@TimothyADonaghue To me this is like asking for a version of Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" without the vocals . . . it just wouldn't make sense to me. This is one of the most brilliant pieces of music ever created, and in my opinion, an interpretation second only to the Dieskau/Moore interpretations of 1963--my favorite--and 1972. If I could have only seen them perform this live back then!

ich find das ende zu positiv, dabei find ich nach den noten sollte sich das gar nicht so gut anhören, am ende noch lauter und dann wär es für mich perfekt. das ende des lebens, warum sollte man gerade dann einen freund finden. eigentlich kam bei mir die 5 strophe wie in gedanken gesprochen an, aber in allen youtube-versionen, die ich bis jetzt gehört hab, ist das nicht der fall. diese kommt dem aber sehr ähnlich! mag es trotzdem!
Ich hab jetzt schon mehrere Interpretationen dieses Stückes gehört, und wie viele bereits vorher anmerkten halte ich die Version von Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau für die Beste. Es passt einfach alles zusammen!

Ogni volta che ascolto questo brano (e questa interpretazione ineguagliabile) rimango basito e attonito. Schubert ha scritto sotto dettatura di Dio! Non c'è altra spiegazione!
Fischer-Dieskau hat sich dem deutschen Lied stets mit großer Intelligenz und Intellekt genähert, und damit erst die Basis weiterer Auseinandersetzungen durch andere Interpreten geschaffen. Man kann Preys Volkstümlichkeit oder Wunderlichs Wohlklang vorziehen, an Fischer-Dieskaus Bedeutung insbesondere für Schubert kommt man nicht vorbei. Er offenbarte die inhaltliche Substanz dieser Werke in beispieloser Art. Diese Aufzeichnung mit A. Brendel ist auf DVD erhältlich.
