After you make so many good points, I don't know why you suddenly turn to ad hominem arguments.

If foreign teachers organize, create their own standards, and police themselves, they can make their profession into a respectable profession, like law and medicine in Japan. They also need to petition to support teaching by foreigners as a long-term career in Japan.

I am not saying that 1 in 10 or even 1 in 100 Nova teachers sell drugs to students. But even one bad teacher is too many.

Sorry about the silly argument by the way. Someone who describes themselves as "DaKilla" isn't really mature enough to give a toss about. But as an ex-NOVA teacher I hate the depiction of us as being drug dealers to minors and spreaders of STDs. Its just not true (err....for the most part).

On top of that many NOVA teachers weren't good because they were young lads in their early 20s, and often not mature enough to care. But its the assinine generalising that gets to me. I knew (some)good teachers at NOVA and Berlitz. The training was a little more extensive than that of NOVA and a bit better, but teachers became competent through there own dedication and effort. You learn by doing, like anything else; unfortunately some just didn't care.

Shintaro needs to understand that there is no correlation between your place of graduation and your ability to teach English. Academic achievment is not proportional to your ability to do this, as in other areas of practical life. Its a very entrenched, ignorant and thoroughly indoctrinated way of thinking. But NOVA did employ quite a lot of teachers from "good" universities. However, thats missing the point, many NOVA teachers weren't good due to lack of support and training.

Nova requires "university" degrees? Cambridge, Harvard, and Tokyo are universities. But 90% of universities are just universities in name only with no real standard. Do you mean accredited universities? Accredited by whom? I can't trust those crackerjack degrees.

Nova, Aeon, and Geos employ the shit teachers.

Berlitz employs the better teachers. Also, if we consider Gaidai, they employ better teachers.

Shintaro, I worked in Japan for both NOVA and Berlitz and I can tell you there were good and bad teachers at both organisations. BTW I have a degree from Birmingham University (ranked higher than nearly all of the ones in Japan) and a teaching qualification. So stop generalising.
