I used/abused this great Belgian gun (know it as FALO) for 1,5 year,
when i was serving in the Greek marines (20 years ago),
with 30 rounds magazines and better sights for the designated marksman/sniper/sharpshooter (not sure what's the English term for the Greek "free shooter") role.
Very reliable (not once jammed), accurate (at least for 750 meters), and multipurpose as battle, sniper, and light machine (original design purpose) rifle.
Quite old now (like me), but still lethal (not like me).
@ZombieSlayerMovies In the Greek marines it wasn't expected conscripts of 1,5 years service like me to be able for the role most people associate with the term "sniper".
I was:
Not really capable of accurate shots beyond 500 meters (after that it was mostly for suppression).
Barely trained in camouflage, stalking, and survival (only basic commando stuff).
Usually operated with my team (detached only in special occasions, mostly for reconnaissance and rarely for sabotage).
@perreterecon Hopping that you will not think that i am a Greek dickhead who praises his culture all the time (o.k, i am), i inform you that the Latin word 'falo' (English 'phallo','phallus','phallic') originates from the Greek 'φαλλο' which means the same (penis). In the case of this FN (known as FALO by me in the Greek marines) it is an acronym of the French (F)usil-(A)utomatique-(LO)urd meaning heavy automatic rifle, as opposed to the more common (F)usil-(A)utomatique-(L)eger (meaning light)
@SIRzabarakatranemia yes i kwon that, all the european languajes have a bit of the old latin and greek, i was saying a comon joke about the FN FAl and their variants
@perreterecon I understood that you were joking my friend, but other people may think that i was ridiculing it, since i refereed to it as FALO in the other comment (the one in the top comments for the moment).
I actually had problems find it on youtube since, as i understand now, it is most known as LAR.
There are even some people, lost in the translation, thinking that they are different guns (they are not).
Anyway, thanks for giving me the chance to clarify (and also praise my Greek culture) !
@atokombeled Thank you my friend for your nice comment - i believe that this gun deserved my effort for a nice comment, but also people like you (who appreciate nice comments) deserve ... nice comments !

@THEEConnorLange My friend, i have very little experience with guns. In the Greek marines i used the FN's STANDARD, PARA, and mostly FALO variants, and occasionally the G3 and M14 - because of the 5,56 caliber arguments, our M16's used only for NATO compatibility. Now, while FN's are available to them, Greek marines use M16's as their main rifle, but consider returning to 7,62, or even go to 6,8 !? (while the rest of the Greek army, still in 7,62, considers going to 5,56 !!!).
@SIRzabarakatranemia ah. ya, i dont udnersatnd why european change their weapons so often. over here, we used the M14, M16, 1911, M9, and MP5 since the guns came out. the last time we tried to switch was vietnam and haven't changed our weapons since.
@THEEConnorLange In Greece we follow the NATO big boys (USA !), BUT WITH A BIG DELAY AND INCONSISTENCY !
My knowledge about the rest Europeans is very limited (only met some from few other countries in NATO exercises) - i only know a few things more about the British royal marines (great soldiers !) because i trained with them for a very sort period (they used the SA80 but previously used the FN).
In the USA (i trained with your marines - great soldiers !) you are more wise.
@csmybuttt if you pass your time to make response like on such unimportant message as mine instead of ignore it, yes you are a loser in same way than me.
Look you're the only one to response! the others don't put thumbs up and get over it and, maybe, they think the same than you
@whitemen02 If you didn't want people to read what you have to say, why make the comment in the first place? It's kinda like making a billboard saying "please ignore this sign".
@csmybuttt well i didn't mean that i don't want them to read this. i express my opinion on the sound of this weapons. and if people agree to my comment they CAN thumbs up it's not an obligation, they just say they think the same. but if not
@SporadicallySane i was just joking around and was quoting a movie called pulp fiction. and what if i am racists fuckface- at least i don't take the lords name in vain u son of a whore-glad u got nothing better to do than talk shit to me-glad i mean so much to u lol
@wendyspwnsu The FAL was also designed by John Browning. Both are fantastic rifles but it's the final refinement to the BAR that can compare to the FAL-LAR, which is the Belgian's Model D BAR. It's got a clock-type rate reducer, self cleaning gas regulator, removable barrel and it breaks into 5 parts for easy cleaning and repair.
@tightnessallday Typically large state operated military forces such as the US Armed Forces or Israeli Defense Force are required to purchase small arms manufactured in their own country. This rifle was designed in Belgium and manufactured under contract in Israel. The FN-FAL has actually been contracted for production in other countries such as Brazil, Argentina and a number of others, but Israel probably had a prominent partnership in its production.
@ramlocaj what part of "israhell was just another user of the fn fal" don't you understand? your inbreeding ashkenazi family must be proud of a down syndromed jew like u
This particular example is an Israeli heavy-barrel. The wood and perforated sheet-metal handguards are classic Israeli. Semi-automatic rifles like this one are relatively common here in the USA, though a real fully-automatic one is many thousands of dollars right now. Tons of paperwork, too.
@Trion54 It could be an FN FAL with a heavy barrel from a Galil chambered for the 7.62x51mm, but you don't know for sure. Wooden shoulder stock, nope, sorry, the Galil wasn't meant to have a one piece wooden stock, it has a folding stock. Feet of the galil??? You do realize you can interchange the bipod platform between different guns. Doesn't make it a Galil bipod. Those actually aren't the standard Galil bipods anyway, so :|
@Nukefuzion I believe they are just demonstrating a FAL action, not a particular type, in most countries the F in FAL is replaced by an R, for rifle rather than Fusil, kinda like if the US had adopted this weapon back in the day, it wouldn't have been as FAL, it would probably have been Rifle, Light Automatic RLA, or LAR or something like that
@Nukefuzion i'd never said that the wooden stock and bipod is from the galil, only the heavy barrel. I just say it is a FN FAL with a bipod, the wooden shoulder stock (which is actually the first one used on the FN FAL, after it was changed to a lighter version) and maybe the Galil barrel^^
@Nukefuzion I'm fairly certain that's a heavy countour barreled Israeli FAL Variant. The Isralis fitted all of their FAL rifles with that same wooden furnature. I probably spelled Countour wrong also.
Difficult to control on full auto isn't knocking over a house, or anything close. Commercial .308 is almost identical to 7.62x51mm, you should go out and shoot some before you post about it...
@LieutenantIDan not even close to the same recoil system as a fullauto m14....and for that matter this has a much higher weight....if you dont know about weapons, please dont act like you do
@joakim151 Actually this heavy FAL is made by IMI. Argentina also designed a heavy barreled version of the FAL called the FM FAP (Fabricaciones Militares Fusil Automático Pesado; in english: Military Manufactures Heavy Automatic Rifle)
This is a weird wood, steel, and a plastic gun. A almost Bren. A wannabe WWII machine gun. It was surely unique as it is forgotten.

Looks like a hybrid between the FN Fal and the IMI Galil
joakim151 1 year ago
@joakim151 Actually this heavy FAL is made by IMI. Argentina also designed a heavy barreled version of the FAL called the FM FAP (Fabricaciones Militares Fusil Automático Pesado; in english: Military Manufactures Heavy Automatic Rifle)

SecuR0M 1 year ago
@SecuR0M No, it means Fusil Automatique Léger, which means Light Automatic Rifle in BELGIAN. Because it;s made by BELGIANS, in BELGIUM.
HnK416 1 year ago
