I watched this video once and immediately subscribed. That was the BEST bass riff I have ever heard, and the recording quality was phenomenal.

you're right, it is a good tone ... good playin' too! I have to dig out my fretted ATK now ... you really can get an edgy tone with these beasts ... (if you're into that sort of think) I'm kind of old school I guess ... tend towards a more bass tone, but I dig that sound MAN ... :D

@darrenandsarah123 very nice instrument dudester :) ... I have an 81 USA jazz bass ... I haven't played it in ages ... I think I might dig it out and blow the dust off it. Yours has the plain maple fretboard ... that must give the edge to the tone too I think, my atk fretted with the plain board is edgier than all my other basses with the rosewood. anyhoo... keep rockin' it!!

@robbieb666 another great starter bass would be a yamaha rbx374 or 375, the 375 is the 5 string version, i got the 374 for £119 second hand and after a restring and having the neck and action set up it plays like a dream, sounds great too.

Last weekend one of the sales guys at the local music store let me try every effect I wanted for bass...and I could not find one I liked. Most of the pedals were EBS and very expensive, any suggestions would be great : ) I'm mainly into alt pop stuff.

@martyman5000 yeah, not many effects sound good with bass. like chorus and auto wah and all that stuff sounds pretty bad. I'd recommend getting some kind of processor with amp & cabinet models on it as well as EQ so you can really tweak your clean sound. I use the Korg pandora PX4D.

@darrenandsarah123 I have to disagree, it depends on the song and the genre. A chorus sounds great on bass if used in the right setting.

and @martyman500 I would suggest a Tech 21 Sansamp Bass Driver DI or Sansamp VT Bass. Those pedals can give you a variety of great tube amp emulation tones, from light overdrive to heavy distortion.

@falcon45ca thanks man. the strings are pretty fresh but the processor has alot to do with the tone. I like it but I have "button syndrome" now. I spend as much time messing with effects and EQ as I do actually playing. Need to find some sort of middle ground.
