyone know the song starting at 0:40

  • @Jethrotex I came here to ask that :')

  • Now if only there was a way to make a video game devoted to killing Glenn Beck. Now that would be something

  • My favourite game is to walk up to people who are engrossed in something and go "DON'T YOU?"

  • do they realize that alot of people play games? not just un educated outcast. lawyers, teachers, parents, doctors, even political officials play video games.

  • Nice bit of crystal castles in the background.

  • I love the way - using very proper English she says "First Person Shooter: A 3D weapon based combat game viewed from the protagonist's vantage point"

  • There was something evil about Doom.

  • 04:02 i bet he's a laugh to be around. lol

  • Comment removed

  • Yeh we can Glenn Beck.....just like I'm going to you if I ever meet you -.-

  • @Cpt50Caliber Is there a news studio in GTA where you can beat him over the head with a baseball bat?

  • @OmegaRFox

    If bloody only

  • It's pretty obvious why video games arnt on TV much. If you cant work out why then you need a bullet to the brain.

  • I like how he doesn't mention Super Mario Bros. 2 :) Not that the game even exists IMO.

  • Games probably make more money than cinema and television combined now.

  • Does anybody have any idea what the piano music at the start is?

  • "Suck it....No don't"

  • Cyberzone was unconvincing, clunky, tedious and baffling? I just hope Charlie has never played a BioWare game. :>

  • FAKE! There is no such thing as tv!

  • i like how when he mentions mario he completely skips out super mario 2/ doki doki panic

  • @lordfrikk it's the song 'Am180' by the band Grandaddy.

  • I hate to be "that guy", but anyone knows what's the intro melody from? (0:10-0:34)

  • That delgados remix made my week.

  • Anyone remember the guy that did the music for Monty on the Run ? Rob Hubbard. Genius.

  • I remember both Cyber Zone and Games Master lol!

  • Anyone know the name of the music starting at 3:38 ?

  • Argh. Charlie Brooker mocking Mark Kermode. My universe just started rupturing.

  • Hey I used to own both of those joystics from the very start of the vid!

  • granddaddy remix!

  • 7:23 Touhou Project :')

  • Lol fireworks that are being sick

  • I used to do exactly what Mr Beck describes to prostitutes on that game, great way to spend an evening.

  • I'd introduce my parents to videogames using this, but they're such neanderthals that they can't activate the language centers of their brains long enough to understand what words the people in this set are saying (I've tried). I'm willing to help you create and implement a set of closed-captions to rectify this.

  • I like how he only mentions SMB 1 & 3, I take it Charlie doesn't like the second one either.

  • 4:06 Hold down the shoot button just a while longer you silly child.

  • If you're motivated to kill a prostitute because of a game then you're just plain fucked up. The game can't be blamed for that.

  • Why does the guy say that "your son, husband or boyfriend can pick up a prostitute ......"Women are also capable of playing GTA. As far as I know, they also have aposable thumbs, adequate eyesight and a basic understanding of light and colour.

  • @MadSkeelz16 Because that would make for a worse story. :)

  • @MadSkeelz16 Because they're not the target audience, overwhelmingly dominant audience, and not the stereotypical video game audience.

  • @MadSkeelz16 Never met a woman then? lol

  • @MadSkeelz16 but generally not the inclination

  • @255ad

That might have been true 10 years ago.

Im 19 and I have been growing up playing Zelda and Mario on N64.

Most of my female friends have experienced video

games in one form or other.

My best friend loved the Pokemon games for the GameBoy and plays Animal Crossing and Sims ,admittedly rather casual, girlish games, but yet another friend plays Battlefield and GTA.

I enjoy most games from Point&Click to Action Adventures.

Id like to add that Im not a mannish woman either

  • @MadSkeelz16 because the guy's Glen Beck. And Glen Beck is an abhorrent scumbag shamefully employed by CNN, briefly, and then at his spiritual home for fellow white, willfully ignorant delusional alarmist bigoted purposefully divisive chickenhawk faux-cheerleader corporate talking heads: Fox News. I'm just saying man..

  • @MadSkeelz16 Because, that guy is Glen Beck. And that, good sir/mam... Glen Beck, is a fucking moron.

  • step 1. pick up prostitute

step 2. have sex with her

step 3. beat her to death with baseball bat, :D

  • @ItsaUFOduh Step 4. ???

    Step 5. Profit!

  • he ignored Mario Brothers 2 US. That game is far to under-rated.

  • Oh god I never thought I'd see Touhou on a Brooker program

  • Three Shredded Wheat !

200 internets to whoever remembers what that was for!

