my family has a place on Lake of Ozarks way west, close to Warsaw around the 70 mile marker.....and i was hoping that I could plan a weekend to bring a few buddies up there and snag....so you're video is cool to see to say the least.. You mentioned March 15th, I guess thats season opener, nut it general pciks up in April if I'm following you correctly, do you think that it will be the same this year?...and how do I rig my pole to even do it? any list of supplies are GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!
To rig your pole we use 3 12/0 trebel hooks placed about 18 inches apart with either an 8 oz or 16 oz sinker depending on the depth of the area your fishing. We also use 80 lb test Power Pro line, the diamater is smaller and it make less noise when your jerking it through the water. Be sure and get a gaf and a pair of pliers will come in real handy, your may also want to get something to measure your fish. Hope this helps, Happy Fishing
We snag a lot different than most down on the James. Our rigs are 12' surf rods, big spinning reels spooled with 65# Power Pro, a 4oz bank sinker, and 2x10/0 trebles about 4' apart and 18" above the sinker.
We troll down the channel and beat the bank like bass fishing. You wouldn't believe how many fish we catch by throwing up on the bank, dragging hooks into the water, and jerking one time.
We snag mostly at night though so maybe that makes the fish move in shallow also.
luckey me. i live in the middle of jeff city and st louis. im from hannibal. (no i know im not luckey) have you guy ever fished down in the ozarks? if your have what kindve fish have ya caught?
We are from Owensville, MO. It's about 1.5 hours West of St. Louis and 1 hour East of Jefferson City. It's about a 3 hour drive down there to Cape Fair for us if I remember right.
My boat is a 1648 F&F with a 50 horse Yamaha jet and my buddies boat is a 1648 Legend with a 50 horse Johnson. Both boats are silver. Those are the two boats that we are usually in when snagging down there.
We do most of our snagging at night too. Later on we'll snag during the day when they are running good.
We make several trips down to snag paddlefish on the James River each year. 2008 exceptional to say the least for the month of April. Four of us boated seven opening night and we probably caught and released over 200 the last two weekends in April. All the fish were holed up way up river due to the high waters.
we stay in the Corp of Eng camp ground in Cape Fair, Old side, we like the primative side best, we tend to get a little routy and have a good time. Plus it puts us really close to the Marina.
maybe you shouldnt be so short to judge, if you would have watched the entire video you would have gotten to some really nice fish caught here in the Heart of Missouri. Sorry for your disappointment and wasted time. I will be watching for your videos to see how much better they are. Thank you for your input.
