  • darn,,not one of these guys are holding their junk and spitting out the "F"bomb

  • i love this <3!!

  • usafirr, Right! Right!Right! Those are the Diamonds, and this is the original. I'm 60, and I was there too (barely!), but I remember Little Darlin' and the Diamonds, right down to the freakin' head scarf schtick!

  • @Sheboggie1 You're both correct. Looking back at the music charts from the early 50s through to the mid-60s, there were two versions of many top 40 singles; one by a black artist, the other by a white one. For example, most of Pat Boone's and Ricky Nelson's hits were Fats Domino covers. "Little Darlin" was written by Maurice Williams (later with the Zodiacs who hit big with "Stay"). Looking into the r&b charts, it reached #11; pop charts #47. Racism was alive in the 50s.

  • I liked it when modern Hipsters were doing the Retro "thing" ( 10-15 yrs ago) as clueless as they may be, it worked really well for the time being.

  • One version of the song it sounds like they were banging on pots for musical accompaniment.

  • The lead singer to the left hasn't changed in 54 years people...incredible the others changed all these years...oh I wish this type of music were more prevelant today than the condescending/disgusting rap and most hip hop music today young ones listen to; no wonder why most minorities have criminal records and half of them STD's and ironically 1/2 white youth ape the disgusting rap chatter.

  • Ahhhh...nostalgia....good lord those were the days and THAT was music! THANK YOU for posting that!!!!!!

  • Kinescope was the way they save these images.

This was a big hit at my 8th grade graduation dance and for the first sock hops I went to in a new HS in a new town.

  • Fantastic rock and roll. One of the best!

  • yes i due recalled that time i was young then.but the music it still good

  • Do U Remember? I Do as a kid.

  • this music was way before my time but i love and respect this time in music and listen to it almost daily .r.ls.

  • that guy keeps walking but never gets anywhere.

  • Reply to CDTrans: That is the origional, and those are the Diamonds. I was there...65 now!

  • @usaflrr actually the original was done by the gladiolas but it was fashion to cover race music in those days.

  • I just love em......full stop.

  • Love it! Awesome song and it's so fun to watch them enjoying themselves singing and performing. Why can't artists do that today? What they were doing was not just a performance, but real entertainment. Thanks for the video!

  • thank you so much for posting this. And for the whiners, 20 lashes with a wet noodle.

  • Utterly brilliant! A seminal anthem of the 1950s!

  • come on now 2 kool

  • good music

  • correction.... the big beat movie was released in 1958

  • I beleave this clip was out of movie named the big beat ,released about 1961/2

  • This is so GREAT thanks so much for the post brings back lots of fun.

  • This song is where Showaddwaddy got their name from. Brilliant.

  • Have 3 albums of 50's songs and the Diamonds are on one of them - love the kidding around by one of the members!

  • @TheStamplover That would be Teddy! Ted Kowalski who recently passed away. R.I.P. TK

My grandpa passed away in Oct. 2004. R.I.P. Grandpa Bill

  • this is awesome, so enjoyable

  • 1990's was the best decide

  • Just Brilliant remember it well

  • I wish I could go back to the 50's

  • @MrDRL65

    Who says you cant?

  • my fave fifties track although im only 52

  • Got this on a 45 rpm hehehehhe

  • Dang...this was made during my birthday year...and now these guys are elderly or in their graves; god bless them. I enjoyed the music when I was a little boy when my older sister was playing the 45rpm record and I played it numerous times during the mid 1960's. Oh those were the days compared to condescending/disgusting rap and hip hop chatter they play today.

  • Little Darlin... I wore out the 45 RPM in 1957 and still love it!

  • FAB...U...LOUS 1

  • Great song

  • This is more then just a performance, this is a show. Very entertaining.

  • Bill Reed, the bass singer who lived in Port St. Lucie,Florida passed away a few years ago. Ted Kowalski recently passed away. Dave Somerville still keeps on going strong even though he is nearing 80 y.o. Dave still has the same voice range and a very firm hand shake.

  • @Djarnes Yes they were cute with Great Voices, and they had fun. Gives us a lift.

  • Great memories! Lovely stuff".

Look at the later version, just as good, if not better!

  • Brings back so many memories! Just great!

  • nobody doesn't seem to do songs like this anymore and this is cool

  • Where the hell is theeee original that we all LOVED ??????? I am guessing

there is no video from those days ...1957 .... but surely there is a better version

than this ....waaaaa waaaaaa waaaaa waaaaa

  • FatCDTrans : There were no official music videos back then. Most folks couldn't afford TV. All musical history was live and recorded in kinescope which unfortunate has a very short shelf life. Ever notice how crisp and clean I Love Lucy reruns are? Desi shot it all in 35mm. In answer to your tearful comment, there might be a better visual version and maybe even one that was lip synced. A studio made video? Not a chance in hell.