  • @cundionfire Portal 2 - 19th April 2011

    This Show - 30 Sep 2009

  • charlie brooker obviously has never played portal 2

  • @franinconverse That is the typical person who fails to see and genre of video game as any form of respectable entertainment medium; a bigoted prejudging idiot. I doubt he has played a video game in hus lufe, other than simply to nitpick at things to criticise.

  • OR YUR FUCKING DAUGHTER, SISTER, GIRLFRIEND, WIFE YOU SEXIST TWAT.

  • Electronic game simulator...

  • what a fucking sarcastic motherfucking piece of shit........ it's easy to comment on something you dont know a shit about.... but it's hard to talk some sense about it if you've never even gotten close to any of these games in real life. Im gonna find this guy murder him, and then.... well hes dead then idk what im gonna do.

  • what I don't get is, why do people argue so fervently on TV about how awful videogames are... and then invalidate their whole argument by saying "No, I've never played [insert the game in question]".

How can you be so sure that something you haven't tried is awful. My dad used to hate videogames. I persuaded him to try Minecraft, now he's converted his old work PC into a gaming rig! :D

  • 0:20 DO A BARREL ROLL!

  • Funny how people on TV denounce video games, a threatening entertainment medium to them, HMMMMMMMMMMM HMMMMMMMMM

  • good to know he doesnt care about the kid hiring a prostitute in a game, just killing her.

  • @badassmonkeyman Did you notice the blatant sexism as well? "Your son, or your husband, or your boyfriend or whoever"... Eh, girls play games too Glenn Beck. The guy is a total douche.

  • @badassmonkeyman I think he had a problem with the whole thing... but yeah, the killing part was probably the worst bit if you take some time out to think about it...

  • @badassmonkeyman He does say 'your son, your brother, your boyfriend or what ever..." That's right. he considers women as 'or what ever'. He's sexist *and* an ignorant twat.

  • Comment removed

  • @badassmonkeyman :P Then again, prostitutes aren't illegal to hire, so er...

  • @badassmonkeyman

Good to know you consider shooting a prostitute and hiring a prostitute to be the same level of offence.

  • I forst saw Brooker on 10 o'clock Live, then I saw the latest episode today when he mentioned he liked Portal 2, its so freaking awesome to see a public figure openly commenting about his liek for video games, instead of ridiculing them.

  • @aaron9099 Yeah I saw that too. I liked how when he said it the crowd looked really surprised and gave him a cheering round of applause just for mentioning it. Was mega cool to say it's a political comedy show. You could see so many dude's faces in the crowd look genuinely surprised in a happy way.. like "holy fuck, did Charlie Brooker just say he's playing Portal 2?"

  • I think the GTA killing prostitutes is definitely questionable; why anyone would want to do that in a game is beyond me.

  • @CalumnMcAulay Because it's fun.

  • @DoctorEmz so what you are telling me is that you find it fun to kill someone because its a virtual reality environment - ok I realise that people buy games that are based on war combat etc which involves mutilation killing etc but there is a subtle difference in games which are based explicitly on specifid scenarios - picking up a prostitute and then killing her is different than killing zombies or killing soldiers in a war game. In fact its totally different - I would say its sick myself!

  • @CalumnMcAulay Yep. It's not real,it's just a bunch of polygons. And how is killing a prostitute any different than killing a solider? They're both people. Or are you implying that just because the soldiers are "the enemy" that it isn't still murder?

  • @DoctorEmz Obviously both are murder but the situation is different - being in a war and fighting soldiers is a typical scenario familiar to many types of computer games. However randomly picking up hookers is I would say a rather new concept in computer gaming - Ok giving her some salami is one thing :-) but the killing part seems a little too torturous and perverse in my mind. I would rather give her a lollipop to suck on and tell her to be on her way rather than viciuosly beat her to death.

  • @CalumnMcAulay thats the whole point of GTA, you are a criminal, you do bad things. There is also the fact that whilst you are able to do this, you don't have to do this to complete the game. The choice is the players.

  • @CalumnMcAulay To get your money back?

  • Oh god what he said within the first minute is what i am a social outcast, that has no social life, no girl friend and scared of the outside and all i do is play video games and watch tv and films as im this way due to some dick heads from high school who bullied me for no reason and all of them live in a estate behind where i live so yeah the fear of getting attacked and everything.

  • @MegaSimonMC im a outcast who does nothing but go on the internet, play games and watch tv,and since october ive been doin all this wiv my girlfriend and alot more :P

  • @MegaSimonMC Pathetic. Grow a spine. Don't whine on the internet, spit in their faces every time they annoy you. Nobody has ever tried to bother me twice even if they destroy me in a fight purely because I always hit back twice as hard.

And learn to use capital 'I's when referring to yourself.

  • "Suck it! ...No don't!" HAAA. That guy was actually going to do it.

    Must. Obey. Brooker.

