Like a body dysmorphic, the transexual feels that there lie would be better and complete if only they didn't have their born sexual organs, much like a body dysmorphic feels that his/her life would be better without their arm, for instance. I have no problem with gay people. They should have all the rights of non-homosexual citizens, and I support them in that endevor fully.
It's not that I lack an understanding of "transgendered" individuals-on the contrary-it's not so much that my comprehension of these people is lacking, it's that my comprehension of biology is too complete to let an attempt at the establishment of a new societal norm circumvent that knowledge.

I think people need more education about what is considered a hate crime because even I'm not sure if this qualifies. I don't think he targeted her specifically because of her sexual orientation. I think he already hated homosexuals in general and probably treated women bad too. And when he found out Angie was male he flipped out and started hitting her.