  • @CapCapello Now he doesn't have to look or listen to them. I still love the old music from when I WAS YOUNG!! And Johnny Contardo sings a lot of these & they are on UTUBE as well. Sha Na Na & Johnny as lead singer are still amazing. I have so many of these on Different CD's So I just download to mly computer & make CD's for my self & mp3's BUT seeing them again. God's gift. Thank YOU!!!

  • @CapCapello It doesn't matter how hard you try there is always the whingers that just have to make a negative comment. I am just grateful that people like you put these videos up so the rest of us can enjoy them. Thank you very much.

  • @pungooer That's why my finger remains diligent on the "delete comment" button. And you're welcome.

  • @pungooer Ditto that - stuff the moaners, most of them were not even around at the time. Glad I was and still am. The music is what has kept us alive all these years, no matter what who says.

  • @FatCDTrans The Diamonds were the original group if that helps. I'm old, I was there!

  • @FatCDTrans CapCapello is right: No music videos back then, not a chance in the Hot Place. It was enough for television to just be television in those days, so you could actually SEE the people who were singing for a change, instead of having to just listen to them on the radio or record player. There may be a better quality kinescope somewhere, but we're lucky to have this. Many 50's live TV shows are lost forever. U R SPOILT!!!

  • @FatCDTrans Actually, I thought the same thing until I watched some early footage and sure enough, the lead singer is in fact, Dave Somerville, the original lead singer. I still have problems with the second guy who wears the handkerchief on his head. But he must be one of the originals too. You have to remember that this recorded some 54 years ago! People change. Of course, I haven't - just everyone else!

  • lovin the falsetto

  • Classic, timeless, and from a group of good ol' Toronto boys! :)

  • deadly! cant stop watching this!!!

  • Yo mama lol!!

  • Comment removed

  • who the hell dislikes this video?

  • Ten years later (1967) was the "summer of love" [eyes rolling].

  • Awesome but I love the monkee one cuz Davy and Peter well they are both great I hell its better than what my generation listens to and Im 17 who owns a record player and has Shaboom on a 45 and theres lots more where they came from

  • Absolutely love this!

  • Great song, but I always thought that the Diamonds were a black group when i listened to this track in the car.

It seems that some white boys did have a soulful sound!

I'm going to track down other artists now to see what they looked like.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • My God, that's Hugh Laurie, the second from right! Look at his solo :)

  • Funny video...thanks for posting...

  • Dave Summerville the lead singer still can do it....and the rest of group sound great also...1949sorful

  • The stage antics are so cute! Is any of today's performances considered cute/'i doubt it. This was fantastic!

  • grate song!

  • wow!

  • Other than the "comedy" they were better than I recalled! Close to Gladiolas.

  • ---cha cha cha

  • What great days.

The first record I ever bought and it's taken 54 years to find out- that they were a white group.

  • @tinkerhoppy The DJ's played what they wanted back then and didn't have a top 40 list 'til later(with a program director who told them what to play). They didn't care what color the solo or group was and there were some interracial groups.Saw PBS special last night about this.Wonderful era to be a teenager.

  • thanks for posting

  • gawd i wish i could doo wap

  • Not very many groups can cover a record and make it better than the original, this is one of them. I like the original but this one is better.

  • This song sums up what I want to say to one special girl who I see every day at the gym, but we just go about our exercise and don't say anything haha.

Now I can play this song for her on the speakers to let her know what i'm thinking each time she's there.

  • Does anyone know where this footage is from?

  • @ctonelli - The Steve Allen Show, perhaps 1957

  • Cudne! :)

  • Hi Świetne nagranie,pozdrawiam:):):):)

  • @MrELVIS2 :

    Jesteś bardzo mile widziane

  • @CapCapello Okey, Thank you:):):) pozdrawiam (POLAND)

  • The greatest roll n roll song ever..the anthem of rock n roll

  • Listening to this I have a big smile on my face just as I did nearly sixty years ago when I listened to it. This song, reflects the fifties and the wonderful times we had.

  • Thanks for taking me back to the '50's!

  • "To hold in mine, your little hand"...it doesn't get sweeter or more innocent than that! Thanks so much for bringing it to us.

  • 0:22 look at the one on the right when he waves his hand in his face! hahaha!

  • FANTASTIC SONG

  • Bill Reed the bass singer is my grandfather! R.I.P. Grandpa Bill! We all miss you!

  • @Reedsox13 I remember hearing this in 1957. God bless your grandfather.

