It was Van Hellemond; worst call in any sport at any time. It cost Van Hellemond his career and reputation which has a huge black mark on it. Kovalev should have been suspended for the dive...but he is still diving today...This was a GREAT NORDIQUES team and would have won many Stanley Cups.Too bad they ran out of money and desire.

@Derek70388 right, but i doubt it. Montreal (I'm sure) would never trade the best goalie in the league to a division rival. Remember than Quebec and Montreal were old Adams (Northeast) Division rivals, and you dont want to give a rival like that a superstar. Once Quebec moved to Denver and the Western Conference, it was ok to pull off. It's like if Pittsburgh ever traded Crosby, you can bet that Philadelphia or New Jersey would never get him.

btw, one of the worst trades in NHL history.

Excuses excuses...They were the top seed and lost to an 8th seed. I watched every Rangers game that season and they were not that good. Yes the Sakic non-call helped but the Nords should have won this series in 4 or 5....They were destroyed in Game 2 at home, and that set the tone for the series.

I remember this serie....the goal of Joe Sakic was good it was the worst decision from a referee in all sports history ! KOvalev just fake the injury like he does 2 years ago in Montreal! Nordiques was a kick ass team those years ! What an offensive team ! We really miss nhl in Quebec..just bring us the Trashers or any other team that no one cares about !!

faking or not it was still a slash and kovalev would have still had control of the puck if he didnt go down. Maybe call the dive on Kovalev but call the slash too.

Yeah but there was no reason to refuse the goal ! The ref wistle after the goal,, when a man is down you're team is suppose to touch the puck to stop the play...that's not what happen that night
