  • That's a little bit sloppy, too fast but yer close. Keep working on it.

  • Hi,

Is is a Gretsch Renown Maple?

The bass drum sound is amazing... Good job ;)

  • this may sound weird but I think it sounds better slower. nice job man

  • Maybe...you wanna see the ORIGINATOR?

    youtube.com/watch?v=LyTV4tzRKpM&feature=related

  • Hey, that's NOT the Stroke! That's NOTt the Oakland Stroke! Hey! That's NOT the stroke...that's NOT the Oakland Stroke! Sorry!

    R South Philly

  • If it sounds bad ass don't funk with it. If you do it perfect your doing it just like thousands of other drummers. Make it your own. Trying to do everything proper is whats killing the new drummers. U can't be unique if your doing like everyone else. Make a point to not fall into that routine. Oh yea nice kit I played on crap when I was your age. Your lucky you will never have to put a cotex on the bass head. My how times have changed. Roll Tide

  • Man you sound great... but go back and listen to the song. Your accents are on the wrong count. But other than that you sound great man.

  • Sounds cool whatever it is. Just don't get caught up in playing patterns perfectly correct play what sounds good.

  • nice try, but this isn't the Oakland stroke.

/watch?v=LyTV4tzRKpM < that is. working on my own though ;]

  • Great shufle respect!!

  • those ghost notes are really a little loud but man this is still sick... this is probably the best beat ive heard in my life(and ive heard lots of beats believe me) and you nearly nailed it... but about those ghostnotes:we're not all garibaldis but by now youve probably got those ghostnotes down too

  • nice bro, im about to start some Garibaldi stuff myself!! sounds great!

  • Hey man, great groove....Im a drummer thing.....ghosts notes are right in the pocket, but even DG would tell you, and I know him personally, your ghosts are a bit too loud, you could tell you are concentrating on them, and ghosts notes should just be the tension release effect in your wrist, not purposely hitting them "softer".... dont know if you get what Im sayin..... just lay off them a bit, you'll see the groove will be even bettah!!!

THis is NOT hatin.... GREAT GROOVE.... just my advice!!!

  • @mugwaii2008

if you would think a bit further u could tell that the ghost notes are too "loud" only because of the way it was filmed, not the best cam. His ghost notes are really soooo quiet, i can tell hes my drumteacher. With a better recording and a backing track you couldn even tell just from hearing, that he was playing them.

    Cheers.

  • @ThePretender94 Sorry to disagree with you Pret.... but the ghosts ARE too loud, almost over taking the snare..... thats just not the way ghosts notes are meant to be played..... run the clip through a LED EQ, you'll see how loud they are.... like I said.... Im not hatin AT ALL ..... great groove, great drummer.....watch some Garibaldi carefully, you'll notice how much more subtle and softer the ghost notes are......try it out.....thanks for the reply!!!

  • @mugwaii2008 Agreed! Well put... I think another way of describing that "release" concept of ghosting is by thinking about playing the upward motion in Moeller technique. Steve Jordan is another guy that has stellar touch with his ghost notes, and his grooves are chalk full of them!

  • well you've spent few days on this I guess. Tough one. Bravo.

  • Oh! cool sound!!!

What's your drum set? it's sonor?

  • I like this!!! Ghosting is always tough and this makes good practice...

  • Good work dude, getting that up to speed is hard!

    Without sounding like a smart arse (because I can't even play it), the groove actually goes like this;

    HIHAT - x-xx-xx-xo-xo-xx-xx-xx-x

    SNARE - -sS--S---sS---ss--ss-s-ss-S--S--

    BASS - b--b--b----------------b--b--b--b

I worked it out a while ago, i'm fascinated by it - has to be the worlds hardest groove!

    Hope this helps.

  • Nice

  • Check out the transcription in Garibaldi's book, The Funky Beat, you are missing a few things, but what you're doing is great, you are close to nailing it.

  • thanks, i like it.

  • wow man! respect to you... love the song... love the drumset. Gretsch for life!

  • Wow! great beat! keep it up!

  • keeeeeeeppppp it up. sounds great.

  • Thats not the real stroke, you just got the basic,

the Hihat figure does not match, and the accents are completely not there.

These accents and the ghostnotes in between make the groove.

Listen to the original! Have a look on the notation of Garibaldi

  • Metronome time!! But you got the basics down.

  • this is a Gretsch Maple Renown get it right :D

  • wtf its my drum GIVE IT BACK :D

  • Dude you are making it happen! Just keep playing you have it bro! It can only get better.

  • Sounds like a pretty cool beat, but for the oakland stroke you should work on the right accents and internal dynamics of the beat and play it to a metronome.

  • yea baby!

  • Kool kiddo

  • Sick assed beat and soo much better off with that kit than ur other shit!! Great bass!!

  • one of the sickest grooved EVAH!

  • nice man......sick accents

  • wat drum set is taht. it looks like the gretsch renown set that i have

  • read the info on the right side of the page, it says right there it's a renown kit. fool.

  • niiiiiiiiiice set :D and beat and the bass sounds like straight fire!
