Stan: I am an American, in my 30s and PBS broadcast this locally in the early 90s. I really wish it was available on North American DVD. I would love to make an American, modern version of this, too. But it would get ruined, so never mind.
this reminds you of why alternative ( so called ) comedy came about - dire, awful, boring, cliched, the only people laughing are those on the laughter track...
Now-a-days, that is thought to creat lower back problems.
The modern version is one leg at a time, the other leg's foot resting flat on the floor, causing the knee to be slightly bent.
Therby placing stress to only one side of the lower back; and not causing any great trauma to the lower back; antagonistic muscles taking some of the strain.
I used to watch this show and laugh and cry with the storylines... then.. now 27 years older, I am watching it again, I have two teenage sons, and a husband, and find myself relating to this clever and superbly written bitter sweet sitcom loving it even more..clever clever Carla Lane..where are you??..can we have a Butterflies follow up series...PLEASE..I miss Ria..and Leonard..and even Ruby! lol ah those were the days.....