  • Typically great choices of background music. Don't suppose anyone knows the name of the piece that begins at 2:34 ?

  • In Frane a Wii is called "Yes"

  • Then you set about unrelentingly slaughtering members of the third Reich without a care for their families. What a Brookerism =)

  • The first 60 seconds of the video clip makes me never want to play video games again......I don't want to be a complete loser.

  • ... ... as the... nazis... would say I'M A TIT.

  • "suck it ... No don't!" Hhahaa

  • i bet at 1:12 the guys just wants to play gta4 now

  • ive managed to get prostitutes into my car and beat them with a baseball bat but never figured how to have sex wiv them. this is gta san andreas btw ... any hints??

  • I hate it when the media gets worked up about videogames being too violent or ruining kids. They keep forgetting it's all made up and computer generated, films are a lot worse if they are live action but they get praised for their special effects while games get shunned for it. Jo Frost's experiment with violent games on Parental Guideance was completely bull, watch the segment to see what i mean: /watch?v=ri8XZNZUlH8 , she didn't even test the kids before being exposed to the games! Idiot!

  • GAMES MASTER was THE SHOW to watch !!!!!

  • you can't hire a prostitute.. you can initiate a cloud of 1s and 0s to sit in a car with another group of 1s and 0s then make the first group hit the second group with a stick made of 1s and 0s

anyone who thinks games have an effect on people need to stop living in that biased bubble of terrified shit they live in.

Perfect example, Hitler didn't stay up til 4am playing manhunt. Nor did Stalin.

But one psycho idiot kid copies it and suddenly all games are bad.

    fucking idiots.

  • @Vault101Reject They seem to confuse "ideas" with "psychotic motivations". My little cousin once fast-roped down a cliff face, slowing at the bottom to creep down behind the blameless soldier in front of him before then pulling his head back and driving a combat knife through the flesh of his neck and into his jugular. In a game. That might give him a fantastic idea on how to murder someone silently, but it sure as fuck didn't provide him with any motivation to do so.

  • @Vault101Reject

Hitler DID listen to Wagner though, and Wagner makes me feel a little bit violent. Proof!

  • @Vault101Reject Saddam Hussein liked playing Risk apparently. And Jeremy Clarkson said GTA was a masterpiece.

  • LOL @ Mark Kermode

  • The late 80's-early 90's was probably the Golden Age of British computer gaming, with their virtual dominance of the mighty Amiga.

  • Comment removed

  • As the nazis would say (I'm a tit)

  • 1v1 Scrub

  • I was murdering prostitutes way before GTA came out.

  • Haha we watched this in media, best lesson we ever had

  • SUCK IT!!!!!!!! lol no dont

  • if you think thats an appauling use of computer hardware, you don't wan't to look at my hardrive lol/

  • This is British at its best!!

  • brooker kicks assiz !

  • Mark Kermode = knob

  • @birdman3120 How?

  • @guywholikesvids Well, to start with I am not a big fan of critics. Charlie Brooker is the only one, because he is funny as well. Critics make a living out of making other people's lives miserable. But I particularly don't like Mark Kermode because he thinks he is the dog's bollocks. He is so arogant and thinks that his opinion is the only one that matters. He is also a snob and don't get me started on his hair.

  • @birdman3120

You know, Kermode's a lot more humble than his initial "My opinion is right" gags let on. He often reflects a lot more uncertainty in his judgements than many other critics, mentioning when he needs to rewatch a film. This happened just recently where he said the disappointing American remake of a French jailbreak drama, may actually call into question his praise of the original. He also recently called Tron Legacy "oddly dull", admitting he couldn't quite figure out why that was.

  • @PurushaDesa Thanks, I'll have to reevaluate my view on him.

  • @birdman3120

If you think he's dick about films then fine, but one more point worth making is that IIRC the thing he hated when asked to review the Wii was that he was getting addicted to it. It was accessible to people like him that are usually uninterested in gaming, and he was a bit disturbed that after a while he wouldn't put it down. In his own curmudgeonly way, that is a positive review. (A side note is that he stood up for MW2, comparing the media outrage to the Video Nasties insanity.)

  • @PurushaDesa By the way, I like your statement on your channel. I agreed with every point, very refreshing.

  • @birdman3120

    Awesome stuff.

Anyway, not much of a gamer myself, but CES which was *fucking insane* this year, showed off like a tiny gaming laptop version of that legendary Optimus keyboard with the dynamic LED keys. So the keyboard basically customises itself to whatever the controls are of the game you're playing. It's called the Razer Switchblade - still a prototype but very cool.

    v=UiQ0AnlfBu4

  • @PurushaDesa Was that the event in Las Vegas?

