hmm.. i gotta agree. the R32 is and always will be the best golf. cant beat a 6cyl engine putting out that much power without the need for a turbocharger.

I have a R and can tell you for sure that the only thing better with the old R32 is ths sound!, The bulky engine and the weight of the R32 just can't compete with the *hrrm* lightweight R, sure if you hook the R32 up with a turbo, but even then, you still have all that weight which is fine if all you want to do is go to the strip.
If we're talking about a car like it is coming straight out of the factory, R is the undisputed winner!

Not only is the R32 heavy, its also unbalanced with over 60% of the weight in the front, adding a turbo will increase that number. That leads to understeer or making the nose swing around turns. The R32 only has a better sound than the Golf R. Put it this way, a MKV R32 is ONLY DSG. The R is ONLY 6 speed. Volkswagen finally got some sense knocked into them
@dividad1.... R u from the US? Here in Scandinavia we can choose between manual and DSG, and also on the previous MKV model. I live in the city and use the R as my daily driver and thanx to the DSG my temperament has cooled down a little in heavy traffic... :-)

Try the GR...i'ts normal that it's not like the R32 6V...but for a 4V...try to find as good as this one....

When Cruising the R32 is the one to have for the sound,I've had mk4/5 R32 and Passat R36,apart from sound the new Golf R is a better allrounder

@koryan , Well the newer 4cyl R has 20 more HP and has cut almost a second of the 0-60 time compared to the weaker, heavier R32.

Needs to sound more distinctive to a general engine sound, much like the R32 and WRX/STI do. Good engine, boring sound.
