I have to say that the non-reverse technique is the most consistent (where one can almost always get a good whip motion near the end). Yet it feels that the explosion is restrained. If you watch Jurgen Schult's world record throw, he let out his big one on a reverse.
you're right. but even though Schult threw that far with the reverse, he still chose to throw non-reverse for the rest of his life and for that reason and because of Lars Riedel i will never reverse in my life.
I have been experimenting and switching back and forth with this technique and the common reversal technique (I must say it's very hard to lift the disc high on a good float, where the disc doesn't tip; reversing, however, sometimes prevents me from making a good whip at the end). It's hard for me to stick to one technique or the other.
depends on your body size and your preferences, basically everything after your throw has nothing to do with distance, its just about not fouling so maybe someone with larger upper body might not be able to stop when they reach max throwing speed, thus they spin to keep from falling forwards. conversely if a small person spins afterwards their lower body goes out of control and they may fall to the side or backwards. remember though, it also has to do with personal preference.
Lars Riedel is absoulutely amazing at the discus, he makes it look so easy! I remember watching him on TV when he won the World Championships at Edmonton in 2001. I still have the video of the Edmonton games.
Lars Riedel: one of the most charismatic thrower. he doesn't have the world record but not many athlete can have his carreer. I love him and I'm very sad to not see him throw...