  • @birdman3120

Yup. One of the few times I've actually found the soulless hellhole that is Las Vegas to be an attractive destination. Like Mark Kermode, the only films I can watch about Vegas are the ones like Casino or Leaving Las Vegas that describe lowlifes staring into the abyss. But the innovation at CES 2011 made it something of a real DisneyLand for once.

  • Electronic Games Simulator :-D

  • Screen/News/GamesWipe.

The most underrated and unappreciated T.V show.... of the fucking century.

Should be on BBC 1 on a regular basis, coming across it oddly on BBC not 2, 3 .... but 4.

Congrats BBC, you dun gon fucked up.

  • This Guy Really Likes Grandaddy!

  • "Christmas looks fun round your house..." Bahaha XD

  • "walking on the spot like you needed to take a piss"

You really needed to say that right as I took a sip of tea?

  • He makes Touhou look bad. Touhou is much more epic and harder than what he shows, because he shows one of the easiest parts of it. If he only showed Boundary of Life and Death, THAT would have been better.

  • @AgentOfTheBSoD He's only trying to show the bullet hell genre. If he just wanted to show people something insanely hard he could’ve gone to the Cave library instead: like a badly compressed video of Mushihime-sama’s last boss, resembling sick being sick. I’m surprised he picked touhou at all really; I assume someone in his production team plays it. Or, at least, frequently "listens" to the "music"

  • Castle Wolfenstein was better then the new Wolfenstein game D:

  • What does he have against bullet hell games? Touhou is awesome!

  • what they both don't know is that theres a part where you get to knock someone out with a dildo

  • Of course if you think that's an appalling use of computers you should look at my hard drive.

  • can anyone tell me what the peice of music is starting from 0.40 till 2.20? I think it might be a grandaddy track but can't find it anywhere.

  • Woohoo, Touhou

  • 8:24 Class!!

  • 0:51 he's not going to be able to go on about how much of loser he is now that he’s married to virtual sex symbol Konnie Huq

  • Mark Kermode doesn't watch TV and has only played video games once. No wonder he's so knowledgable about films.

  • Not bad at all; certainly liked the way he does this. The fact that Perfect Cherry Blossom was mentioned AND shown made me smile so much; those few seconds of Touhou did what CNN could not! :3

  • 3:37 what song is that?

  • @mefistogirl crystal castles - 1991

  • "Suck it. No, don't!" I love it when Charlie cracks up at other people's reactions to him!

  • Charlie brooker is a great reviewer. It's a shame he grew floppy hair and tried to host a comedy quiz show

  • i cant believe there are still ppl playin' GTA LOL

  • what happened gameswipe i only saw one episode and that was it,

  • I'm old enough to remember all these games.... you pussies! :) apart from the 1958 osilla-tennis thing...

  • @BrightBlackBanana then you wasted even more time posting this comment

  • 7:10

  • Whats the song at 3:38? Thanks!

  • I've been killing prostitutes for years and its never done me any harm. . . . .

So, whats this GTA then?? :)

  • I had Great Giana Sisters! Twas shit.

  • Why the hell was this first broadcast on the graveyard that is bbc 4?!?! It's hilarious!

  • @xblueblaze, @MuffinTreeinc, get back in the kitchen.

  • What's Touhou?

  • mark kermode was misquoted here.

  • What a liar I am.

  • Best. Video game documentary. Ever.

    Touhou mentioned sealed it.

  • oh my god, Touhou on Charlie Brooker. At least he did better than CNN.

  • 1:13

Hey! I'm a girl and I kill prostitutes on GTA too!

    Honestly, sexism or what?

  • @MuffinTreeinc,

exactly what I was thinking. Now I have one more reason to hate Glenn Beck! :D

  • @MuffinTreeinc my female friend here thinks you should be in the kitchen. :(

  • @MuffinTreeinc Too right, me also. women need love too

  • @MuffinTreeinc Too right, me also. women need love too lol

  • @MuffinTreeinc

Well then according to Glenn Beck, something is wrong with you. Apparently.

  • @MuffinTreeinc why?

  • @MuffinTreeinc IMA GURL PAY ATTENTIUN TO MEEEEEEHHHHHH!

  • charlie brooker is a legend simple.

  • charlie brooker is a genius i think he should do more gameswipe stuff

  • 1:18

    That is fun isn't it?!

  • When Wolf 3D kicks in, isn't that the music from Bladerunner?

  • yep vangelis, blade runner credits theme

  • This definitely needs to become a full series. Screenwipe has pretty much run its course - save for the occasional special if something major happens in TV Land - and while Newswipe is OK, it's not Charlie's main area of expertise and is already starting to become a teensy bit repetitive.

But there's been so little on TV regarding video games that he'd have a whole hatful of interesting topics to consider.