P.S.-Don't try to figure out my age, LOLOLOLOL.

  • @Juliaflo HAHA Thanks! I won't! I am 28 and my dad just turned 50 in April. :)

  • the first singer is hardly moving its so funny

  • Somebody is clicking his false teeth in the background!!

  • 12010-1957= 53 years.. Wow...

  • Klasyka. A jaka kultura muzyczna. Aż się łezka w oku kręci, że to już teraz nie jest "trendy".

  • Classic doowop. What more could one ask for? =)

  • LOVE IT!!!

    LOVE THE SONG!!!!

"LITTLE DARLING" has been my fave ever since i heard it about 25 years ago!!!!

And i still LOVE it :-)

    Thank you for sharing..

    Hugs from Indonesia ~

  • Swimming is to fish as singing is to The Diamonds. Absolutely flawless!

  • geez little darlin is on most 50's top 100 lists.

if you don't know it maybe you just don't care enough to have to know it or simply don't care.... in either case i'm not about to roll out the (magnificent as it may be) history of the diamonds or rock'n'roll in general

  • @rickitan89 :

It goes something like this: But honey I miss you and I'm feeling.....And I'd love to be with you, if only I could......

  • @rickitan89

I think I know the song. I'm singing it in my head trying to remember the words. I know the music. It says something like: And honey I miss you and I'm feeling..........I'd love to be with you, if only I could.

  • @rickitan89 actually ur pry thinking of that song by rickey nelson...it goes oh where oh where can my baby be?

  • RIP Ted Kowalski.

  • I love the seemngly effortless comic inflections here.

People piously discuss the blues as being the bedrock of the rock music explosion, and of course they'd have a point... but sheer irreverence is another factor thats crucially overlooked. Its not impossible to draw a straight line from this down to Iggy Pop because irreverence is dangerous, and thats what rock n'roll's supposed to be.

  • @rickitan89 Rick, it could be "last Kiss"

  • @rickitan89

"Tell Laura I love her " by Ray Peterson ,maybe is this , but the girl is losing her boyfriend in a car race.

    Ciao

  • Pure brilliant music. Much better than todays crap!!

  • Great Footage!! Thanks!

  • how about this classic the man had two groups. Dave Summerville.

  • Maravilloso, si fuera cantante actual este sería mi repertorio. Gracias

  • A spoof. Nice.

    Rich

  • I've been looking for this video for so long.........Thank you You Tube!!!!!!!

  • @rickitan89 i think ur talkin about LAST KISS by j frank wilson

  • I bought this record in 1957 when it first hit the charts and now have several original copies on Mercury. I can never get tired of hearing it and am so thankful that someone has posted original videos of the Diamonds. The Rocky Fellers do a very cute job of Little Darlin' as well, but this has been one of my all time favorites. Thanks you, thank you, thank you for posting this.

  • where oh where can my baby be by ricky nelson

  • @rickitan89 I dont kno if your still looking for the song but its called last kiss

  • this all about the 50´s

  • very beautiful

  • this is better than the original by THE GLADIOLAS

  • try last kiss...frank j wilson

  • Rickitan89 i think your after the song CAR CRASH by the Cadets 1957

  • tell laura I love her by dickey lee

  • I believe it was "Tell Laura I Love Her" by Dickey Lee

  • they´re the bests !!! La-la-la-la-la-laa :)

  • does anyone know the name of the song im guessing from around 1961,it sings about current events of the time like "the interest rate is up now mmmmm mmm mm"............."china has the bomb now mmmmmm mmm mmm"

  • Dave had/has a great voice. thank you for the vid

  • they're so funny :)

  • I know that it was a spoof. Dave in the balcony. I did dance with Arleen on BS. Dick was cool. Under the EL In Philly.

    Rich

  • This is very funny and their antics tend to support something I had read: that the song was supposed to be a parody of a style they didn't necessary like that much. But it was & is such a wonderful treatment that it became a classic of the genre. Thank you SO MUCH for posting! (My wife observed that they don't look like we expected but a band of Darren Stevens clones)!

  • @HeartoftheDragonColo - Do you remember where you read that? I'd like to read it too... thanks!

  • When America was Graet.

    circa 1955

  • canadian group nothing to do with america

  • Oh a trip down memory lane! Thanks for this vid!!! Great song and group.

  • So funny! Love this song...they truly don't make 'em like that anymore...

  • Classic at its BEST!

  • me encanta esta cancion

  • Fantastic, they sure don't makem like they used to!

  • I love it's video,i love it's music,i love it's group

  • What fun! All wearing suits,bow-ties and hair slicked back! And the antics! LA'LA'La'La! LOL!
